  1. Just noticed that the staircase he goes down and crawls back up when he is dying is the same staircase he goes up to see the dead woman wearing pink in "A Study in Pink."
  2. Okay, after Irene sends Sherlock the text saying "I'm hungry, let's have dinner." to let him know that she's still alive, and we hear Sherlock's phone go off, John starts to go after him but Irene holds up her hand and says, "I don't think so. Do you?" What is she referring to?
  3. yeah, not sure what Mycroft was referring to, but the only time we know of Sherlock being in Eastern Europe for "work" was when he was dismantling Moriarty's network, so it has to be a reference to that. MI6 was somehow involved and he with them, but I don't want to see the Sherlock super spy either. Not sure he's cut out for it, but apparently MI6 thought they should offer him a 6-month impossible stint that Mycroft wanted him to turn down. Perhaps MI6 figured Sherlock was the only one for the job, but Mycroft clearly thought it was a death sentence, even for Sherlock. So really, at the end of HLV, for Mycroft to send Sherlock on that mission is really like capital punishment in the secret service way. Just send a guy on a mission that there's no hope of getting out alive.
  4. Yeah, somehow I get the idea that it got swept under the rug, covered up, but there were a lot of special forces witnesses. The death/disappearance of someone like CAM would not go unnoticed, though. I always wonder too just how much MI6 training Sherlock actually has, because that wouldn't seem to be his cuppa entirely. Yet MI6 seems to want him. it took him 2 years to unravel Moriarty's network, but staying in the homeland and getting "high" from solving cases seems to be his milieu. Just rewatched the short "Many Happy Returns" and noticed the newspaper at the end with the CM initials, so perhaps that was a slight wink to what was coming in season 3.
  5. Especially when you compare him to Moriarty who is certifiable. Makes Sherlock look positively normal...almost.
  6. Found an interesting article that makes an excellent case for Sherlock not really being a sociopath. http://io9.com/5933869/stop-calling-sherlock-a-sociopath-thanks-a-psychologist
  7. John would have had to face a bit of legal trouble as well after the shooting of CAM just for being there in the first place. Although it wasn't his idea to trade Mycroft's laptop for Mary's file in the Appledor vaults, he was certainly an accessory to the crime of theft. He also had a gun in his coat, so although he didn't shoot CAM, a case could be made for intent. Obviously, though, Sherlock took the complete fall for everything that happened. John probably got a slap on the wrist. Sherlock has genuine affection for Mary, though not in a romantic way. When his last words after shooting CAM are "Give my love to Mary. Tell her she's free now." Yeah, he really loves her. He has completely forgiven her for the shooting.
  8. Here's what I think are Sherlock's character traits according to what we've been shown: dysfunctional, slightly autistic, probably a touch of aspergers, childish, impatient, possibly bi-polar, drug addict, nicotine habit, some OCD, probably ADHD, genious IQ probably greater than Einstein which puts Mycroft way up off the charts. He's musically gifted, has studied some classical dance - probably to the horror of Mycroft. I suspect that he may have had a hard time focusing his natural abilities and that drugs calmed his mind that didn't know how to shut off. I suspect that the geniousness of Mycroft and Sherlock naturally isolated them from other children. Mycroft did some bullying to Sherlock in their youth as Sherlock tried to live up to something. Sherlock never wanted to disappoint as a child "Mummy and Daddy will be so disappointed..." (Mycroft in Sherlock's mind palace)... I think the two Holmes boys stuck together mostly. Everyone else was too boring and dull. Goldfish. Their mother was a mathematical genious, father claims he was a moron, but somehow I get the feeling he was very intelligent also. Sherlock's creative talents largely are for himself because he would have had to put those aside to devote full time to being a detective where he had to block out all sentiment and focus on facts. But there is pain in his soul that he keeps well guarded. Molly sees it. She sees beyond all his bull. But what created the sociopath label? When we see Sherlock as a young boy, we don't sense it there. I suspect it was a persona he developed as a coping and protecting mechanism. Just rambling.
  9. I don't think Sherlock has remorse for killing CAM, and although I am not condoning his actions, he was between a rock and a hard place - either face the consequences of trying to barter national secrets, which didn't eliminate the threats to his friends, or murder CAM and make sure his friends were safe. I'm sure a lot of people were relieved that CAM was out of the way. So no remorse for shooting him, but he was quick to defend his actions with the "I'm a sociopath" - and a true sociopath has issues being able to experience empathy and true remorse. By this moment in all the episodes, however, his character HAS developed and he shouldn't be leaning on that self description as much. So for him to keep calling himself a sociopath almost is like a crutch when he doesn't want to be accountable for his behavior.
  10. Was thinking last night (dangerous!) about how Molly and Jim dated 3 X, but for whatever reason that Moriarty was trying to get info on Sherlock through her, he missed her crush, which you would think he would not miss. Yet somehow he discounted her as mattering to Sherlock, perhaps because he witnessed Sherlock's disinterest in the lab.
  11. Okay, so when Irene is receiving pictures of a sheet-clad Sherlock on her cell phone and pictures of John and Sherlock in the car, who is feeding her those pictures? Moriarty?
  12. Oh, I think Sherlock knew perfectly well that Molly was in love with him for a long time. At the very latest, he realized it in A Scandal in Belgravia when he made that deduction about her present. Yes, he got the message loud and clear when she gave him the gift but his response of an apology was one of being being a jerk. The kiss on the cheek was part apology and part thank you. So if you take the fact that she has at least written "love" to him on that gift card and apply that knowledge that he has of that moment to every other situation the two of them are in, it colors things a little differently. Why did Anderson's version of Sherlock's fall survival include that big smacker for Molly? Anderson wouldn't have known of anything Molly/Sherlock. Molly's engagement to Tom - a Sherlock stand in - love the way she turn's her engagement ring around when Sherlock is making the deduction at Johns reception, love the way she stabs Tom's hand without looking at him while keeping her eyes focused on Sherlock. Love the way she stands up to Sherlock after he fakes his urine test, and I love the way he takes it from her.
  13. Ah, THIS is why I now only watch with subtitles on - I catch things that even after several viewings that I have missed - like in Sherlock and Molly's tender moment when he thanks her and then congratulates her on her engagement he says, "After all, not all the men you fall for can turn out to be sociopaths." Wow, that puts a different dynamic on it for me because it means he was very aware that she was in love with him all that time. Love it.
  14. I find it so interesting that after Sherlock first puts on his coat again and the next scene he is high up somewhere surveying London - just instantly reminds me of Batman surveying Gotham City.
  15. Wow, some excellent discussion and points made above. Bravo. The fact that there IS this much discussion just shows what great writing is contained in those scripts. The scripts do not have an ounce of fat on them. They are lean and precise.
  16. Yes, but the fact that he said he had done it to Janine implies that he came after her AFTER the office break in. Before that she was a trusted PA. And CAM is using that information to possibly try to induce a pressure point on Sherlock. It does give Sherlock another reason to hate him.
  17. CAM apparently had something on Janine as well, because told John he did the eye flicking thing on her also. He was a bully in the truest sense of the word.
  18. I should also add, that although CAM had an extensive mind palace, the fact that he had files on Mary meant that he saw files/information SOMEWHERE in the first place. So the background on Mary didn't die with CAM. It's just that CAM was the biggest threat to her and lots of others. That's why Sherlock shot him. And seeing Sherlock as a young boy after he shot CAM - do you think that's how Mycroft was seeing him - as little brother in trouble - or how Sherlock was feeling about himself?
  19. And as if to prove CAM's point, Janine sells all sorts of lies about her time with Holmes and his sexual prowess, which captured the headlines of three tabloids.
  20. I agree that he didn't have everything under control. I think he was truly afraid for his life - which is why he went to Molly to ask for help. Together they came up with a deception on how to fake his death. But he was not all right and she knew it, and he admitted it to her - the one person he could trust most of all. Note also in The Empty Hearse that Lestrade says that Molly was the one who identified his body. Yeah, right! LOL I think his emotions in that episode were quite real, everything from being vulnerable to Molly to furious with Richard Brooks, to having tears running down his face while he stood on the edge of St. Barts. Since no one could see his tears, there was no reason to fake them. I think there was true, genuine pain of caring about his friends and that he was having to deceive them.
  21. It was in "ASiB" when Mycroft is meeting with John at Speedy's to break the news that Irene was dead at the hands of the terrorists in Karachi. Sherlock Holmes was supposed to be a champion sword fighter. I think that Sherlock has a sword somewhere in his room....maybe it's shown in the scene where John has to help a drugged Sherlock back to bed....but anyway.....would love to see our Sherlock actually get to use it. There was the sword brandishing at the end of "ASiB" but we don't get to see a lot of it. There's an episode early on, must be the first season, where he brandishes the sword in the apartment. As I have seen all 9 episodes - now multi times - in a very short amount of time, I'm still having trouble remembering which minor things go with which episode, but it's getting better.

  23. No pun intended, but sometimes he is clueless, especially in matters of the heart. However, from Series 1 - episode 1 to Series 3 - episode 3, I see quite a bit of character growth. He has in fact learned to form emotional bonds, even with Irene (whatever that bond is, it is enough for him to put his life in danger to save her at the end). Mycroft sees this as a character flaw in Sherlock - the ability to care - as that ability gets Sherlock into lots of trouble, especially in Series 3. Cant remember which episode Mycroft says that Sherlock wanted to be a pirate when he was younger, but then I got to thinking, he gets to do a little swashbuckling now and then, so he does get a bit of that fantasy come true.
  24. I find it a wonderful contradiction that Sherlock can decipher all types of clues except when Irene is making an advance on him. Very telling that it's going straight over his head when he says, "Why would I want to have dinner if I'm not hungry?"
  25. I am nearly 55, from Los Angeles, and I have only recently discovered SHERLOCK. I don't have TV in my house (only Netflix on the computer). I'm never up on what's what in TV, especially British TV, and I've only also just "discovered" Benedict Cumberbatch (from Star Trek Into Darkness) and decided to check out SHERLOCK to see what else he had done, and I'm completely smitten with that show. I suspect I shall be travelling when Season 4 hits, and so I will have to try to find it somehow. Seems I have to wait another 19 months for new "episodes." Arrghh. Well, gives me time to really work out all the bits from the first 3 seasons. I will say that it is the first series of anything for a looooong time that has so hooked me that it has gotten the creative wheels in my creaky old brain to turn again. And that is a good thing!
