Can you figure this out?

Alright, my fellow Sherlockians, here is a tiny challenge (it really is not that challenging I guess). ;)

I've just finished doing this - school assignment actually - and tomorrow I'm gonna e-mail it to the teacher.

I don't want to make it even easier for you, so I'm not giving any more details now. :)

Last thing -- in the end, the 'message' is in my language but that shouldn't be a problem. Just write what you... get.

I don't "get" anything! I see a red X and a V and a lot of triangles. Then I see something that looks like a tire mark. And letters in a language I can't understand.

 

What was the project?

Well, don't mind the triangles - that is just an "art" thing because I'm on an art school and it is an assignment for an art class. (I won't tell you what the 'topic' was just yet - that would give away the whole message I think...)

1. Red "X" and "V" are quite important. So what is "XV"? (That is the most important clue I would say).

2. The thing that looks like a tire mark is supposted to be stylised bit of Laurel wreath.

3. What is written there - what you see - isn't really a language. That's the thing, you have to figure out what is actually written there.
The letters are all capitals with serifs (the little lines at the end of each stroke).

So there, I hope I clarified things up a bit. :smile:

Sherlock has dealt with what this is; with a thing *like* this -- not particularly this one.

Think I may have figured out something even if it is not the complete answer or close at all.

 

 

The Greek Interpreter...even if the numbers are technically Roman numerals

Y'all are definitely doing better than me.  I didn't even "see" the red X and V, just some pieces of red lines.

 

I do notice that one of the text X's is nicely centered on one of the triangle lines.

The first part was a Sherlock case ACD not Moftiss and was just my extremely wild out in left field guess.  Think we might actually be dealing with a cryptogram of some sort and I'm rubbish at those.

Yep, that is correct and VERY important.

So you have number 15 (that tells two things but one is vital for you to decipher - there you go - it is a cipher) and

they are roman numerals. And not just the numerals... Laurel wreath. Roman square capitals (well, my poor attempt really :D)

Yes. :smile:

Though that is the less important thing you can get from that 15.

It tells you what it's all about, but you still need to decipher the message.

Maybe 15 tells you which letters to read? Like "E (1) T (5) I (1) R (5) E (1) P (5)" or "P (15) I (15) E (15) X (15) ..."

That's quite complicated, I'm not sure I understand it :D but no, that's not it.

 

It's all very 'Roman' for a reason. And the Laurel wreath points (not literally) at what cipher we are dealing with. ;)

:bouncy: Yes, I believe you got it! (I think it is the same as):

 

 

Caesar Cipher

 

 

Now that you know what you are dealing with, (well, google it to find out how it works) just connect it with the main clue and after a while you should have the deciphered message.

No, no. Don't guess. :D And there is no J in the cipher.

You just did it the other way around... :D

And I see you went 14 letters forward from the ciphered to plain... Why 14?

 

Also, if you started with the ciphered text

 

You shouldnt have gone forward. You have to decipher it, so you have to go backwards. Like "undo" it. ;)

I think you just miscounted.

 

I think you went 16, not 15. :smile:

And going backwards is right - as I said - you are "undoing" the cipher.

When I was ciphering it, I went forwards.

Ah, you got it! Congrats and thanks to all of you. :)

PF stands for French "pour féliciter" which - I just found out - is only used in Czech and Slovak but not French speaking countries and basically means "Happy new year!" (Do you really not use PF? I thought it is... international)

"dvetisicpatnast" or correctly "dvetisícpätnásť" is "two thousand fifteen"

So the message is simply "Happy new year two thousand fifteen" :smile:
