hello, everyone.

new to this forum, not to forums in general: used to post a lot in various fandom forums in past.

lately been rather hooked on tumblr and sort of interact that way with other fans.

I'm relatively new to the sherlock world (my addiction started this year), sherlock the series, that is: been a  huge fan of conan doyle's novels for many many years: probably some of my fave books ever.

I love both benedict and martin and recently thanks to the amazing coriolanus stage show, I got to know also gatiss' great talent.

was so lucky as to see scott on stage years ago and loved him. I do think he does a great job as a raging psychopath (yes, psychopath and not sociopath, sherlock: I learnt my lesson ).

loved rupert graves for years, back from the times of Maurice.

so, basically I adore all the cast, molly and mrs hudson included, two of my fave characters.

hope you'll be patient with me being not as skilled as many of you in this field

BTW, LOVE the site! seriously amazing and so much to discover: still making my way through it.

OK, I'll stop blabbing. sherlock would be annoyed

cheers!

Yeah, but we're not! Welcome!

I'm going to take this opportunity to wave my hand in a different sense: I'm on a (well deserved, if I say so myself) vacation, and I have very limited internet access where I am here, plus considerably more people to deal with than my inner sociopath finds quite agreeable, but they are all family, and so it is kind of important for me to make the effort.

So I won't be hanging around here much for the next two weeks... Enjoy the peace and quiet, because believe me, I'll be back soon enough. :naughty:

Hi there and welcome!

Hi, welcome avoca... My signature used to be cluing for looks, just changed it about 2-3 weeks ago.

it's silly (and very funny IMO), but probably one of my fave scenes in the series.

shows both benedict's and martin's great comic talent and sherlock getting rid of his inhibitions (not necessarily a good thing, but interesting indeed)  ;)

My favorite part of the stag night scene comes right after that (quote from Ariana DeVere's transcript):

SHERLOCK (indignantly): What d’you think you’re doing? Don’t compromise the integrity of the ...
(He turns round, bends over and throws up on the rug.)
JOHN (loudly): ... crime scene!
(He grins triumphantly at Tessa and holds up his right palm for her to high-five.... Sherlock ... gestures towards John with the magnifier.)
SHERLOCK: Yeah, that.
(Looking up at the others, he holds up the magnifier and delicately clicks it closed, then wipes the vomit off his mouth.)

John's triumphant high-five attempt and Sherlock delicately wiping a drop of vomit off his chin are just priceless.

The stag night scenes have brought up discussions with my son about why getting drunk is not good and the dangers of alcohol on the body otherwise.  And we laugh when we watch how crazy those 2 are.

There's something a bit Laurel-and-Hardyish about that scene, isn't there?  (Specifically, the part I quoted above.)

Yes there is.

Well I have a problem with this part of the stag night scene. The first half is hilarious but I just can't get over the fact that someone would ask two visibly drunk men to solve a crime. And I find the vomiting bit quite disgusting actually.

I did too at first but repeated watchings have made the heart grow fonder. Especially as it culminates in the scene with Greg yelling "Not really!" That was priceless and worth going through the rest to get to! (As is just about any scene with Greg..... )

I just think the nurse was supposed to be such a complete ditz she didn't realize they were drunk. (Some nurse!) The landlord seemed to realize they were.

I love the scene with Lestrade too :)

I've had to explain the effects of a hangover to my 12 year old because of that scene.  We laugh but he knows that it is not wise to be like John & Sherlock on the stag night.

what I also liked of this part of the episode, is the miserable failure of sherlock's exact plan for getting a little tipsy but not drunk..

most of his plans never fail and I find it interesting to see the dinamics when one does..  ;)

hi

yeah, maurice has been one of my fave films for yrs. all of ivory's films  back from that time.

lovely story (from forster's novel), pretty groundbreaking for his times (forster's I mean, not ivory oc.).

and with a great cast as well.

While I find vomiting per se pretty disgusting, the way Sherlock vomited struck me as hilarious (especially the dainty one-fingered chin-wipe).  Chalk it up to terrific acting, I suppose.

As for why Tessa would hire two drunks -- well, once she worked up the courage to approach the famous Sherlock Holmes, she was probably propelled by her own momentum.  Besides, he has a reputation for being eccentric, so for all she knows, that's normal for him.

Sherlock's plan would presumably have worked just fine if John had been on board with it.  Kinda fun to see him successfully sabotage Sherlock's careful plans, actually.

What still puzzles me is -- did John intend to give the second shot to himself or to Sherlock?

Well, that would make sense, I think. But still, she just could have waited till the morning. But I think I'll have to accept your explanation :)

I always thought he wanted to give it to Sherlock. If he had wanted it for himself he would have drunk it at the bar.
