  1. What did you do to that poor man, Dabbler?

    Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Sometimes remakes work in their own way, though. The Addams Family movies, for instance.
  3. Sorry, I've edited my post. Sometimes I'm lazy and hotlink (to sites that allow such, like imgur) and the picture gets taken down later. Have some bonus cats in boxes:
  4. Since Carol said I was free to make one, here goes . So here's that cute Puppy Love Superbowl commercial again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQB7QRyF4p4 Feel free to fill this thread with all kinds of animal adorableness - your own pets are, of course, the most adorable of them all .
  5. Yeah, I think I once read that they do it because of heat retention. Apparently it's a pretty universal cat trait, too:

What song is stuck in your head?

As you wish ... Admittedly, now *this* is in your head, but the other song's gone, at least.
  7. Some people only feel better about their insignificant and boring lives if they can denigrate someone else's. I don't have kids, but being overweight means that I get plenty of choice comments about that instead. My go-to response by now is something along the lines of, "Okay, but I can lose weight and what are you going to do about your personality?" I've long since given up trying to play nice with someone who goes out of their way to be rude for no reason.

    The "Hijacked Thread" Thread

Since the Political Thread is currently busy discussing Martin Freeman's haircut (and far be it from me to interfere with that ) I'm hijacking this thread. Considering all that's going on right now, he might have a point there.

    Quirky and Funny Videos

Contact juggling is awesome (yes, I saw Labyrinth as a teen, why? ).
  10. My husband and I moved in together and soon married, while having met each other physically only twice (long distance relationship over the early internet) and, well, twenty years later we're still there.
  11. This just might be my new favourite crossover.
  12. Got the same experience with teens in tutoring. Just be honest with them, drop that adult claptrap about "the golden years of childhood" (were those people even teenagers once or are their memories that bad?) and the questions start coming.

    The Language (and travel) Thread

No, you're correct. It's just that they're proliferating lately and turning up in places where, while appropriate in English, they aren't meant to be in German. Boring Grammar Time: the rule, for names, is to simply add an "s" to the word when denoting a possessive, like, Martinas Computer, with no apostrophe in sight. If the word already ends in s (or something sounding close enough, like z), you don't add a second one (like you'd do in English with names, as in James's car). Instead, you put a lone apostrophe to make it a possessive, like, Klaus' Auto. The combination of apostrophe and s is not something you use when doing things strictly according to grammar. However, (you knew that something like that was coming, right? ) since it's become increasingly common due to English exerting its influence on the language, after the last reform it's now officially allowed in one case, namely when you want to make clear that the possessive in question is the female form and a male form with s exists. So, yes, Andrea's Kiosk is now technically correct despite the joke above, but only if you want to make clear that the place belongs to Andrea and not Andreas. It wouldn't work with, say, Martina, since the male form is Martin.

    The Political Thread

A local newspaper compared Boris Johnson's negotiation tactics with the EU to a bank robber storming the cashier's office, putting his gun against his temple and shouting, "I've got a hostage!"

It's like this in German, basically: (gehört means belongs to)

    Which Sherlock Holmes are you?

Now I so want to see that.
  17. Welcome to the forum! That's a tricky question there ... I'd go with Rathbone, too, mostly for nose-related reasons.

    Favourite "Sherlock" Pictures, etc.

The point, far as I understood it, is that it's kind of a running joke to "confuse" any two complicated words starting with B and C as Benedict Cumberbatch's name (because it's so long or something), like the above, or:

    The Dress (color perception)

Nah, I'm saying so because, in a pic with proper lighting and camera, the original dress is quite definitely black and blue: https://www.romanoriginals.co.uk/thedress
