This is insane, I'm just dying in a corner while my dog gives me the look. You know, the 'you look like you just got hit by a bus.' Look.

But I didn't. 'I got hit by a trailer. And it realllyyy hurt.

Sorry. Ignore my waffling.

Kind of anticlimactic, was it not?

Still, John's new look is great.

Everything goes by so fast that it's almost subliminal.  I had to click play-pause play-pause play-pause in order to catch things.

Here's a link to a Sherlockology post with some nice stills from it.

I cast another vote in favor of John's mustache, but I believe Julia Mae's right, it doesn't last long, maybe one episode.

At any rate, the trailer is indeed the "Something Big" that we were promised on Monday.  Here's what Sherlockology has to say about it:

So, what did you think about the first trailer for Sherlock Series Three?

The teaser, featuring Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, Mark Gatiss, Louise Brealey, Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch runs for 25 seconds but features no actual footage from the third series itself.

It is instead an original creation by director Jason Thomson of Red Bee Media, who has created numerous original promotional trailers for the BBC. That said, it does hint at the major dramatic crux of the start of the third series - the inevitable reunion of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, after Sherlock faked his death at the conclusion of The Reichenbach Fall.

And yes, that is a striking new look for John too, don't you think?

As you may notice, the trailer also carries no airdate for Sherlock Series Three in the UK. While the rough area that Sherlock may be broadcast in will become clearer in the months ahead, the actual definite date cannot be set until the completed episodes have been delivered to the BBC by Hartswood Films, so at the moment any dates you see online continue to be mere speculation.

About #SherlockR3VEALED

We were informed in advance by the BBC of the intent to run a promotional trailer at the conclusion of the repeat airing of The Reichenbach Fall, and so with the blessing of Sherlock producer Sue Vertue devised a simple and mysterious countdown campaign to run across our social media sites. We launched with five pictures from Monday, with the expectation that it would countdown to the number 1 on Friday - instead, the final image revealed the time that The Reichenbach Fall would air at 20:30BST, in a deliberate confounding of those expectations. Still, it's better than waiting an extra day!

The campaign was entirely our own creation, with no involvement with the BBC itself, so what took us by surprise was the gigantic response everyone had to it, particularly the hashtag #SherlockR3VEALED, which ended up taking on a life of its own and (at the time of writing) has now surpassed over 12 million unique viewers worldwide on Twitter alone! That's a lot of Sherlock fans!

We're sorry we couldn't really answer questions during the week (due to various issues of confidentiality) but we hope the brilliant teaser trailer is reward enough for the five days of guessing and speculation everyone has been taking part in using the hashtag. And we've a funny feeling #SherlockR3VEALED may return in some form in the future, so stay tuned!

Uh-HUH.  Well, the big response probably had to do with the impression most if not all were under that they were posting something that was "official."   If I'd known it was just some deal of theirs, I'd have hardly bothered.  As it is, most fans were disappointed, thinking something big was coming, not a 28 second teaser.

As to the 28 seconds themselves, I thought they were fine.   Great images and just hearing the theme again in this context is such a treat.

BC should get a BAFTA just for those three seconds at the end.   And I'm not even kidding a little.

Mark Gattis comfirmed that the footage IS from series three, I can't do quotes because I'm on my phone but Sherlockology said

"Correction August 3: Mark Gatiss has confirmed that the footage featured in the trailer IS from Sherlock Series 3"

So it is actual footage from s3. (Stop confusing us, guys!)

Can't wait for season 3! Yeah, I didn't like the moustache either  It is interesting to note though, that he will not have it by episode 2 at least, as this set photo shows: http://www.spoilertv.co.uk/images/sherlock/Series%203/Set%20Photos/23rd%20April%202013%20-%20Part%202/tumblr_mlpopyAeUx1qdojd4o5_1280.jpg.php

Hey, not my job -- though yes, welcome, Maria34!   :welcome:

We're all allowed to be friendly around here!

We're all supposed to be friendly around here...apart from the occasional argument or two...but then they're supposed to be friendly arguments! Yeah, I just meant that you're normally the one who does it...

I need to remind myself for s4, NOT to watch the trailer unless it's two weeks or less from airing. Otherwise I think I might die. And that wouldn't be good.

I wonder if Sherlock is going to just appear to each of them separately and have an emotional reunion scene with them all. That would be amazing. That would make my decade.

And now I'm asking all these questions. Most important of which is, will he tell the public he's alive again? It would be rather funny if someone in the restaurant recognised him before John saw him.

There is at least one fan story where John is literally the last to know.  It seems fairly certain that Molly already knows, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mycroft does too (as in the Conan Doyle story).
