  1. My brain automatically refuse to choose either Sherlock or Watson (strange brain, maybe it can't choose between them but then they are better together). I have a ridiculous soft spot for Lestrade. The writing, and Graves portrayal, has lifted the character out of the bumbling and not-quite competent rut to which he is often relegated and let him shine. How can you not love this Lestrade? I know there are probably plenty of people who don't, especially after the last episode of S2, but I would say he is probably my fave character, even though I adore both Sherlock and Watson - I think Lestrade sneaked under the radar while I wasn't looking!
  2. I adored they idea that 2 fans of ACD - whose work I love and respect - were essentially essentially saying "look, *this* is what Sherlock Holmes is about, the characters and the cases... the rest is just packaging" and they did just what Holmes needed - not just a modern day retelling but bringing it into the harsh light of the present day and proving to lots of other people that the Sherlock Holmes stories aren't just about the setting. When I first saw 'modern day retelling' I thought, that could be interesting. Then I saw who was involved in the writing and I thought that *will* be interesting. I was right. So, initially undecided I think but very quickly warming to the idea.
  3. Is there anyway to individually switch off the like button? It covers a chunk of the text making the posts difficult to read if they are more than a short sentence. I've had a look and can't find a help topic that deals with removing it, just one that tells you how.why to use it. Pardon any typos, I've just realised my firefox spell checker doesn't work with the site and I've become lazy in spotting my own mistakes!
  4. Greetings! Nice to meet you.
  5. Hello there!
  6. Hello there! I watched the Jeremy Brett series quite a lot in the 80s (yes, I am that old) which is probably how sherlock Holmes settled comfortably into the background for me as I've never read the books. It's good to catch them on the telly still. As for location, that's Liverpool, UK.
  7. Hello there!
  8. I brought some biscuits, if anyone wants one. Chocolate hob nob? Ta Mrs H, much appreciated - but can I have a coffee?
  9. Nice to see you over here too.
  10. Ah, so it is BB code then. I wasn't sure - I'll be fine now and thanks for the help!
  11. I'm probably being thick here, but how do I get a link to show up without the code in my sig - so you click on text something like "this is my link" in the sig and it takes you to the relevant place. I tried using the code box and it didn't like me...
  12. Oh I know what you mean about writing Sherlock himself. Luckily, my muse seems to be John Watson - possibly due to a shared background as health professionals - and he's much easier to understand.
  13. Not a longstanding fan of ACD but I'm familiar with Sherlock Holmes from many of its incarnations. I love what The Moff and Mark Gatiss have done with this version, including the inspired casting. I can't help but agree with them that though I think Matt Smith makes a great Doctor, he would not have been right for Watson. Most of all, I love what they've done with Lestrade. Not only have they made him competent and believable as a character, they hit the jackpot by getting the lovely – and versatile – Rupert Graves to play him. Funnily enough, though I loved the first series – and had realised my slash pairing of choice was Watson/Lestrade and not the primary pairing of the show (and my OT3 Holmes/Watson/Lestrade… I always have an OT3) – I didn't really put a toe into the fandom until the broadcast of the second was imminent and started to read around. I've now read almost everything under the Watson/Lestrade tag on AO3, same for my OT3 and am now working on making my way through some of the Holmes/Watson. I've been in a bit of a fanfic writing slump lately but Sherlock seems to have tempted me back into writing more than a few hundred words at a time; I'm on LJ as aeron_lanart, and AO3 and Dreamwidth as a_lanart if you want to look me up (my av is my default in all those places). There are only 2 Sherlock fics right now, but that may change.
  14. *waves* hello!
  15. Well, I for one hope that Sherlock does tempt you to write...
