Sherlock Holmes Baffled

I suppose that's from the era when people would watch anything that moved.  Presumably that Holmes is not William Gillette, so Gillette was not the first movie Holmes.  I also see here that neither was he the first stage Holmes, though he was perhaps the first actor who was well known as Holmes.

1900, so film was only 5 years old with the first ever public screening of film in 1895.  It is interesting to note the "special effects" so early into film's history.  Still 1 minute seems a little "short" even for that period.

It's not William Gillette, but I have absolutely no idea who the fella is in Baffled. He's completely unknown.

Apparently no one knows who the two actors were (see Wikipedia).  This was originally produced for an arcade peep-show machine, which may explain why it's so short.  But it's still the first known screen appearance for Holmes, and also the first known detective film.
