Which male characters turn you on the most?
Mollock replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Characters
Wait until he runs them over you ... ewww! :D Welcome to the forum, Lemon, glad to have you aboard. :welcome; Ohh... That would be dreadful. Welcome as well Lemon! Hope you love it here! -
I was fan girling in the class the entire time. Couldn't shut up. I second your post totally. But in season 4, I would love it if they could shed some light on his background. The "caring is not an advantage" has been drilled in him since childhood, I believe and I think it has had its impact on Sherlock's mental state. Sometimes in the show you see flashes( more than flashes actually) of him caring, but as soon as he realizes what he's doing he suppresses those emotions and goes to back to being his normal self. it drives me nuts to no end. Mycroft as you mentioned is smarter than him, and I think it's a natural human instinct to emulate what your older siblings do. I guess that's probably why he acts the way he does, because he doesn't want Mycroft to think of him as a person who gets too involved in emotions, thus making him look weak in his eyes. That's probably the last thing Sherlock wants.

That is very very true. I'd go so far as saying that this statement defines him. I swear to god these Holmes brothers are a complex species to analyze and talk about. There's so much we can say about them, but at the end we are left with more questions than answers about these two, in particular Mycroft. -
Today in my literature class we had an interesting discussion on the character of Sherlock Holmes as seen on BBC's adaption of the original character. His past seems to have been an unexplored territory in the show. All sorts of theories came up as to why Sherlock is the way he is. Some thought he was just born that way, others thought his line of work required him to adopt that type of persona, and many more. I am not trying to hijack this thread, but I am just curious to know what you guys think as avid fans and readers of the of the show and the books.

That's an interesting question. I think Mycroft cares too much, more than Sherlock even. But he's too good at concealing it. Both brothers are. But beneath that calm and collected exterior, I think he's just a normal person who is filled with insecurities of his own. I think deep down he's always concerned for Sherlock. Even when he is taking a dig at Sherlock, it's his way of expressing his concern for him. Mycroft never lets anyone see him with his vulnerabilities, because he knows you can always get hurt. Mycroft reminds me of a coconut. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside. -
I know. At first I had the same reaction as you. Too much for someone like Molly. When I watched that scene for the first time, my jaw dropped open. But then I thought about it for days on end. I think it was an important scene to show how far Molly and Sherlock had come. From series 1 to series 3 huge, huge transformation in Molly's character, as well in Sherlock's. He was more human in series 3. Initially he couldn't let her leave the room without insulting her, but then he lets her do something like this. I can't help but feel that there was reason behind this scene. It just didn't happen, I think Moftiss have something major up their sleeves regarding these 2. Of course I might be wrong.

I know what I am about to say is very very very ridiculous. But It actually brings tears to my eyes sometimes because Sherlolly will never happen. I don't know why, it's very stupid of me, but it does. Hopeless romantic I guess.

I found this quote from a different forum, that someone posted. Then it got me thinking when Moffat said in an interview that Sherlock adores Molly. Of course anything the writers say is very open ended. Just thought I would post it. "When you feel like you adore someone, it's saying that you look up to them and have a lot of affection for them, and you want to do things that will make them happy because making them happy makes you feel good". Could that apply to Sherlock and Molly?

Maybe Mrs. Hudson. Sherlock loves and respects her too much to fight back. And maybe Mary, for similar reasons.True true. But it was Molly who did. I have always thought of her as a strong woman, quiet but strong. I was truly surprised that she slapped him. I mean the way she suddenly grew into a woman who couldn't bear with his antics. I really love that scene, and I love Moffat and Gatiss for writing it the way they did. What I mean to say is, it's true that Mary could and Mrs. Hudson could slap him and he wouldn't stop them either. But the thing is his relationship with these 2 people totally differs from the one he has with Molly. He's always respected them from the beginning. But with Molly it was after the Christmas scene, and TRF that he started to notice her more for who she was. And for her to do something like that is actually incredible. ( sorry if what I am trying to say, isn't really making sense, but I agree with you carol).

The following dozen or so posts were moved here from the Personal Interpretation thread. -- Mod. I can completely sign this, every single word! First of all, I also love the development between Sherlock and Molly - he really slaps him directly into his face: Who elso could and even would do this (without Sherlock's permission, of course B)). By the way, why do you think he lets her do this? Because he thinks he deserves it? Or is he also completetly surprised by Molly's emotions? Or is he that high that he is just too confused to defend? Because - let's be honest - he could have easily stopped Molly, maybe not directly before her first slap, but definately after it! Secondly, I also enjoy seeing Sherlock as a real human being that is capable of feeling anxiety, pain and shock! I know that a lot of people don't like these developments Sherlock goes through in S3, they prefer the extrabrilliant, emotionless and insulting person we get to know in S1 and 2. But I myself am vey glad to see Sherlock emotionally grow! Honestly, all the reasons you mentioned, it could be all of those at the same time. I don't think he necessarily felt he deserved it. His explanation was that he was on a case, so he had to do it. I think after what she did for him, he kind of feels indebted to her, well indebted might not be the right word, but she made it all possible for him. He feels a certain level of respect and even admiration for her that he doesn't feel for anyone else. I honestly believe that he wasn't that high, that he couldn't even stop her. He could have easily stopped her after she slapped him the first time. But she's the woman that matters the most to him, even if at times he fails to express it. He trusted her with his life without even a second of hesitation, and she was willing to sacrifice her career for him. I think he understood that. After TRF I think he held her in high regard, high enough for her to do something like that. He gave her the right to do it, and he doesn't mind it because somewhere he probably feels that she deserves it. Can you honestly see anyone else slapping him, and him just letting it happen? I don't think anyone else could even think of it.

I don't want any of them to die. But I feel that someone will this upcoming season and I can't help but think it will be Molly. Get back to that later. Each and every character literally adds to Sherlocks character. His behaviour around all the characters is very telling of who is. On surface it seems like he treats everyone the same way, but if you really look at him, his relationship with each character is very different. Deep down he loves them all ,although I think him and Donovan will never get along. I will seriously be devastated if Molly dies. I totally ship Sherlock and Molly even though it is very improbable. I cant help but wonder, what Sherlock would do if she actually does die. How would he react to it and deal with her loss. He has come to a point where he does care for her a lot. Would he ever be able to tell her what he feels for her, how much he is actually fond of her despite the fact that he is very incapable of expressing emotions. Other than Molly if anything happens to Mycroft, Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson I don't know what I will do... But yea I will bawl my eyes out. That's for sure.

Do Sherlock and Moriaty Have a Mental Disorder?
Mollock replied to SherLOCKED221's topic in Rumours & Speculation
I agree with you about the truth thing. I have always wondered about the way he always insults people and he isn't even aware he's doing it. For him he's stating the facts that he observes, and they are the truth for him because everything beyond facts, reason or logic is an irrationality. And again it ties in with the fact that emotions don't make sense to him, although he does understand them. If he didn't, he wouldn't have that instinct to protect John, Mrs Hudson, he wouldn't be able to trust anyone if he never understood emotions. But he does . I believe Sherlock just doesn't understand why? -
Hey everyone I am Mollock. The name says it all I guess. His Last Vow is my second favourite episode after Asip. It has everything in it, drama, emotions, thrill, adventure, suspense. It's a very sherlockian episode. I love the slaps scene. It really brought out the familiarity aspect of Sherlock and Molly's relationship. It really demonstrated how comfortable Molly has become around him and how he respects her enough to let her violate his physical space that way. I mean no one slaps Sherlock Holmes. I love love love the mind palace scene and how human Sherlock is during the entire time span the scene proceeds. For the first time we see this man, who is scared and in pain. Personally Sherlock seems so invincible at times to me, that watching him in that mind palace scene really brought a human normal touch to him. It totally succeeds in establishing that Sherlock Holmes can hurt too, he is not this unassailable man. He is just as human as human beings can be. Also the Moriarty gif at the end. I hate it because well Mary. I still love her character but was not expecting that twist. Not much else really. Ooh that's a tough one. Idk what to say about the Riechenbach Fall. I don't really think there is a set explanation. It's really more open ended. Although Sherlock does tell the story, he tells it to Anderson, which kind of makes me think that he's just saying it to satisfy his curiosity so he doesn't bug him. And honestly it doesn't really have a Sherlock feel to it. It's too ordinary for his brilliant brain. I totally agree with Carol about John and Sherlock's relationship. I hope Mary doesn't die, but I know that's what will happen sometime in the show. But if Moffat and Gatiss have some sense, which they have shown they do, they won't kill her off. She offers a very different perspective to John and Sherlock's relationship.

Which male characters turn you on the most?
Mollock replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Characters
Sherlock- I don't even know where to start. His eyes perhaps, get lost in them sometimes. The coat is a huge turn on for me. Just makes him look so powerful and detective-y. His hair, run my fingers through like Louise Brealey said. Although he can be a big jerk unintentionally, and I feel like slapping him for walking over others like they are nothing. He can either make you or he can destroy you completely. Mostly the latter though. But the biggest reason he makes go weak on my knees is, his beautiful brain. The way he can just read you, deduce you, and tell you things about yourself that even you didn't know. He just leaves you baffled. He seriously makes everyone seem so dumb around him, even guys like Moriarty and Magnussen. The way he can turn the tables in just a matter of seconds. He's such a powerful and fresh character. Mycroft- He's so dang mysterious, what's his life story. He's dubbed as the iceman, but is he really the iceman? I swear to god every time he comes on the screen I just... Ughhh get annoyed but that's why I am so fascinated by him. I sometimes feel like I know nothing about this man except his name. He's so subtle in the way he reveals things about himself and he talks in riddles most of the time. He's one character I believe that can challenge everyone including Sherlock ofcourse, sibling rivalry. John- Well he seems to be the most human out all the characters. He's honestly as complicated as Sherlock and he is keen for adventure just like him. Seriously though what kind of normal person chooses to put themselves into life threatening situations and gets a kick out of it? Well other than Sherlock, and he's far from what we could consider normal. But John is a perfect balance between a good, kind man and a badass. -
Thank you! but I am still really surprised he never stopped her. I mean he could have easily stopped her. He's Sherlock Holmes high or not high. And for Molly to do something like that, I am really excited to see how this would change their relationship dynamic, not for the bad though. Because someone actually slapped him. That was probably the first time in his life someone dared do it, and that too Molly Hooper. The Molly Hooper he never even noticed because she was just too ordinary.
