Mark Gatiss News

Thanks, J.P.!  Looks like they got the late-40s look just fine.

And I'm tentatively heartened by this paragraph near the end:

Bookish is the latest UKTV Original drama for Alibi. Other recently announced series include I, Jack Wright, written by Chris Lang and starring Nikki Amuka-Bird and John Simm. The Red King, starring Anjli Mohindra, Adjoa Andoh and Marc Warren, is currently airing on Wednesdays at 9pm, with all episodes available as a boxset.

... specifically that last little bit.  But there's also this bit near the beginning:

As international partner, Beta Film is handling the world sales.

Which makes me wonder just how / if the US will be served.  An article in The Guardian says this:

The Red King is on Alibi on Wednesdays at 9pm; season-one box set available on Sky, Virgin and Now.

... which also puzzles me.  I've heard of Sky and Virgin, but thought they were broadcast companies rather than box-set vendors.

Mark Gatiss and Daniel Mays in first look at new British crime drama

The duo are starring in Bookish.

The six-part Bookish will be coming to Alibi in the UK next year. A US partner will be announced at a later date.

What sort of service is Alibi -- broadcast, streaming, etc.?

[Warning:  Standard rant follows.]  I could fairly safely bet that I won't be able to see this series when it comes to the US. -- simply because our DSL (i.e., medium-speed) internet service does not gracefully support streaming.  Which is more or less irrelevant anyhow, because it seems like the shows I'm interested in are all on different streaming services -- and it makes no sense to shell out that kinda dough for just one show per service.

Maybe there'll be a DVD eventually.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It might be some British crime channel imo. No idea when, or if it gets a broader distribution.

As for the streaming platforms - check if you have to pay for longer periods. I just do platform hopping.

I'm registered on several of them, Sky, Amazon, Disney, Netflix. What I do though - I watch one of them, like for a month, and then cancel. Then I go to another one and do the same. All those services allow you to come back and renew the subscription, at least here.

That may very well be possible here as well.  But there aren't many shows that we want to watch, so it wouldn't be a good use of our money.

We do sometimes sign up for Amazon Prime for one week (a mere $2), which not only gives us next-day delivery if there's something we want ASAP, it also allows us to watch their shows -- mostly we do it when Alex wants to watch a sports event that isn't being broadcast.

Fwiw, Alibi is a TV channel, but as such it's British only: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alibi_(TV_channel) . You might want to check https://www.justwatch.com/ next year or so to see where the series ended up internationally.

As for the streaming services chaos, I'd suggest, er, alternative sources for watching (we have Netflix and Disney+ and refuse to pay for a third service, thank you very much) but if your internet isn't well suited for streaming then this won't work for you either, I'm afraid.
