The ending is just lovely. Thanks to this show for totally glorifying the experience I think every introvert has had at least once: Sneaking off from a party because you realize you just don't belong, no matter how much you like the people there or how happy you are for them. When I saw Sherlock do that with so much grace (and such a cool coat swirl), I almost teared up.

When I saw Sherlock do that with so much grace (and such a cool coat swirl), I almost teared up.

 

Exactly why I love it so much! And Sherlock was really wonderful to John and Mary, throughout the episode never really letting on how it bothered him to face 'the end of an era'. Which somehow makes it both sadder and more endearing.

And the fact that he left his beloved violin behind. That is what made it so very much sadder for me, anyway

I liked it a lot. It was better than first one. Anyway I still do not understand what was the role of woman-client who came to Sherlock to solve ghost dating. What was her original intention?

 

I don't think she explicitly stated it; I suppose she wanted it confirmed that she had "dated" somebody "real" instead of a ghost. That's why she brought them to the flat where she spent time with him. 

If she truly believed in the "dating a ghost" idea, she wouldn't have sought confirmation through a website and a private (consulting!) detective.

What bothers me more is that she wanted two drunk men to solve her case. Why couldn't she just wait until morning?

Some people are just....ignorant that way or just down right impatient. They want what they want when they want it. She had a case for the great Sherlock Holmes and she wanted him to solve it as quickly as possible.

Or she didn't realize just how drunk they were until it was too late. She probably expected some kind of erratic behavior from Mr Holmes based on stories she'd heard, so initially, she might not have understood that something was wrong.

Well, she was a nurse. I would expect her to know that something was wrong the moment she met them.

Not all nurses have a good bedside manner. They can petulant, over bearing, tyrannical, bossy....in other words, not very observant nor caring.

That had not occurred to me, but you're right -- he wasn't carrying it when he left.  We needn't worry about the violin, of course, John will bring it back to him.  But that does say a good deal about Sherlock's state of mind.

  Well, I must admit, that thought did occur to me too....but well after the fact. Once I got over my depression of that scene.

I still cannot understand why the photographer behaved so remarkably (?) in front of the guardsman (Bainbridge)? He took photos of him every day. What was his purpose with that? He should have kept a low profile if his intention was to test his killing method...

But was completely foreshadowed in Sherlock's conversation with Mrs. Hudson.

She knew John's middle name. I believe she was a CAM plant.

She was Major Sholto's nurse. He received the invitation with John's full name...including Hamish...and she saw the invite and knew it was for a wedding, at least that was the explanation given by Sherlock. He realized her connection at the reception, when he dropped his wine glass and spoke to her in his mind palace. That is when he realized that a murder was going to take place and started deducing.

Wasn't it funny how Sherlock objected to Major Sholto? I really laughed when Mary teased him about it. She was so cute in that scene. It was a nice twist to write "jealousy" all over Sherlock's face like that without disturbing his affection for Mary or his approval of her as John's wife. Marriage is definitely an area of his life where John is free to do as he likes in Sherlock's eyes (provided he marries a woman like Mary and not "a boring teacher" or another one of his previous girl friends), but when it comes to commanding officers, that is obviously quite a different matter...
