  1. Okay, I had to google The Wave, folie a deux and fairy rings. Whatever elf forest or not you guys are in, it's definitely elf language. Yah, I enjoy fireworks once in a while, back then there was time when we would stand by early in the night with tripod and all in free (but crowded, obviously) public area to catch the show and got the video. However, I realized that I had been wasting too many nice things by watching them only from my viewfinder, and the videos or images of fireworks don't really represent what you see, so since then I would just enjoy it. Something I would like to do in America on 4th of July; apparently there are volunteer works to help calming down dogs in shelter. I think it's nice.

  2. I would agree but only to certain extent, because somehow imho, it seems like parties are mostly used to... show off? Maybe I had seen/heard too many of those. For example, I really couldn't stand the story of distant relatives who spent a lot, I mean a lot of money for their weddings, while they were both unemployed/just start working, relying on their parents, who supported it, because it's their 'reputation'. And an ex-colleague of mine who was let go unfairly, all he stressed about was providing a lavish wedding for his son/daughter, which, being a good friend that I was, told him honestly that it is a very crappy reason and if his kid want expensive wedding, he/she should work for it. Because I couldn't stand seeing how sad he was, saving every penny, leading a very humble and hard life, had health problems while the kid didn't seem to understand what he went through. (well I know because he told me). And I winced at kid's birthday parties on the age when, technically, they still understand nothing. Of course it's not my business, just the ones that I know are normally forced by the parent who is not the bread winner, in a household with plethora of expenses and high living cost country. Parties are expensive, and at the end of the day, after screaming and crying children, messy 'party', all you see is a very very tired and stressed Dad, wasteful stuffs and you-need-a-lifetime-to-play-with-them toys. I only attended once, once, but my youngest brother is destined to do that forever. I feel for him but there is no way I would go through that again. And I'd be honest, outside the couple, probably their parents, who really give a fish about a baby's gender actually? Who cares? I'm going to grow old friendless is it??? Grumpy and witchy?? What gives? Yes! That. Used to have travelling buddies where we played Scrabble etc until we forgot to sleep. Two of them visited me last month, it was fun but it won't be easy to get together.. but wait, three of them are working together now. (two of us left the company but one just came back) so it'd be on me to complete the four.

  4. So, at no small risk to myself and others, I've done an exhaustive study of my own (also known as visiting the public restroom where I work) to ascertain whether or not Mr. James's assertions do, in fact, hold water. (So to speak. ) First of all, the toilet paper dispenser was installed sideways, meaning you were just as likely (or unlikely) to brush your fingers against the wall when reaching for it, no matter which way the toilet paper was draped. And second of all, maybe it's different for guys, but at no time did my hands stray near anything, BEFORE I touched the toilet paper, which might be considered bacteria laden. Nor did they stray again to the toilet paper roll AFTER venturing into regions that might be considered bacteria laden. Hence, no bacterial transfer could have taken place. Ergo, I must conclude that Geoffrey James is full of hooey, and his "scientific theory" is hereby debunked. QED. You're welcome.

  5. I never went to my prom. I couldn't have even if I wanted to, but I didn't want to. It always sounded so boring. People older than me told me I'd regret not going, but I never have. I think gender reveal parties are a relatively new phenomenon. Some parties used to be common but seem to have gone out of fashion. I can't remember the last time I heard of someone having a Sweet 16, for instance. I don't enjoy parties, but I'm not against them. Generally speaking I think they're good things. Milestones should be celebrated. We have little enough to celebrate in life as it is.

  6. Yeah, that one might be okay. I really don't understand their sudden need to turn all these films into live action, though. Disney's always been at its best when doing animation, why spoil it? Ah well......

  7. I used to wonder why parents took babies to movies, especially loud action movies, where the baby would inevitably start crying. Then I spoke to one young mother, who said she was just desperate to do something besides stay home and take care of the kid … and either couldn't afford or couldn't find a babysitter. And she wanted to see a movie SHE would enjoy, because the kid wasn't going to care either way. It still annoys me when a baby starts crying in a theater, but it's now tempered with a little sympathy for the parent. Although it seems to happen less than it used to … maybe they're more willing to wait until the video comes out, these days.

  8. Kids no older than 2 don't pay *anything* at Disney, as a rule - neither food, nor tickets, nor lodging, assuming the family's staying at a Disney hotel. Also, there's this thing called Baby Swap (bit long to explain but basically, saves on queueing time). So those parents probably enjoy Disney just fine (not that there's anything wrong by having fun at WDW as an adult ), with no extra cost for the little one, and the kid's just their excuse for going because they don't want to admit that the trip is really for them.

  9. Actually it's a mix, it's a bit hard to pinpoint the actual line. FULL SPOILER AHEAD (I still think you are nuts that you don't mind spoiler Artemis, but if you insist ) These are last the story lines of the book, feel free to correct me, it's been a while ...EIGHT YEARS MARTIN! Geez! Anything happen after these are not in the book yet, but there are some notes (more on that later) Tyrion Lannister has not met with Daenerys yet, he was captured by Jorah but they are both captured by slaver. With Tyrion's wits, they managed to escape and I believe they are about to join sell-sword company in attempt to go to Daenerys. Jamie Lannister has settled the capture the Riverrun, taking control from inept Frey like in TV, and taking control of other house without violence (he is proven to be good in war strategy as well), but then he leaves after he is approached by Brianne. It is unclear, but implied that Brianne is under the order of Lady Stoneheart to capture Jamie. My Unsolicited Opinion (MUO): He is in deep shit. Cersei Lannister finished her walk of shame and is waiting for trial for regicide and incest, she is keeping her head down, as told from POV of Kevan Lannister, her uncle who took over the ruling. Sansa Stark is still with Littlefinger, I think in the Eyrie or leaving to meet heir of the Vale. In the book, Ramsay Bolton is already married with Sansa's friend (which they claim as Arya). Arya Stark still in training, Bran still in the cave. Jon Snow has just been stabbed and dying on the snow. Daenerys has just rode Drogon from the fighting pit, and lost in unknown area. Samwell Tarly is in journey to the Citadel. Varys. He has just assassinated Kevan Lannister and Grand Master Pycelle. Barristan Selmy is still alive in the book, and orchestrating a coup after Daenerys disappears. That is the latest from the book, anything beyond that from the show creator, however some main some events are certainly based on bulletpoints from Martin, some they executes well; Cersei burning the Sept, Hodor moment, Hardhome, Battle of the bastards but many of others, as you probably know, are blotched badly, in my personal opinion, some of season 5, definitely season 7 & 8. There are events in the shows that are not based on the book, eventhough it happened earlier than season 6. The two big ones are Jamie and Bronn in Dorne storyline and another one, that actually made book readers jumped, happened in season 4 when they showed Night King taking Craster baby and turned it, including the Night King lair. That scene is not in the book whatsoever. Hope that answers you question.

  10. A "Mulan" trailer came out today. It actually looks not bad so far. I hope it is not bad, because "Mulan" is one of my favorites, lol.

  11. I was busy going around annoying other people so that I could collect fresh produces they throw at me. You know, I need more things in salad other than tomatoes. I think I have only ever tasted tomatoes in refrigerator. They are there in supermarket, and go right inside my fridge at home. Me too. I actually mostly used them to make tomatoes soup, but I do like cherry tomatoes uncooked. And same here, weekly grocery buyers, and I keep stuffs in plastic to make it last longer. I can't get rid of my need for plastic eventhough I try to reduce and always reuse them. GAH.. topic! Okay, in season 3, I think the underrated scenes involving Sherlock and John are the ones where Sherlock is really really sad of losing John. The ones comes to mind was when he was playing the violin for them and leaving the party, and the way he looks at John when he was about to shoot Magnussen for him. I always try to pretend that T6T is not what it is because I always interpret those scenes in season 3 with deeper sense of meanings.

  12. Yah, I learn not to worry too much otherwise it would drive me insane, but I wouldn't go to public toilet unless I absolutely have to. And I actually know which public toilets are 'acceptable' when I visited a place. There is a place where I bought most of my groceries and I had never visited their toilet once in 6.5 years I'm here. No way. And my prediction is correct, because I asked those who tried (my family). Back then, I shared story before about my experience with cleaning company where I actually re-cleaned after they left, and found my mom is doing the same thing. That's why, even with danger of A.I taking over us, I do want cleaner robot, who could fulfil my self-proclaim ocd to finally have a literally spotless house all the time, because it's impossible. I'd even risk robot uprising!

  13. Right. Plus she's not just a neighbor, apparently she's also a friend of Mary's (so was she at the wedding? don't recall). At least in the original ACD story, she's a friend of Mary's, so she knows that Mary's husband is, as you say, a famous sidekick. Hey, if I were her, I'd have done the same thing. Maybe not a six in the morning, though.

  14. James is the guy who claims restroom walls are coated with excrement? Yeah, I thought he was being a bit overly cautious. He may be right in a very technical sense, but if you worry about stuff like that, you'll never actually get anything done, because you'll be too busy scrubbing everything with Lysol.

  15. The final season airs in the UK in about a week, and then on PBS this fall. I binged the whole thing a few weeks ago. I had tried it out when season 1 first aired, but found it boring. I guess my mood was just right this time. My experience was opposite to yours: I thought it got more interesting as it went along (with the exception of season 4). I never read the books, so no disappointment for me there, lol.

  16. Unfortunately, no, that's not how Moftiss did it, though they came closer in the first series. Admittedly, though, it's easier with Good Omens because the two guys in question aren't even guys, strictly speaking, and therefore the question of whether they even have any sexuality as commonly understood is open to interpretation. But that's exactly the point, that "open to interpretation" bit. Nobody in Good Omens, say, ever indignantly states that they're not gay, or gay for that matter. They are clearly shown to care a lot for each other, and just what that means is left for the viewer to decide.

  17. True, but it seemed that his patients all had fairly boring problems, whereas John was presumably accustomed (in Afghanistan) to saving lives on a daily basis. (According to wellingtongoose's blog, the caseload of an actual British army GP in Afghanistan at that time would likely have been just as mundane, but Moftiss seem to have borrowed a good bit from ACD's Watson's experience a field surgeon.) It's no wonder that John's CV (as glimpsed in Blind Banker) mentions his interest in learning some specialties.

  18. We don't get fairy rings here, but we do up in Maine! (See me pathetically trying to be part of the group? 😛 ) I had an interesting 4th … I've been working a temp job about an hour and a half south of here, and driving home on the freeway last night, there were fireworks every 10 miles or so. Some of them seemed to be right above the freeway, it was neat! Long drive in the dark actually seemed much shorter. I was worried either 1. people would be running into each other trying to gawk at the pretty lights, and/or 2. traffic would be heavier than usual because it was a holiday. But it was actually one of the easiest trips back I've made. The job is outdoors, and it's been extremely hot and humid the past week (I'm sure you folks in Europe can empathize!) so here's my mood:

  19. But it's also the title of Oliver Stone's Born on the 4th of July about Ron Kovic, who also was born on this day. A grim movie but I think it was Tom Cruise's best performance.

  20. What are your takes regarding invasive species culling? Saw news that Florida residents are urged to kill green iguana, back then I knew divers were told to kill lionfish (if I remember correctly, Carribean?) because there are too many of these. And what are your takes about over population culling, example like secret culling of koala in Australia. I know, I know, there are 'reasons'. Some are reasonably justified, kill to save. But it's quite heartbreaking for me, and based on those reasons, isn't human need to be culled as well?

  21. I remember when I was a kid I had a T-shirt with words 'Born on the fourth of July' and had no idea what it was supposed to mean, and thought it was just those birthday T-shirt. Then when I was older I knew there was a movie with the same title and yet I STILL didn't know what was the significance (didn't watch the movie). Couple of days ago I read the news about Trump's plan for military parade on fourth of July and it still took me a while to click. @parties. Ah yes, I have similar thought of asking Americans, since we from outside see these all the times in movies and shows. Why there are engagement party, gender reveal party, baby shower, and now graduation party too... so many parties. And I'm also amazed by prom pictures where students dress up as if they attend the Oscar. Limos, extravagant gowns and suits, aren't they high schoolers, how do they afford that and what is it to celebrate? I'm soooo glad my school didn't have prom culture, that would be annoying and source of problem with popularity thingy. I think there were only Christmas parties in my school back then and some Halloween parties that I didn't bother to attend except once or twice.

  22. According to a (forgotten from where) source, five common nightmares are: falling, being chased, feeling trapped, being late, and suffering the death of close family member. I want to add the need for toilet but clean ones are exposed/doorless and the one with privacy are dirty. Geez, I don't mind if one day we find a way to eliminate the need of sleep all together, and the need to eat. I find those two as incredible waste of time. But then I start to think about alternate world where we don't need to sleep and eat, and come to conclusion that we may not need to work as well since the need for housing and food are the main things we try to fulfil. And because of that, people would have too much free time to do other things; crime, making babies, over population taking over nature, socializing.... GAH! Bring back eating and sleeping!!

  23. One piece of forgotten information that is probably related to Sherlock Holmes (not). Robert Downey Jr (well he played Sherlock ) bought the right of black mirror episode (The Entire History of You, not my favorite, but apparently favorite of many) with a plan to turn it into a movie. Not sure how the development though.

  27. Consider that I live in city, not elf forest, my garden is just 7x5 meter, but the constant need of trimming (for those big thorny branches, sweeping, weeding), is annoying. The rest I do enjoy, I only wish I have Thanos's back, literal back because I need new spine! Oh yah, to prove that I'm unbearable, on my fast track to be grumpy person, here are things that annoy me from one trip to fast food chain: - They only open one register so there was a significant queuing time, the reason I was there was to have a quick meal. It's called fast food for a reason! - The cashiers are forced to up-sell sets, and merchandizes (that has nothing to do with food) and that take big amount of time for each transactions. - The menu they are famous with are not available. This is not a one time thing. - The wash basins are dirty and scattered with food crumbs, consider that you would eventually use hand for fries, burger or chicken, and it's absolutely necessary to wash hands, this is disgusting. - The put hashbrown/scrambled eggs or other things in paper sleeve/pocket, when it was still hot. Therefore they became hard and stuck to the paper, making it unappetising and you are losing half of them to the sticky paper.
