Hello everybody :)

I found this forum a few days ago and since I'm a huge Sherlock-fan (like everybody else here ~), I decided to join.

I hope to have many interesting dicussions and maybe find some new friends :3

What is there to say about me?

I'm 19 years old, female and from Germany, therefore English isn't my first language (please just ignore my mistakes - or you could point them out so I won't do them again ... I really don't mind /D").

I'm crazy about Sherlock, Benedict & Martin since about half a year (and I don't think it will get any better soon).

Feel free to contact me, I'd be glad to make some new friends who like Sherlock as much as me :D

Love, Sayura

(I hope you guys don't mind if I write a few sentences in german?)

Hello, Sayura -- welcome to Sherlock Forum! :wave2:

Your English is very good, so you really don't need to worry about it here. (Since you asked us to point out your mistakes, I will mention the only one that I noticed -- the sentence would sound more natural if you said "since about half a year ago" -- but it's perfectly understandable as it was.)

We're glad you found us! :D

And that's OK, Otterly -- we all know that you're merely telling Sayura what a bunch of idiots we are! ;)

Nothing we didn't know already then? :lol2:

I'm sorry, I didn't know we had another Sherlock Holmes around here, that was exactly what I told her! Amazing! ;)

There'll soon be a german conspiracy here and then nobody will be able to stop us from making as many stupid english mistakes as we want to! (I'm not even sure whether that was a gramatically correct sentence...)

I'll have to start posting in Spanish, and then nobody will understand what I'm saying (including people who know Spanish -- ha!).

Oh thanks ^^

I'm glad when people tell me my mistakes - I really want to improve my English :3

Oha, echt? Ist ja cool, wenn ich normalerweise Leute aus Deutschland irgendwo treffe kommen die aus Bayern oder Berlin oder so...

I absolutely want to learn Spanish! I don't know, I think it's kind of an easy language, I speak English, I know my way around french and also know bits and pieces of Latin and well, when I hear people talking in Spanish (provided that they talk fairly slowly) I am often able to understand what they are talking about, even if I don't understand what exactly they're saying... I've always loved learning new languages and I never had a really hard time with it, so I think I might start learning Spanish some day as well.

Is it hard in your opinion? :D

I'm still learning Spanish, but I'm getting along quite well with it. My partner is Spanish and she is often surprised by how much I can understand even though I'm not a speaker.

I enjoy languages though, and generally find it quite easy to pick things up.

, un poquito.

But I've just about forgotten how to conjugate verbs in any tense except present, so I have to shift into English to say that I was pretty good at it back in school, but have forgotten a lot since then. It really helps to have someone to converse with. A friend of ours married a woman from Mexico who spoke very little English at the time. (He had been stationed in Spain when he was in the Navy, so he speaks very serviceable street Spanish.) Until she learned enough English to feel confidant speaking it, we (that it, she and I and her husband) conversed in Spanish and I was amazed at how much of it came back to me pretty easily. (But meanwhile, my husband was feeling pretty left out!)

Then as she got better in English, she and I would hold conversations where I spoke Spanish and she spoke English. Not that we planned to do that, but it worked well, because we both got some practice, but neither one of us was likely to use a word that the other one didn't already know. We haven't seen them much lately, so my Spanish is going to pot again.

Knowing French and a bit of Latin will definitely help. I don't officially know French, but with my knowledge of Spanish, I can sometimes figure out written French. Spanish pronunciation is (in my opinion) way easier than French! I think I mentioned a few days ago that Spanish doesn't inflect nouns (except for singular / plural) or adjectives (except for masculine / feminine and singular / plural), so it's much easier than German and Latin in that regard.

The fact that you already know several languages and enjoy learning new ones is a big help, too. You're way past the stage where you expect all languages to act alike. So I'd say, sure, give it a whirl!

Je ne comprends pas. Il n'y a pas des sots si incommodes que ceux qui ont l'espirit! Mais un sot trouve toujours un plus sot qui l’admire. Alors, c'est la vie. Tu voudrais apprendre francais? Je peux t'aider, si tu aimes. A bientot.

Ok - I'm glad you have joined us from Germany. Your english is rather grand even though it seems rather British. If you want to speak English the way "God" intended then you need to learn "Southern English." I'm from Tennessee in the USA and we have a unique way of speaking, sharing, and communicating. My Hebrew, Greek, and Latin are long forgotten but my Southern English is fresh and growing more expressive every day. Welcome to our Forum, Miss Sayura. You're going to love the forum. Lots of fun.

I'll take that as a compliment, okay? /D

I can't help it - in Germany you learn British English at school - although my very first teacher was an American. He was really cool, so we were all very sad when he went back to America.

Maybe I can improve my English here, that would make me very happy :D

Thanks, I hope I'll have a great time and you, too of course ^^
