  1. On Sunday 4th August, I headed off down to London for the day to meet up with a friend from livejournal and the co-author of one of my fics, who just happens to come from Australia. She was over in the UK for a wedding so it seemed really daft that she should actually be in the same country and for me not to make the effort to see her. She just happened to be staying in a hotel on Gower Street and my train from Liverpool gets into Euston which is just down the road from North Gower Street, so that is where we started on our little jaunt. Speedy's was unfortunately closed as it was a Sunday and I think it primarily caters for office workers/commuters. You can see the rest of my photos at http://s215.photobucket.com/user/a_lanart/library/sherlock/sherlockday After Speedy's we went to Baker Street proper. We didn't even attempt to go into 221 as the queues were ridiculous but we headed into the souvenir shop next door and all got ourselves a little something as a reminder (I got a Baker Street fridge magnet). Mrs Hudson's restaurant is next door to the gift shop, but we went to the pub next door but one to that (The Volunteer) for lunch. I needed to find an internet cafe after that as I'd discovered on my way down that I hadn't printed out my return ticket, luckily there was one just round the corner from Baker Street! Suitably fortified, and with ticket sorted out, we headed off to St Barts. We looked up, we looked down, we looked around and we still haven't decided how Sherlock 'did' it, besides Molly helping out. There were also some differences of opinion as to which building John's sniper would have been in (from an in-universe pov). (look at the window above my friends in this, I didn't even notice when I was taking the pic) Then we wandered just a bit further down the road and went and looked at the Priory church of St Bartholomew the Great. It's a lovely church which was founded as part of the priory in 1123, though it was heavily restored in the 19th c. We didn't go inside. After that, we needed coffee but I got distracted by the architecture of Smithfield market... After coffee we headed back towards Regents Park as there was a Sherlockian meet up in a pub near there. Much fun was had, but I found it hilarious when everyone stopped talking and started tweeting/whatever as the announcement of who the next Doctor was going to be was made on TV (they'd asked the pub staff if they could have BBC 1 on). I was the only person on our table without my head buried in a smart phone but that's partly because I don't have a smart phone (they don't work as phones with hearing aids as powerful as mine so all smart phones are therefore useless to me). I had to abandon them at 7:30 pm, just after they'd all started talking about it, so I could get my train back home. I had a great day and it would have been far too tiring to do much more.
