Which actors would make a good John Watson?

Well, we've had the Sherlock Holmes version, so we can't let the good doctor feel left out!

Same rules apply - alive or dead, and at any point in their personal time line.

 

 

For some reason I can't get the thought of Edward Fox (when he was younger) out of my head.

 

 

Mind you, my head is also insisting that Christopher Lee would make a brilliant Moriarty.

As I've mentioned before, my very first knowledge of Sherlock was when my husband and I coincidentally arrived at a friend's house just as "A Study in Pink" was beginning on PBS. During the early scene where Mike Stamford shows up, the friend commented that the actor playing John Watson looked familiar, paused, then asked, "Isn't that the same fellow who played Arthur Weasley?"  Even though I had no idea then who the actor playing Watson actually was, I didn't see much resemblance (and still don't).

Weird coincidence that you're proposing Mark Williams to play Watson!

I just felt that he conveys in his performances many of the qualities a good Watson should have, Loyalty, dependability stoicism.
