The Sounds of Sherlock

Some great versions there Sheerluck. Cedrick Hardwick of course was Edward Hardwick’s father. I’ve got his one performance of Holmes and it’s not bad. Gielgud and Richardson are worth hearing too but they only did around 12 if memory serves. They were all faithful to The Canon though. Gielgud has been criticised though for being a bit too ‘Shakespearean.’ I liked them though.

For years Hobbs and Shelly were probably the finest pairing until the Morrison/Williams partnership (then with Andrew Sachs taking over as Watson when Michael Williams died.) Morrison and Williams recorded the entire Canon and for me and others it’s simply the best ever (like Brett on tv.) They are all worth a listen. You don’t even have to buy them as they are on YouTube (as are many other radio Holmes’)

Apart from the BBC we also have Rathbone and Bruce on radio too. Tom Conway and John Stanley were also both good as Holmes.

Have a listen when you’ve a few minutes spare👍
