  1. In many of the adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty becomes a greater fixture in the Holmesian universe. He is a mastermind behind the scenes in many more of the detective's cases than the canon stories suggest. Most even have Irene Adler becoming Moriarty's puppet or pawn at some point. I've never liked that idea. For me, Adler's complete separation from Moriarty in the canon only made her more of an idol for Holmes. How do you feel about the Moriarty the Great Mastermind trope? In your headcannon, did he have a hand in many more of Sherlock's cases than the canon implied or were most of his exploits elsewhere and removed from Holmes's reach?
  2. Something which I hope will interest members. An interview with Nigel Bruce's daughter before her death, and extracts from his unpublished memoirs about his time with Basil Rathbone making the Sherlock Holmes movies and radio series. Sorry it is hard to read, do click on each page to enlarge. If any member on here has a contact within the Bruce family it would be interesting to know what became of the manuscript of this memoir. If at all possible it should be published. The only copy of Nigel Bruce's Unpublished Autobiography: Games, Gossip and Greasepaint, was with his daughter Mrs Pauline Page who lived near Oxford. She is now deceased. Nick Utechin interviewed Mrs Page who allowed him to publish extracts from the work in the Sherlock Holmes Journal, of which he is editor. The interview and extracts appeared in the Winter issue of 1998: Volume 19 Number 1. Mr Utechin kindly agreed to allow me to make the extracts more widely available. So you will find both the interview and extracts from the memoir here. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/118245811686959745462/albums/5274797161382568433
  3. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I felt we needed (Well I needed ) a Shakespeare thread. I LOVE Shakespeare. My favourite Tradegy is Richard III (I had the honour of playing Lady Anne, Richards 1st wife, at school). My favourite comedy is a toss up between A Midsummer Nights Dream and As You Like It. I can't even begin to choose a favourite Sonnet! It changes frequently. Some of my favourite Shakespeare quotes... "Now is the winter of our discontent" - Richard III "A horse! A Horse! My kingdom for a horse!" - Richard III "All the worlds a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances and one man in his time plays many parts" - As You Like It "Lord, what fools these mortals be" - A Midsummer Nights Dream "Shall I compare thee to a summers day?" - Sonnet 18 "The course of true love never did run smooth" - A Midsummer Nights Dream "This above all, to thine own self be true" - Hamlet "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" - Romeo & Juliet "The better part of valour is discretion" - Henry IV Part I "If music be the food of love, play on" Twelfth Night "Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them" - Twelfth Night That's all I can remember for now haha! Anyone else a Shakespeare fan? I can be a ye olde fangirl when I want to be
