Thanks to Sherlockology:

A Sherlock LEGO set is proposed -- click here for more info or to show your support for this being produced as an actual product.

This creation is based on the wonderful BBC drama "Sherlock", a contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's world famous detective Sherlock Holmes.

The set recreates the consultation room from 221 B Baker St., the apartment of Mr. Sherlock Holmes. As shown, the set contains 370 pieces. I think the set should come with a sticker sheet for the mirror and rug. The set was designed with the adult collector and/or fan of the show in mind and so accuracy in matching the set was a priority. There are a number of building techniques employed throughout the set and I believe it would be an enjoyable build.

This set will feature two mini figures: the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion John Watson.

P.S.:  The number of votes in support are increasing as you read this.  Right now, it's 1,582.

Less than a day later, it's up to 2,212.

Would be really neat if this did go into production.  One could start a collection of Martin Freeman LEGO figures!  (There's already a Bilbo Baggins.)

It's up to 3,016 (nearly a third of the way to the 10,000 needed for serious consideration).  So vote, already!

And there's now a Mrs. Hudson as well:

See Sherlockology for more info.

The vote is now up to 4,426 (approaching half of 10,000 needed).  If you have any interest in seeing this become commercially available, now's the time to >vote here< !

And there's now an optional expanded set:

Look who's come to play!

And the >vote< is now up to 5,472, over halfway.

The >vote< now stands at 6,818, and LEGO is taking note:

Congratulations on 5,000 Supporters!

Dear flailx,

This project has been gaining supporters so quickly we can't keep up with it! It’s clear that fans of the BBC show have really come together on this, and there’s no mystery as to why. You've captured the characters and the consulting room wonderfully, right down to the famous deerstalker (although how do you stalk a deer with a hat? That's a case not even Holmes can solve).

Best of luck as you continue on your journey to achieving 10,000 supporters, although something tells me you wouldn't need luck.

Sorry, got to dash. I think I left my riding crop at the mortuary.

Note: If your idea is selected, the LEGO Group will make the final decision on how your proposed product should be produced, the final design, applicable licenses, production run size, sales channels, etc. Please understand that our comments here do not have an effect on the LEGO Review that will take place if the project reaches 10,000 supporters.

The >vote< count now stands -- or runs, more like! -- at 8,250.  And more characters have been added to the proposal:

thumb640x360.jpg

This is my concept for what the characters from the show would look like as minifigs. From L to R we have the deliciously evil Jim Moriarty, Scotland Yard's best Inspector, Lestrade, Sherlock's landlady, Mrs. Hudson, lab tech and Sherlock fangirl, Molly Hooper, and Sherlock's brother, aka the British Government, Mycroft.

These are presented as a possibility if this project is made into a set. Would/should all of them be included in a set? If LEGO were to produce my original concept, basically half of Sherlock's consulting room, I would imaging it would come with Sherlock and John, and maybe one or two other figs.

Thanks to Sherlockology for alerting us to this new development.

Two more items came in on Sherlockology's newsfeed today -- the first one (about nine hours ago) saying that the vote was nearly up to 9,000 -- and the second one (about four hours ago) saying that it has already reached the 10,000 target!  According to the project's official page, the voting is now closed.  That first Sherlockology post states that LEGO won't review this project till early January, but we expect to have good news shortly thereafter!

Thanks for voting, everyone!

There's been another cleverly-written congratulatory message from LEGO:

Congrats on 10,000 Supporters, Flailx!

2013.09.23

10,000 people have become Sher-locked! In almost as short a time as it takes the consulting detective to solve a crime, this project has reached its goal of 10,000 supporters. The enthusiasm fans have shown is quite inspiring!

This project has everything you need to act out your favorite scenes in from 221B Baker Street, including a consulting criminal and a gaggle of characters for Sherlock to coyly insult.

Well I could go on and on about this project but…everything I have to say has probably already crossed your mind. Now if you excuse me, I need to go to my mind palace.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A "LEGO Review Board" composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.

The LEGO Review Begins in January
This project qualifies for the quarterly review beginning in January. For more information about the quarterly review process, see this blog post.

The review is a thorough process and from its start, and can take several months. When finished, we make a "go/no go" decision to develop and sell a product based on the “Sherlock” concept.

When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the longest phase of the project; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.

We will post follow-up information and our decision here.

LEGO won't even review the above Sherlock-inspired set till January, but that hasn't kept fans from Sherlock-related LEGO activities.  Via Sherlockology, here's a LEGO-style teaser trailer (apparently done by different people):

haha how awesome and love the personalisation in the message.  Nice touch from Lego.  I hope they get these done, it would be awesome, and they can go do battle against the evils and dastardly acts of my husbands Lego dwarves.

Well done everyone.

I think if Sherlock Lego is ever in the shops a lot of adults will be buying it!!!

Posted

I would love to buy those as mini figures on their own, but not with scenes. I already have way too many things to display, so mini figures would be perfect, as I would be able to see all their characters and display them at the same time without looking like I am a 25-year-old-child, full of toys over the house. I also think my husband may draw a line on having full sets of lego while we don't have kids yet.

I already collect vinylmations and Doctor Who titans vinyl figures (plus my collection of Pandora, Trollbeads, Faerybeads, Hobbit beads and other beads in general; but at least those all reside in a huge Trollbeads jewellery box when I am not wearing them, so my 300 plus beads don't look like hoarding. lol), I also pre-ordered the Big Chief Sherlock and Watson signed action figures, so I really am running out of possible display space.

http://www.brickdisplaycase.com has really nice looking display cases for lego mini figures, much better than the ones lego has for sale IMO. They look good enough to go with the rest of my modern decor. They are a bit on the pricey side, but I am a selective collector because of my limited space, so I always search a long time to find a good display solution for my collections (for my DW Titans and my vinylmation I ordered display cases from the Container Store in the USA, even though shipping to Germany was prohibitive they were the best solution I have found so far that are not custom built).

Soo, to sum it up: I would most certainly buy Sherlock lego figures, but PLEASE consider selling them on their own instead of just in sets, i am sure many other collectors would love that as well. From the pictures, I would want ALL of them.

I agree!  I'd love to get the John Watson figure (and I suspect my husband would then insist on getting the Sherlock figure).

It's my impression that LEGO does generally sell "parts" as well as complete sets.

I'm so excited at the prospect of this! I love Lego! Also very pleased to see they have changed Sherlock's outfit to include the purple shirt!!! :inlove:

Ah, we fans are so easy to please -- just a little dab of purple paint!  (And they fixed John's eyes, too.)

OK, I understand now -- I thought you meant that Sherlock was on the shirt that you posted, but that was just the Doctors.

Thanks for the links!
