I'm probably being thick here, but how do I get a link to show up without the code in my sig - so you click on text something like "this is my link" in the sig and it takes you to the relevant place. I tried using the code box and it didn't like me...

You should be able to edit your signature by going to "My settings" -> "Signature". The editor there is pretty similar to the one for new posts, so you should be able to simply type the text you want as a link, then highlight it and click on the link button (9th from the left on the bottom row, the one with a chain and a plus button) and enter where you want the link to point.

 

That worked for me, anyway. If you keep having trouble, let me know and I can set the signature for you...
