What other TV shows do you watch?

We're slowly making our way through Monk (I say slowly because I'm not home very much these days), and have finally made it all the way to the final two-part episode.  Presumably we will soon know A} who killed Trudy and B} why.

No idea what we'll do with ourselves after that!

I love "Monk"!

I've been watching my way through 13 Reasons. I don't recommend it, very depressing. Any of you seen it?

Not me, I thought it looked depressing.

I've been watching my way through 13 Reasons. I don't recommend it, very depressing. Any of you seen it? A guy takes the blame for a girl's suicide towards the end (not a spoiler you know she's dead from the get-go), and I don't get why he's responsible. Got two more episodes to go, maybe it'll make more sense, though I doubt it.

I have been hearing a few about it, it seems to have generated quite a bit of controversy. But I haven't watched it and I don't think I want to. Looks like I would find it too disturbing.

I have loved many TV shows since I was , let's say, 18. My favourite ones:

The Avengers. The 60's one, whith John Steed (not a surprise I'm fond of Mycroft, then). It was aired on French TV in the early 90's, in subtitled English (which was something in this time).

Friends.

X-Files.

Person of interest (the two heroes have common points with Sherlock, and it portrays New-York as a character, a little like Mofftiss do with London).

And a few French ones: le mari de l'ambassadeur, Zone blanche.

It's like a pub quiz of the years events, they have it on every year. Three teams of comedians (mostly, they tend to stick the odd celeb in), bit raucous. It's quite long, about an 1.45hr without ads, but pretty funny.

I may have seen a clip of that once.  I think Stephen Fry was in it, and kicking the competition's butt.  That's just a vague recollection, though, and may have been something else entirely.

At the moment, I'm watching the World Darts Championship on BBC. Never watched a darts match before, knew nothing about it, and suddenly with 20 minutes of exposure I'm talking about Phil Taylor's legendary career and double 16's and Rob Cross is probably gonna take the title this year.

Is that guy with the technicoloured mohawk on there? Google tells me he's Peter Wright. Pretty much always has different hair.

I don’t think so, didn’t see him anywhere. I only tuned in for about the last hour though.

I think the crowd is drunk. They seem pretty rowdy and they’ve been singing “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” over and over again, almost continuously since I turned it on. Unless that is some sort of darts championship tradition.

No, but being drunk is a darts tradition.

There's a new BBC crime series starting called Hard Sun, it's by the guy who created Luther. It's a just about pre-apocalypse police series. I'm a bit dubious, but I'll give it a go - starts on Saturday here.

Isn’t that an *everything* tradition? :P

Has anyone watched Thirteen? It's a BBC drama about a girl who was held captive for 13 years.

Not something I could comfortably watch, I don't think.

I'm tempted to try "The Alienist" in January. Never read the book, but it's set in the (late) Victorian era and I do love period dramas. Also, criminal psychology. Looks like it's only going to be a miniseries though, so if I end up liking it that'll be a bummer.

I'm glad to hear that "The Alienist" is finally getting a screen treatment.  At the time it was burning up the bestseller lists in the early '90s, there was talk of a feature film, eagerly anticipated by me, but it never materialized.  I had had the leads picked out already in my mind palace, too.  For the Alienist, no one would do but Sir Anthony Hopkins, fresh off his Hannibal Lechter mojo.  The fact that Hannibal was also a psychiatrist was not the deciding factor--it just seemed to me that Sir Anthony could very well match the character as described.  For the part of the young journalist, John Cusack was a no-brainer.  Of course, time has marched on and both my picks are too old now.  I'm keen to see who they did choose.

If this miniseries is done as well as Hannibal was, I think it will surpass anything a feature film of a scant two hours could have done with such a massive book back in the pre-CGI days.  Limited series on cable are the way to go for such extended works.

Mr. Carr is a dedicated historian and a gifted stylist in his métier.  Because I enjoyed The Alienist so much, (though it disturbed my dreams for a few nights), I invested in Carr's Sherlockian pastiche novel, The Italian Secretary.  Imagine my disappointment that it was, while terrible is too strong a word, seriously sub-par.  Carr really struggled with the Watsonian voice; he aimed, and missed, for the most part, and the story got exceedingly thin and stretched like he started out writing an action thriller screenplay and ran out of gas.  I cannot recommend it, even if the promised backstory of Mary, Queen of Scots, promises that it will be interesting.

No not an easy watch, especially when I just finished Thirteen Reasons. I need to find something light and fun to watch for a bit I think, though I'm more drawn to dark and moody. Been thinking of watching Line of Duty for a while.

Ah, just came across some Park and Rec gifs. Used to enjoy watching that, I love Ron Swanson.

The Big Bang Theory was funny tonight.   I like the ones where Sheldon experiments on his friends.

Are Sheldon and Amy married yet? I am still stuck somewhere in series 4. I think it will be years until I catch up.

He he he, I'm watching Line of Duty, and the guy who plays the superintendent that John punches just turned up and as far as I can tell he's playing something like a superintendent this time too. I keep expecting John and Sherlock to go walking past the window on the way to Lestrade's office.

Hubs and I are watching Stranger Things.  Given that I don't like supernatural mysteries or teenage-centered storylines all that much, I'm surprisingly addicted to it.
