Just been looking through the Sherlock Holmes cases and i just cant pick one! Its like choosing an episode from my dvd collection to watch, i find myself in the mood for a particular case. SORRY wasnt much of a contributor 🙄 As for Granada,s Speckled Band, (i cant remember if this is in the short story) the mention of the saucer of mik and what it was used for makes me shake my head in disbelief EVERY TIME 😖

TERRIBLE. The clues in the title !!! 😕 Saying that, im sure when it was written readers were less aware of the wildlife of the world. They didnt have documentaries e.g The Blue Planet played on a constant loop, introducing us to less heard of creatures.

I think we are in agreement on the novels and the adding of distant stories for the word count. As for The Hound of the Baskervilles i dont have the same issue, i feel we remain in the world of Sherlock Holmes, even if he,s not seemingly in the plot for a good chunk of it. Also the fact i like the character of Watson who does mention SH many times and writes to keep him informed. On the "Holmes part" or "Overall" i agree it has to be the overall. You cant judge one better for Holmes part, if then you are asked which of the two you would prefer to read to the pick other. Valley goes into third and Study into fourth ☺️ Just had to google 6 Thatchers, i dont recall the episode names of Sherlock as i watched them as they came out, and seems that it was years between each series (im probably wrong). I have recently re-registered on Netflix and spotted them, so looking forward to some binge watching.

Hi Carol, yes i think a third and fourth would make it a more accurate list of our favourites. It doesnt seem to be letting me vote right now, so i will log out and try later. My No1 i The Hound of the Baskervilles. My No2 will be The Sign of Four. As for my No3 and No4, im a bit stuck😕 Ive never been been a huge fan of A Study in Scarlet with its back story and the character going around with the 2 pills, just didnt grab me. As for Valley of Fear i liked the the investigation at the start, then we were off to a mining town in the U.S for half the book ,which wasnt a bad read at all, i actually enjoyed it, more so if id picked up a book called The Scowrers or The Molly Maguires. For me it left the world of Sherlock Holmes for too long.

My vote is for The Hound of the Baskervilles, because of the supernatural aspect to it. Throughout the book or film, having that feeling that there is something out there 😨

Yes i liked Jude Law as Watson and RDJ as Holmes. I didnt know what to expect with Guy Ritchie behind it,id only known him from London gangster films. It was a very different Sherlock Holmes film, which isnt always a bad thing. I enjoyed the story ,the setting was really well done and the fight sequences. I dont know if i could picture JL as Holmes, but then i probably wouldnt of picturd RDJ in that role🤐. Its a while since ive watched the Granada Sign of Four and i cant place EH romancing MM at all !! or imagine it. Yes it would of worked well with DB. Not long sinced watched The Sign of Four with Peter Cushing, Nigel Stock wasnt scared of a little wooing😀

Hi Hikari, I had never known the reason for David Burke leaving, (learning things already👍) what a shame for him, after getting such an iconic role and it being so successful. I totally agree with you that David Burke did look every bit the ex soldier-doctor, and Edward Hardwicke did look older and would of worked well in later stories, i hadnt thought about it till now, you make a good point. Thank you. I think both David Burke and Edward Hardwicke were both great Watsons, and similar. I recall watching an interview with Edward Hardwicke where he said the biggest compliment he recieved when taking over the role, was that the crew kept calling him David !! I remember sat waiting for the BBC Sherlock to start, feeling a bit skeptical of this modern day Sherlock Holmes with all of todays tech, but Martin Freeman played a great Watson to Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes. Yes my avatar is from the Reichenbach fall scene from the jeremy Brett series.

Hi all, I dont remember not being a fan of Sherlock Holmes, always enjoyed mysteries and whodonits. I enjoy the films, the tv series and the short stories and novels of ACD. My favourite Series / Sherlock is Granada,s Jeremy Brett. Ive had a good look around the forum and pleased to be here.
