Well...I'm just creating an IOU theory because other people have. I would blame the Iodine, Oxygen, Uranium theory. I agree that it probably just means I Owe You, but I'm bored

It is the curse of our fandom.

It also occurs to me that all letters can be rendered in Morse Code.  Dots and dashes.  That's a binary code.  If the dashes are 0s and the dots are 1s, you have a bit of binary computer code that you really cannot get from either Bach Partita.

Moriarty supposedly left the code at Sherlock's apartment.  John asked if Moriarty wrote anything down.  Sherlock said "no."  But he did.  He "wrote down" "IOU" on an apple.

Wow the Morse Code is interesting...I'll look it up, unless someone does it before me ;)

That was puzzling me as well. I was like "He didn't write anything down?!?! Sherlock! Are you ok? OF COURSE HE WROTE SOMETHING DOWN!!! THE APPLE!!!

Ok, the Morse Code. Let's just say that ° is dot, and - is dash.

IOU = °° --- °°-

If ° = 0, and - = 1, then:

IOU = °° --- °°- = 00 111 001

That's a little short, so lets add some of the numbers that we figured out earlier (this is going to make it VERY complicated, but simple is boring ^_^) :

IOU 675 = °° --- °°- -°°°° --°°° °°°°° = 00 111 001 10000 11000 00000

IOU 9078 = °° --- °°- ----° ----- --°°° ---°° = 00 111 001 11110 11111 11000 11100

This is rather fun. I should learn Morse Code off by heart. It's going to be useful, anyway.

IOU 9087 = °° --- °°- ----° ----- ---°° --°°° = 00 111 001 11110 11111 11100 11000

So...if anyone wants to try out anything with that...

The U.M.Q.R.A. 001 11 1101 010 01 Even though we know it's not related. I just quite like doing this...it's fun and I won't be bored in lessons next year! :)

Wow my avatar looks weird...I think I might change it.

Added: Something went terribly wrong with the quote...

I was just going to say, I like your avatar!

Added:  You mean that "/> />/>" business?  The current rev of the editor does that sometimes.  (It may help to wait till it's fully loaded before using it, but then again I'm not certain.)  It also likes to save room by removing one's carefully-allocated "extra" spaces.

Yes, I meant that. I understand now. So like your Morse Code spaces dissapearing and it all becoming one long string of nonsense? Honestly, "save room"...

This editor can sometimes be almost as user-paternalistic as Microsoft Word.

The only way I've found so far to keep extra spaces from disappearing is to put something into them, such as . . . . . . .

You have three options:

1.  You could keep on discussing Morse / Binary in this thread (it fits the title just as well as the typewriter theory does)

2.  You could start a new thread just for Morse / Binary discussion

3.  I could split off the relevant posts from this thread to form a new thread.

Seems to me that any of the above would work -- the choice is up to you.

Thanks!

Ok, I'll just randomly translate "I am Sherlocked"

Uh oh...I can't do those circle things on the iPad. I'll use • instead.

I am Sherlocked = •• •- -- ••• •••• • •-• •-•• --- -•-• -•- • -•• = 00 10 11 000 0000 0 010 0100 111 1010 101 0 100

This summer holiday will probably not be a boring one!
