I've mentioned a few times that we were planning to visit the UK in June, visiting my husband's family and coincidentally hoping to catch some of the location filming for Series 3. Today I read that Martin Freeman is leaving for New Zealand (to finish filming The Hobbit) at the end of May, and I assume that means most (if not all) of the Sherlock location work will have been completed by then. Hubby and I were joking about rescheduling our trip -- ha-ha! -- until he found that airfares seem to be considerably cheaper in May. His family hasn't planned anything specific, so what the heck, at this point it looks like we'll be there for most of May.

We expect to spend something like two weeks in London, almost certainly a few days in northern Wales, probably a day or two in Liverpool, perhaps some time around Weymouth, and day trips are always a possibility. We haven't set any particular dates for anything yet.

I'd enjoy getting together with you folks while we're there. The only specific thing I can think of would be brunch at Speedy's. (I believe they're a breakfast-and-lunch-only place, so mid-morning would presumably be their main slack period.) Has anyone eaten there? What's the food like?

Any other get-together ideas? Or tips for finding out when / where they're filming? Or any other suggestions?

You might be in Liverpool? I could give you a local insight...

I do have holiday planned in Scotland in May and don't know exactly when you might be there so schedules might not be compatible, but it would be nice to meet up. Holiday in Scotland also makes trip to London fairly unlikely. :(

Nice! I'm pretty sure something could be arranged, Bristol is not too far away from London, and it's always nice to have an excuse to visit London :-) let us know when you have firm dates, and we'll see what we can arrange!

Hey, terrific! We can all compare schedules and come up with something workable.

Banshee, we're pretty flexible right now, so if you know of any dates that would be better / worse for you, please let me know.

Aely, when will you be in Liverpool? (You can PM me if you don't care to post that information.) Unless you'll be gone the entire month, we can work around your holiday. Also, do you have any idea what (other) days you'll have off from work? Right now, it looks like my husband's brother will be coming with us, in which case we will definitely be spending some time in Liverpool -- and I'll be at loose ends while the guys are doing their Beatles pilgrimage.

It'd sure be nice to see some of you other Americans over there, too!

Scotland trip is 17th, 18th and 19th May, but may be a day either side of that too. Apart from that I'll be in Liverpool for the rest of the month, though I have friends trying to persuade me to Milton Keynes for a collectormania event the following week (for Gillian Anderson, I'm considering it).

If the guys are doing a Beatles pilgrimage you need to visit me as George Harrison used to live in my house.

Zowie! D'you have any idea when Harrison lived there?

We should be able to work around your plans pretty easily. I'll PM you fairly soon, and we can start working things out. Thanks for the info!

I'm starting to seriously look into this since air fare at this time is so much cheaper in May. I'll see what happens in the next few weeks.

Hey, that'd be cool!

Yeah, the hotels are cheaper, too, I believe. But bear in mind that the further ahead you book things, the better the price is likely to be, and May is getting fairly close now, so you probably shouldn't wait too long to decide. And be sure to check for online sales.

OK, we finally made our plane and hotel reservations (my husband's brother decided not to come after all, so the logistics are simpler now). We'll arrive at Heathrow the morning of Thursday May 2nd and take the train to northern Wales. We'll do day trips in that area (including Liverpool), then take the train back to London sometime on Wednesday the 8th. We'll be there (give or take a few day trips) till the evening of Tuesday the 21st, then we'll spend the night near Heathrow in preparation for our morning flight back to the US.

I realize that very few of you actually live in London, but would enjoy meeting as many of you as possible while we're in the UK.

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost two months since we made our reservations.  We'll be arriving at Heathrow in about a week and a half!

No huge rush to nail things down, but I'd like to know who's interested in getting together at Speedy's (or elsewhere) -- see above for which dates we'll be where.  And as mentioned previously, we're open to day trips.

Looking forward to meeting some of you!
