:-D You know, if I had seen this, I would have thought, oh no, they goofed, the actor forgot to take off his wedding ring for the scene...

But the ones who want there to be a conspiracy wouldn't.

Some people think Molly's wearing a ring, but I can't find a screencap to confirm or deny it. But I can see the uproar now ... Sherlock's an adulterer! :d

And then there are scenes like this that need no maniping. John's expression, the tongue, it does look like a come on. Sherlock certainly seems to think so.

I guess my mind simply doesn't work that way. In John's face I see an ordinary effort to look friendly and unassuming while getting to know a stranger. In Sherlock's face I see an extraordinary determination to show no emotion at all. How people get "eye sex" out of this is beyond me. But then why people would believe there's such a thing as "eye sex" in the first place is beyond me. I lack imagination in that area, apparently.

Martin licks his lips a lot, and not just when he's playing John. It's one of his twitches, like Ben's tendency to rub his leg when he's being interviewed.

Sorry, I think I'm being grumpy. But I just found something that cheers me considerably, if I can just figure out where to put it, heh heh heh ....

Well, there you go. It's not a "specific" look, it can mean a variety of things to a variety of people. It's not "proof" of anything.

I definitely think it looks like a come on, though I don't believe it actually is. If he was looking at me like that I'd think he was flirting (and likely run a mile).

A four years old contribution of Ian, found by accident (really!)

Ian Hallard
23rd Apr 2013 from TwitLonger

@Veruska_S @CHIMPSINSOCKS Yes, I find I learn more and more about the subculture as time goes on! To be fair, I didn't say anyone’s fantasies were wrong. People are very welcome to fantasise about whatever they like. No one is judging that - well not me anyway. I was querying the extent to which that fantasy, for some at least, seems to have developed into a belief, or in certain cases insistent demands, that it should become reality and appear in the show itself.
“Sherlock” itself plays with the idea that society is so unused to any kind of male friendship or intimacy that those around Sherlock and John often assume their relationship can only be motivated by sexual attraction. As Amanda says, why can’t their love for each other be friendship? Why impose a gay dynamic on two characters who, as clearly as we can tell, identify respectively as heterosexual and asexual?
Personally speaking, I’d love to see more well-rounded gay characters and well-written gay relationships depicted in drama, but that’s another story – and not this one, I’m afraid.
As you say, it's an interesting phenomenon.

And yet, I've read it before, somewhere. Where? No idea. Didn't remember it was from Ian, though.

Ah I see. He also played the judge in TRF I believe?

You've got the right scene in the right episode, but he played Moriarty's attorney, not the judge.

I couldn't remember what he looked like in the scene, googled Moriarty attorney, and there seem to be a disturbing number of attorneys called Moriarty, including James R Moriarty as the top hit.
