Hello, Admins. I re-read a post I'd made before lunch, realized it was just a lot of blather, and decided to delete it -- but couldn't find any way of doing that.

All that I see in the Help files is this: "Next to the reply and multiquote buttons you may also see "comment_edit.png Edit" and "comment_delete.png Delete" buttons for your own posts. If so, you can use these buttons to edit or delete your posts. Note that these options may not be available after a certain amount of time." While I do indeed see an "Edit" button on each of my posts, I haven't yet found any "Delete" button.

I tried editing the post, thinking there might be a "delete" option somewhere on that page, but didn't see one. I even tried completely gutting the post, in hopes that the editor would then offer to delete it for me, but all it actually did was scold me for having nothing in my post. What I finally did was change the post to an innocuous remark.

Please let me know if I'm overlooking a more satisfactory option. Thanks!

User deleting of posts is currently disabled on the forum. I have however enabled the ability for users to hide their posts from view, upon which they can request that a Mod delete the post.

We haven't enabled deleting of posts/topics because if we were ever to get problem users, that would enable them to troll the forums with near impunity and delete everything before a mod could catch up to them.

Caveat: Once a post or topic is hidden only Mods/Admins can reinstate it!

Also, hiding topics which have already received replies is discouraged.

I see your point, Tim. And I see there's a new button, down there next to the Edit button.

This raises a new question: Does hiding a post a post affect the sequence numbers (e.g., if Post #3 is hidden, does the former Post #4 become the new #3). If so, referring to posts by their sequence number could become confusing. Or does hiding a post create a gap in the visible sequence numbers?

Thanks!

The post numbers resequence themselves once the post has been hidden.

You can always reference posts using the quote and multiquote buttons. (For multiquote you need to select all posts you want to quote using the checkboxes at the top right of each post)

After nearly hitting the new "Hide" button when I meant "Edit", I'm wondering whether it's possible to put "Hide" somewhere else, such as well to the left of the "Report" button? (Just hoping this isn't hard-wired into the forum software!)

I'm only thinking of your welfare, actually, because moving the button will save you the bother of unHiding the posts that I'll otherwise accidentally Hide while trying to Edit them.

:angel1:

Thanks!

I'm sure we can have a look at that at some point. Possibly after the next software update, just in case it's one of those things that need to be re-applied after an update :D

is it possible to move a topic? I put one in the wrong place.

If you let us know which one, and where it should be, any of the mods/admins can move it for you :)
