Post Your Moriarty Theories (Spoilers)

Jim Moriarty

Recommended Posts

Definitely not science fiction...but at least one poster did note that there did seem to be two Moriarty's, if the time differencial can be pinned down, and if this theory is very close, then there were identical brothers....or even some very close relative in the mix. Especially if it turns out that it was Daddy Holmes who had the affair.

You mean the shaved/not shaved thing? Anything's possible at this point.

Do the Whovians go thru this? I haven't really followed that show for years (I never can figure out when it's on), if it's as crazy making as Sherlock, I don't want to start now!

Yep, same here. I adored Tom Baker. Another character with a great scarf!

I have seen this before. Here:

What exactly is that tiny particle floating in Moriarty's blood?
I am getting the feeling it was intentional and has something to do with Moriarty's apparent return...

I have heard that Moftiss say it's a token bit of brain tissue (which would sorta argue against his return), since they had to tone it way down for their time slot.  But in the Sherlock universe, who knows?

Hey guys, i'm new here and i just wanted to get across some ideas that i had.

From reading all the posts i've noticed a few theories that have been backed up with fact before hand. For example:

The theory about: fake suicide.

As much as i love Andrew Scott as an actor, it surely couldn't of been two suicides. As stated before with a GIF of Moffat verifying that they didn't both fake suicide on the same roof, either it was truth or he was lying. I also have the idea that if Moriarty was laying there not dead waiting for Sherlock to jump, surely he would want to make sure he was dead and might pop his head over the roof to check? And he might of seen the movement from the homeless network and the big blue air bag.

Another thing that popped into my mind while watching series 3 (which could be the stupidest theory ever) is Sherlocks supposedly 'girlfriend' from The last vow, who is also irish. It could either be ironic but both her and Moriarty are irish and i think it would be cool to see her back an that in some way she might of helped Jim as a way to get back on Sherlock aswell as the newspaper lies.

I am also intrigued by Richard Brook's fast growing beard which is previously mentioned.

Either way i would love to see Andrew Scott come back in any form and they are just my opinions and thoughts...:)

They did make quite a bit of the "Irish Connection" in "His Last Vow"....well actually....it did all start with Sherlock himself....since Sherlock is an Irish name in origin. Then Redbeard was an Irish Setter.  It will be interesting to see what they make of Janine.....if anything.....

Hello, Laurenmoriarty -- welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :welcome:  Thanks for jumping right in with your comments.

As you say, surely if Moriarty had faked that gunshot, he would have known Sherlock wasn't really dead.  I'm also thinking that surely -- somewhere between Moriarty's apparent death and John's arrival -- Sherlock would have checked the "body."  So if the same Moriarty is really coming back, Moftiss have a whole lot of 'splaining to do!

Thank you for the warm welcome,

I have also just been reading a tumblr post and these simple few words intrigued me and but a whole different perspective on Sherlock.

If reichbach is richard brook in german which is a 'joke' then...

What if you but “Falls of the Reichenbach.” In to a different context just as

'Richard Brook’s Fall'

The fall that he owes to Sherlock.

My memory may be slipping but didn't Moriarty say that Sherlock owed *him* a fall, not the other way round?

Nope, Jim says "I owe you" when they're having tea.

From the tea-party scene:

JIM: It’s gonna start very soon, Sherlock: the fall. But don’t be scared. Falling’s just like flying, except there’s a more permanent destination.
SHERLOCK: Never liked riddles.
JIM: Learn to. Because I owe you a fall, Sherlock. I ... owe ... you.

"I owe you a fall" could be interpreted to mean either "I owe it to you to take a fall myself" or "I owe it to you to see that you fall."  I've always assumed that Jim meant the latter.  However, I can't absolutely swear that he didn't mean the former -- which is how things seemed to have turned out as of the end of "Reichenbach."

I take it as the latter....because Moriarty said that Sherlock had to die. To take a fall...as Carol quoted above. If Moriarty was planning to "take a fall"....why should Sherlock be scared....and why would Moriarty go to such great length to destroy Sherlock's reputation if it Moriarty was going to be the one taking the fall.

On the roof, Moriarty does tell Sherlock to jump and get it over with.

Hi guys,

I have watched it all over and over. But maybe we miss a big clue.

How does the Reichenbach fall begins and end?

It begins and ends with John sitting and talking with a Psych.

What about the thought that its all John's imagination, sort off.

The story is told by John to the Psych. So there is NO way off telling that the situation on the roof was like John told. Mr Moffat always told the public they missed a big clue!!!

People were thinking about the fall of Sherlock but what about a big clue about the whole episode?

This could mean Moriarty is still alive and going. But that is just a theory I could think off

SO , I actually think Moriarty is alive, that Sherlock @ Mycroft knew that .

When Sherlock shot Magnussen he took a metaphorical fall and so Sherlock could well be expect ing Moriarty to turn up and bail him out of the eastern europe job.

Moriarty represents evil and Sherlock good and either both are in the world to fight each other or things are boring. That is the final problem and the fall is the fall of man and that is why Moriarty calls Sherlock the virgin - he means innocent. The real resolution to TRF is the baby.(metaphorically). Thats the theme.

Reasons why...

Hope said right back in ASIP Moriarty was more than a man.

On Johnwatsonsblog Moriarty/anon appears to have left a misspelled message after the iron giant case..stay alive dont fall because Moriarty lives!

Marys skipcode not only did she deliver it to SH for Magnussen...she had to choose James or John Sinner or Saint. She thought M was dead and swapped sides.

Here be dragons was Mycrofts nod to Sherlocks utility in fighting Moriarty rescuing him if things went badly with Magnussen.

Sherlock saying I got you on the roof may of been SH telling Moriarty#1 , he knew he was a fake , maybe he and Mycroft ran the dna from the tea or the apple.

Sherlock suspected Mary may connect to Moriarty after she shot him....so fed John the blah to keep her onside and maybe she can be bait/a lead .

The MissMe message may actually have been for Mary Morstan.

I thought we had already been told Rich Brook was fake, when he grimaced at Sherlock while John and Kitty had their backs turned? I like the idea that he's carrying on from behind the grave. If it is another villain it had better be a really good one. I don't want the reveal to be "Haha! You thought Moriarty was back! But no, it's someone less interesting and less entertaining. We got you!!" That would be awful.

Oh yes, a dead man's switch would be fit with the consequences that Mofftiss said will exist in the series 4.
