  1. Yes, and do you remember the scene in "The Reichenbach Fall" when Sherlock jumps over the bars, and John, handcuffed to his hand, reproaches him?
  2. As far as I understand, in this episode we see the film as it was originally conceived by the screenwriters. We would have had 6 such episodes in each season if it hadn't been decided to expand the format. I really like the series in this form too. There was a lot of debate about why John left Soo Lin to help Sherlock. It seems reasonable to me, because the shooting came from there and there seemed to be the only danger. But why did Sherlock run away and leave John to deal with the police when they caught Raz painting on the wall? He should have at least hinted that John should run away too. It's like a torturing of the dying cabbie in ASiP.
  3. The screenwriters ingeniously adapted the classic ACD plot to our realities. But it is a wise move that the plot does not exactly repeat the book, but only hints at it, otherwise the watching would be banal and uninteresting. Sherlock has a pronounced personality, a charisma. At the first meeting, all this falls on John and he stands stunned by it all. But in fact it's a joy. A game is on! His life will never be as boring as it was this morning. The distinctive traits of Sherlock's character that I want to list here, because they will disappear in series 3 and 4: a coldness, a restraint, a selfishness (because the genius thinks that everyone should obey his talent), a selfishness bordering on an immorality. Deductions scenes are great. Benedict very accurately portrays an inspiration embracing a genius. In this topic, the participants wrote that they would not like to meet such a person in their life. As for me I do miss such friends as Sherlock in my life. I had a few questions about the plot. Sherlock suggests that it is statistically more likely that the murderer is a man. But what if the murderer was a woman and could safely walk down the street with a pink suitcase? The second question is: why didn't Sherlock, an enthusiastic chemist, then examine his pill under a microscope to find out whether he was right or wrong in his choice?
  4. Exactly. The adding of additional scenes to the finished work.
  5. Thank you for the warm welcome) In general, any whole work is quite difficult to supplement. From it comes the "who hunts in a crowd" problem often mentioned in this topic.
  6. Hello! It's hard to believe, but in 2010-2017 this whole series passed me by. I first watched it in 2023 and mistakenly started with the pilot episode. That is, I am the only person who got to know Sherlock from the pilot, and not from the broadcast versions. I really liked the pilot. Deduction, modern details like telephones, young actors, unlike the elderly Holmes and Watson familiar from other film adaptations of ACD books - I really liked all this, and I continued to watch the series with pleasure. I watched the broadcast version of Study in Pink in full only after season 4. Undoubtedly, technically SiP is made much better. It is a gift of fate that the first series had to be reshot, because the authors saw and corrected their shortcomings. However, the script is more harmonious in the UP. I consider the late insertions - the press conference, John and Mycroft's dialogue, the taxi chase, the drug bust - successful on their own but rather unnaturally inserted into the context of the first episode. Sherlock in the UP is completely different - smiling, charming and calm. However, his appearance is less attractive. Although he is wearing the same coat, shaggy hair and jeans exclude the idea of impeccable style, which is inherent in his on-air episodes. The camera does not try to choose the most advantageous angle for BC's face, as we see it in the series itself. However, I like both versions of Sherlock - the pilot and the broadcast one. It is a joy to see the very young Martin and Benedict in their roles. I do like one little moment at the very end, when they leave for dinner, Mrs. Hudson shouts something after them, and John answers, barely holding back laughter, it turned out very sincerely.
