In addition to having a profound knowledge on the subject of Sherlock Holmes, Mark Gatiss – Sherlock co-creator and the series’ very own Mycroft Holmes – is also an authoritative connoisseur on the horror genre.

That was followed in 2012 by Horror Europa, which takes a tour of some of the horror films of Western Europe over the last hundred years, examining the changing influences that defined the genre throughout the continent.

Speaking in 2011 at the Barbican Centre’s Screentalk, he confessed that his introduction to horror films was as early as four or five years old, thanks to what he jokingly described as ‘lax parenting, with a viewing of Hammer’s Brides of Dracula starring Peter Cushing.
