Maybe this is a stupid question, but how annoying is Graham Norton in this? I saw one of his shows a while ago and couldn't stand it after a while...

I haven't watched this one yet, but Graham Norton is always annoying.  It's his job!

Anyone who goes on his show needs to be prepared to be a "good sport" -- no matter what.

I actually like the format of his show.  Rather than bring out one guest at a time, he has the all come out and they interact with each other, creating some truly hilarious moments.  I don't find him nearly as annoying as the Chatty guy (name escapes me).

The link sfmpco posted above doesn't work anymore so I've found a new one:

As for Graham Norton, I really like his show. Yes, he's a bit annoying sometimes but I agree with sfmpco that the format of the show is great. And this episode is hilarious, by the way :)

alan carr?

I REALLY don't like alan carr. either this or last year, tom hiddles was a guest and I couldn't bear watching the episode cause of carr.

still have to watch this episode of GNS, but I mean to: seen gifs and it looks cool.  :)

Yeah, Alan Carr.  Don't care for him.  I do like Jonathan Ross, though, but he's still old style format of one guest at a time.  I think the links for the GN show may come and go until that show puts up its own version.

Apparently that link doesn't work in the USA.  Fortunately i was able to see the whole thing last night before the first link was taken down.  The show was very funny.  And BC's giggle when asked if he was in the Star Wars movie was hysterical right before he said, "No comment."  There are 3 legit links:

The only time I've seen Alan Carr was when he interviewed Martin Freeman, and though I did find him a bit silly, it seems like that's simply his style (and Freeman seemed to find him genuinely amusing).  I don't recall him being rude at all, so I don't find him particularly annoying.

Norton, on the other hand, seems to go out of his way to be obnoxious in the name of entertainment.  Maybe his staff warns guests what the topics will be (as would be the civilized way), but Norton goes out of his way to put people on the spot.  The best I can say is that he's not quite as bad as Caitlin Moran in that regard.  His guests seem to take it all in stride -- but what choice do they have, if they want to be on his (very popular) show?

This link still appears to be working. 2 parts, ads, but it's worth it, funny all the way through.

I don't mind that Norton is a bit obnoxious because it allows for more candid conversation.  He seems to be able to just knock the edge off the canned responses that come with so many talk shows.

I really like the Graham Norton show, but I can see how people would find him a little annoying, but I always think that he brings out the best in his interviews, and a good "star" would do their research and at least watch one of his shows so they know what to expect.  I did once see an interview where the person who was a musical guest at the end came to the sofa and was so either terrified or just plain rude;  I cannot remember who it was, it was a woman but I can't remember her name, she isn't well known, well at least I'd never heard of her before.

Looks like Cumberbatch is practicing saying "No comment" -- which should come in handy.

I love seeing him do Smaug's voice.  Some people have been saying that Smaug sounded so little like Sherlock that most of what we hear is probably the processing.  Maybe now they'll stop to think that perhaps Cumberbatch himself was doing a dragon voice instead of a genius-detective voice!

I wouldn't mind the ads quite so much if a] they hadn't played the first one (in each half) over top of the show, and b] they hadn't played the same one again.  And again.  And....

It just occurred to me that there's a connection -- not mentioned on the show -- between Benedict Cumberbatch and Timothy Spall (the man at the other end of the sofa).  The common factor is "The Falls of the Reichenbach" -- Spall's character (in the forthcoming Mr. Turner) painted it, and Mr. Cumberbatch's character (in Sherlock) retrieved it.

Mr. Turner, which opens later this week in some countries, is highly rated by critics, and Spall won the Best Actor award for it at this year's Cannes festival.

There's some glitch there ... I only got the same ad twice, but something else blanked out BC's "Beyonce Walk." I thought it was just my laptop being pokey again, but I guess not.

I wanna see that "Turner" movie!

God love him.  I so value the candor he seems to exhibit in so many of his interviews, but if he's going to be this popular right now, he really needs to learn to "no comment" his tail end off.

I'd love to think that "no comment" about Star Trek was a hint.  I didn't even know who he was (beyond some red carpet-type coverage) when I saw him as Khan, and I immediately thought that was some darn good casting.  And I'm super-picky about my Star Trek.

I choose to believe it meant something.   At least with Star Wars he straight up denied it, although not that there was much probability of that.   :)

ETA: But his Jar Jar Binks impression!

Me too. I've been a little bit of a Turner fan for decades, ever since reading a book that recommended his art as having a calming effect on the viewer. That got me curious so I looked him up and found that I very much like his style -- though unfortunately his subject matter often turns me off (shipwrecks and destructive fires, for example). The first time we were in London, we went to the Turner exhibit at the Tate Britain (unfortunately they were showing fewer Turners than usual at that time, due to a special exhibit, but we did see quite a few).

Oh darn -- I misquoted IMDb's release info for Mr. Turner.  It is indeed scheduled for release this week in some countries, but not till December 19th in the US (and then only a limited release).  See IMDb for the release date in your country.

Phooey, that means I'll have to drive an hour to see it, or wait til it's out on video... :(

Thanks for linking to this... I had never actually seen Timothy Spall in an interview, I only knew him from various villain roles. Very nice to get a glimpse of the man behind the monsters. Seems I should check out that Turner film when it airs, to see what else he can do.

And now I have a new great quote: "Never be afraid to be a petty fool - it means you're not dying."

?????

"Limited release" means, in my case, "not showing in any theater near you." Hence, long drive or wait for video.

Well, heck, if that's all it takes, I guess I'm going to live forever!
