Happy Independence Day to all of our American friends, visitors and members alike.

What have you got planned and how are you celebrating the day?

:D

Thank you, Tim!

My husband and I actually attended a fireworks display on Saturday evening. (A lot of the big professional ones are held early, usually over the preceding weekend, so people can have the actual 4th free for their own parties and home fireworks.) Today, we're just staying in where it's air conditioned! (The weather has been unusually hot & dry this summer, with temps in the 90's most days.)

So you stole our summer! :lol2: We want it back!

(We've had the wettest and coolest June on record over here!)

You'd be welcome to it!

It's been so dry that some of the native wildflowers in our meadow look like they're dying (and I actually ran a hose out there to save our favorite ironweed plant). The zoysia grass (famous for its drought resistance) in my mother's yard is dead-brown.

But I will say that the tomatoes are doing well (of course, I water them deeply once a week). For, I believe, the first time in my life, I've actually picked a tomato in early July -- it isn't fully ripe, but it'll finish just fine in the kitchen, and I wanted to protect it from the thirsty critters. (They're welcome to the birdbath!) In the interest of honesty, I will add that I did not actually get around to planting my tomatoes much earlier than usual. The ripest ones are from two beautiful volunteers that came up all by themselves, from seeds in last year's compost. I hope they taste as good as they look -- though I don't think I've ever tasted a home-grown tomato that I didn't like!

(... or pop or coke or tonic, depending on what parts of the country we're all from)

Thanks, Ideduce!

I've read that it took a bit of persuading ... :D

Not in London, as expected, but Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Glad to hear that you've finally been able to return from exile, at least!
