  2. I love them both. In Elementary, I adore Joan Watson, though I was very sceptical about her at first, and I think she's a perfect foil for JLM's Holmes. I also think the secondary characters of Gregson and Bell work well. I think if Elementary had been aired without BBC Sherlock having been done, it would have blown us all out of the water as the only other 'modern' Holmes with which to compare it wouild have been RDJ's Holmes (and tbh I kind of regard those as steampunk action movies featuring Holmes and Watson). At the end of the day I think BBC Sherlock shows its British roots and Elementary its American ones (despite there being a British actor in the lead role, but no-one would have taken it seriously with an American Holmes). As BC said, there is room for them both (as long as CBS don't tread on the BBCs toes). I saw both versions of Frankenstein when the National Theatre live screenings took place, and both JLM and BC were fantastic. They are both very talented actors and I don't think anyone would dispute that. However... Much as I love Elementary, and JLM's Holmes, I still prefer BBC Sherlock. There are many reasons, but Rupert Graves is a very important one to me!

  8. she's redscharlach on LJ, but she also has her own website. She does brilliant icons, such as this one...
  9. I think you've missed filling in some letters - an 's' and an 'e'.
  10. I used to just post fandom related stuff/fanfic but it devolved into the sharing of memes and general everyday talk - in other words, waffle. My friends list is still active - I checked in today after being on nights and I was up to 'skip 420' before I managed to get back to the last post I read. That was over 4 days... If you want to add me, feel free.

  12. It was one of my friends on livejournal who started off the whole 'Otter' thing in Sherlock fandom...
  13. Livejournal was one of the first social networking / blogging sites - it was started in 1999 - and though it has fallen out of favour in the UK/USA, it's huge in Russia (and is in fact owned by a Russian company now). It has become an important place for expressing dissatisfaction with the Russian regime and of social commentary - there's a fair bit of info about the LGBT issues in Russia come out via livejournal. Historically, it was a place to find fanfic and where there were thousands of fandom communities; not just for sharing the pretty like tumblr does, but for actual talking to people (a bit like the forum in that aspect). I've had a presence on there in one shape or form since 2005 and have made many good friends via livejournal. There are still oodles of Sherlock communities and I do occasionally discover stuff via LJ before the cool kids who only live on tumblr do, often because there are people who have been in fandom a long time who are still there, clinging on. I've had a lot of fun on LJ over the years, including one time we decided to try and break it by getting too many comments on one post - we hit 5000 in less than 5 days (the limit to comments back then) and this was on a personal journal. That sigh you hear is nostalgia.
  14. Wellingtongoose has written some great meta but because it is on livejournal I don't think it's seen as much as it should be (not sure if she has a tumblr account) and with me still using LJ as my fannish platform of choice I feel a fannish responsibility to share the love. I'm also fairly rubbish at writing meta myself so when I find something as fascinating as her meta series, so naturally I want to share with people who will appreciate it.

  18. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. You did ask. Kind of... As to what it is, it's the skeleton upon which most websites were built letting you see pretty stuff without all the lines of code. BB code is kind of a simplified version of HTML.
  19. Hello there, and welcome! Nice to see someone who also has a home on LJ. I'm Aeron Lanart over there and while it is a fandom journal, it is mostly waffle.
