  1. Oh, I would LOVE to be Mycroft (the original), liking my food and my creature comforts, rarely venturing out of my domain, easily beating Sherlock at the deduction game and having a special club catering to my idiosyncrasies to relax after a tough day at the office, playing at being a minor official!
  2. Shouldn't that be 'flibbertygibbet' ? And we are definitely vegetating until the release of Thor Ragnarok and The Current Wars, at least!
  3. After the train wreck that is TFP ( how appropriate of Moriarty to play the conductor! ), I wish they had stopped after S2. S3 tried to patch things up and went overboard with Mary and SoT, not to mention Sherlock Bl#%#% Holmes solving his problem by shooting it in the head, and S4 is, frankly, a Bond wannabe.
  4. Why we had to go through all the Sturm und Drang of TFP to end up with Lestrade declaring that after all Sherlock Holmes is not only a great man but also a good man, thus coming full circle from SiP, shall remain a mystery to me. I particularly disliked the obviously contrived plot devices, not to mention the plot holes : deeply dissatisfying as the possible final episode.
  5. Ladies and gentlemen, although the rosy-hued discussion above is charming, I have a serious question to put to you all: after the beating-up of Sherlock ( more than s bit of a domestic!) Dr Watson is taken away by DI Lestrade for questioning. During that session, he admits to a serving senior POLICE OFFICER that Sherlock actually shot Magnussen, but it was fun! And this admission was made on record, too, automatically necessitating DI Lestrade's commencing proceedings against one Sherlock Holmes for willful homicide, whatever noble motives underlay the act. And all this while in TST a special commission was set up to bury the event for a hundred years without the need of a royal pardon. Seriously, are the creators even talking to each other during script-writing? One reason in HLV that DI Lestrade was kept out of the picture after a point ( Sherlock getting shot) was because in his official capacity he would have had to arrest the consulting detective. One more major co#%+p by Mr Moffat, but why, when it was entirely avoidable?
  6. Meanwhile, over at Sherlockshome.net, the voting for the Sherloscars is in progress. Whoever wants can pop over and vote for their favorite character, favorite villain etc.
  7. Arcadia, that was a fine piece of reasoning, but we shall never be able to fill all the plot holes. I have no idea why they would say that Jim's brother was a station master, except to have Andrew Scott perform his various train noises. In the Final Problem, it is clearly stated that the late Professor Moriarty's brother is Colonel James Moriarty.
  8. My personal favorites have become TIG, Star Trek, Parade's End ( a lot like Downton Abbey), Amazing Grace and Tinker, Tailor. Haven't watched Osage County, The War Horse and Third Star. But I definitely plan to see Ragnarok because I am a Thor fan, and The Current War, because it's such an important bit of late 19th century American history: Edison of the hundred patents, Westinghouse and Tesla: what more could one want? I just hope the script will do all of them justice!
  9. That's interesting! Although the majority of the fans is made up of females, a male perspective helps to clarify matters. And by the way, the TFP actual viewing public was 5.9 million down from 8.1 !
  10. Please remember that Love is Lady Smallwood, who first got Sherlock into the whole HLV mess ( admittedly out of love for her husband), who was quite willing to have Sherlock quietly executed at the end of it, finding Mycroft's solution not a merciful one, such as a quick death, who quite calculatedly tries to guilt-trip Mycroft into having an evening together. Her Love is manipulative and certainly not unconditional. In this indescribable mess of an episode, I would quite like to know HOW Evros knew about Molly as Sherlock's pressure point. Moriarty didn't know of it, we are assured in TEH, by Sherlock himself, in fact Moriarty overlooked her thus helping Sherlock survive the Fall. In his encounter with the Lady in Red they discussed her apparent problems as Faith Smith. Dr Watson had about a couple of sessions with her as the fake therapist, and he himself is not entirely in the know about Molly and Sherlock's complicated relationship. Mycroft was in the know as far as the Lazarus plan was concerned, if we take Sherlock's word for its being the definitive answer, but nothing more. When Sherlock himself plays Irene's song, it has nothing to do with Molly. So, HOW did she know about the little pathologist and her crush on Sherlock? Their one brief glimpse on the doorstep of the psychotherapist's house was enough to do the usual deducing trick of the Holmes tribe, but not enough to fathom sentiment.
  11. Would that be the same writers who showed Sherlock jumping through his schizophrenic sister's hoops in his suit but was actually magically dropped back in Musgrave land in his Belstaff? Evros must have had some pretty serious muscle to help her transport three dead-weights back to the mainland and be considerate enough to wrap her brother in his coat. Wonder if it was done st Sherrinford, or before they dropped Dr Watson down the well, where he's apparently chained down, but then, miracle of miracles, is able to grab the rope Sherlock throws him and get back on dry land. Alice in Wonderland or Through The Looking Glass have a lot to be jealous of TFP!
  12. In another photograph he is his own self, albeit in period costume, so this is apparently an older Edison. For once he will be on the losing side, although the US still suffer from the fallout of Edison protecting his patents against Westinghouse! I shall have to look it up in IMDb: whoever plays Westinghouse will have side whiskers that will put Lestrade's in TAB to shame!
  13. The way things are going, this thread will quickly become the Euros Admiration Society! Really? For a terminally deranged schizoid personality that started as a joke, Sherlock's elder sister seems to be mind-controlling the thread! If they ever do a Special or even S5, I fervently hope that the governor is more resilient to suggestion and Mycroft engages deaf-mutes as her guards! And no more treats! Mrs Hudson was SO right about Mycroft not understanding his own family in TLD!
  14. On the whole, I tend to agree with Janine Adler, Boton, Bedelia and Pamela, and definitely with Surelock about the problems of TFP. In the end, it's not even clear what The f#%#^%g problem is. It was a hugely disappointing, extremely camp and wimpy end to a series that started with such promise as to become a worldwide phenomenon. They couldn't please all fans, so they went for Sophie's Choice and Saw, and some other series, and to h%#% with smashing their fan base into as many splinters as Sherlock left the coffin.
  15. Euros has many characteristics of severe schizophrenia and a schizoid personality, no redeeming features whatsoever and likes to toy with her food... Sorry, meant to say, her brothers! For me, Sherlock did the one impossible thing he talked to her about in TLD by showing Jesus-like powers of forgiveness, seeing as she had caused the death of his childhood friend out of spite and jealousy, a complete social misfit and a dangerous role-model for potential younger viewers, and she was created as a joke, both creators confessed, thereby adding insult to injury in a most antisocial way! Makes one wonder whether it was Mr Moffat or Mr Gatiss who liked pulling wings off flies and legs off spiders more as a child!
  16. Well, we lowly goldfish cannot get over plot holes the size of the Moon's craters, as somebody above said! Sea of Tranquility certainly not, since everyone is in a tizzy about the whole series and particularly the last episode. However we do have both an Anderson and a Benedict on the Moon. There, as in the show, they are far apart. How does one survive a jump from a first floor window without a graze, and how does one splinter a coffin, however makeshift, to smithereens without getting his hands horribly mauled? How can one deflect a child disappearance into a dog? The last one especially was pure drivel, since if it had been an actual child disappearance the Holmes estate would have been swarming with the local constabulary within a day, even quickly enough to save the poor unfortunate boy. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far in the face of 'oh, so clever writers'! Respectfully suggest Mr Gatiss goes to read some children's books, they have tight, interesting plots to intrigue and interest a budding imagination!
  17. This version had better end before it goes completely downhill! What a shambolic mishmash of emotions and Bond mixture! Not to mention the whole Count of Montecristo sequestration and escape of Euros therefrom! A complete waste of several good actors' time in a bad, self-indulgent script! I am glad I didn't fall for a cinema viewing this time, because of the weather in the Channel! I would now be bewailing my money wasted on ticket and travel!
  18. And we shall come full circle this evening, hopefully, answering most of the major questions and getting closure on some others! It's supposed to be a collaboration from the word 'go', so there's no point in blaming Mr Gatiss for TST and lauding Mr Moffat for TLD. The respective directors, on the other hand, have a lot to answer for.
  19. This whole season seems off to me! Sherlock not functioning properly, in both episodes, Dr Watson behaving in mysteriously inexcusable ways, the ghost of Mary in TLD, for Heaven's sakes, trying to get her husband to behave normally. Nope, like Sherlock in TST, if this is an elaborate joke, I don't get it!
  20. This was good old, reliable Mr Moffat territory, with all actors on top form. My only problem was with Mary's ghost popping up everywhere, originally giving Sherlock the case of tackling Culverton Smith to bring Dr Watson back, when throughout the series Sherlock has done nothing but protect and sacrifice for Dr Watson. In this case , he even compromised his good name and his health ( just like in The Dying Detective, ) to bring Dr Watson to his side. I am still not sure about Evros, the East Wind in his life being a deranged elder sister. And apparently Miss Adler is back, even in the form of a text message, although it shows sentiment on his part to have kept her text alert the same even as he switched mobile models. Did he not chide her abou it being found on the losing side, in the first place? However, Dr Watson is progressively getting out of control with his anger management issues. Ever since TEH, he has vented his anger by using his alleged best friend as a punching bag, and this time he went too far, whatever the provocation! I am puzzled as to why Sherlock lets him get away with it and even excuses it!
  21. Ladies, I do hope you meant The Six Thatchers, despite all its many faults! For The Six Napoleons you would have needed to grab the Granada Sherlock DVD of The Return of Sherlock Holmes! What a grand ACD slip of the tongue it was! I admire your patience with where this is going! In Facebook, Ep. 3 got a warning of not under 15 years of age! LOL! More Sherlock/Bond coming our way in a week's time, provided we survive tomorrow with our minds intact
  22. Whoever can read French would benefit from a really well-thought-out essay by rainbowl on Ao3. It was most enlightening!
  23. @Surelock: thanks for pointing out that all creators are more than a bit weird when it comes to their creations: so, effectively, Mr Gatiss behaved in a churlish manner by copying the response of his allegedly favorite crime writer, who also did the same thing in his time: it's a good thing he has tried to humanise Sherlock in this one, because Sir Arthur had no excuse for NOT disregarding one critic's evaluation and instead focusing on writing better stories in the future! In all matters pertaining to artistic criticism, silence is golden! As a matter of fact, Mr Gatiss has been copycatting from other writers, too, in this one: A.J. ( the survivor's initials are those of E.W. Hornung's anti-hero, the cricket-playing master cracksman Arthur Raffles); and Dr Watson's quip during the dog sequence about hiding a tree in a forest comes straight from a Father Brown story by G.K. Chesterton.
  24. In Entertainment Weekly today Mr Moffat explicitly said that Mary is dead, that they had debated whether to kill her off in Ep. 1 or Ep. 3. Their tradecraft is decidedly below par, as scriptwriters, but then it's Sherlock, not Smiley. The girl on the bus seemed to be waiting for a chance to give Dr Watson that slip of paper, kept twisting it in her hands. Also, just E? And the whole nocturnal texting could be with someone else. What jarred is Sherlock's arrogant attitude being slowly eroded by sentiment. We shall see. P.S. @Caya: you have never before seen 'trice' mentioned above, because it should be spelled 'thrice' , that's autocorrect for you )
  25. The AMO thing was discussed between the two brothers, when Sherlock asked Mycroft about his Latin. It was the code name of the operation in Georgia, when the AGRA team was engaged to free the British ambassador, Operation Love, that led to Lady Smallwood being suspected. To whom does Sherlock say 'I love you'? And we were right, all the time, in SherlockedCamper 's Baby thread about Mycroft having known about Mary and having used her services before, not to mention kinder to her by making her run off, not having her killed by a mole! (very LeCarre and Bond-like).
