With all the new members, it's a bit of a challenge to remember who is who.  Distinctive user names and avatars are important, of course.  But other reminders can also be a big help.

Displaying your location is useful in many ways, and it's easy to add to your below-the-avatar display (where mine says "Indiana, USA").  At the top of any forum page, you'll find your user name with a drop-down arrow beside it.  Click on the arrow, then click "My Settings."  Scroll down to Profile Information, and you'll see a box labelled "Location" -- just enter your location (in as much or as little detail as you like), then click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

Many of you have already chosen to reveal your real first names in your introductory posts.  But then while reading your subsequent posts, I find myself trying to recall, "Now is this Sue?  Or Mary?  Or -- ?"  You can very easily have your name (and/or a favorite quote, etc.) displayed automatically below each of your posts (where mine say "Carol").  As above, click "My Settings" in the drop-down display.  Then in the left margin, click "Signature."  You'll get an Edit Signature box (very similar to a regular Edit box).  Just type in whatever you'd like displayed.  (You may want to play a bit with fonts, color, and size.)  Then click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

And if you'd like to get a little fancier, see the Signature Banners thread.

Right, Beverly Jean!  (I remember your post in Stories Behind Your User Names and Avatar Pictures.   :D  )

Anyhow, you can put "Bev" as your signature, just above where you now have "Awaiting the Reunion" -- or perhaps in place of it, at this point.

We've just gotten another batch of new members from assorted places, so I thought I'd bring this thread back up.

It's often helpful for people to know where you're from when replying to your posts -- and if your location is right there below your avatar picture, they won't have to ask.  If you'd prefer not to disclose your location, that's perfectly fine of course.  But if you've already told us where you are anyhow, or if you don't mind us knowing, please consider adding it to your profile.  (And maybe add your real first name to your signature, while you're at it.)

Thanks!  :D
