Mr. Burns/Grinch parody.

"Look at them all through the darkness I'm bringing.
They're not sad at all, they're actually singing!
They sing without juicers! They sing without blenders!
They sing without flunjers, capdabblers and smendlers!"

Simpsons, I'm guessing?

I might've watched that show, except that I simply can't bear that style of animation, it's so ugly it almost makes me ill.

Yep.  I only liked the humor of the first 10 or 11 seasons, at most.  It's been horrid from then on.

This is more sad than funny, but wow.  I would highlight more than just that one.

"List of reasons for admission into a mental asylum in 1864-1889."

Is that supposed to be for real?  If your husband abuses you, or he deserts you -- they throw *you* into the loony bin?!

Sounds about right. Women are so feeble-minded. :p

The ones that get me are "fighting fire" and "salvation army". Huh?

WTF?!?!?!

My best guess is that it's a compilation of reasons given in various individual cases -- rather than an official list of acceptable reasons (there probably was no such official list at that time).

Imagine if it was a list of acceptable reasons though. "OMG, she's reading a novel, someone call the men in the white coats, quick!" :D

Errrr... is it possible that Moriarty got locked up because he was reading the novel version of the fairy tale he read to Sherlock? Or at the very least, that is how Sherlock admits patient in his mind palace? See? Everything makes sense now, Sherlock makes that list.

I mean, for all the kidnappings, murders, break-ins he actually walks free. :D Even when it goes through court.

Okay, now take a step back and look at us.   LOOK AT US!

How many time we said to ourselves or fellow forum members that we/they should be in straight-jacket! Hmmm... hmmmm???? Suddenly it doesn't seem like a stretch eh? Okay, give me a pen and we should add "Becoming Sherlock forum member" to the list and let the rest of the world gasp at its absurdity.

I'm not sure the rest of the world would find it all that absurd, actually. "Hm, yes, obsessed with a show that's not even on the air anymore, right … off to the sanitarium with her!"

Library signs.

Having worked in a library and fielded many vague questions from patrons, the blue book picture (above) is so accurate it hurts.  Some of the others, too (the last three especially).
