  1. We've already got a 'toby'. It's Molly's cat. -m0r
  2. The actor Nigel Bruce (Across from Basil Rathbone's Holmes) was seen as the 'definitive' Watson for a great many years and many who came after him were modelled on him. I think the idea of a slightly 'tubby' Watson were derived from his very respected time in the shoes. And as for those who remember - well done! And for those who don't...it's alright, it was on Astrid a lot and you were probably outside playing. -m0r
  3. I'll see your version and raise you a century. Bravestarr (Eyes of the hawk, ears of the wolf....strength of the bear, speed of the puma!) This is one actually worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_1P9pvDLZI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_1P9pvDLZI There rest of the episodes are below. Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five Final part It's got everything from He-Man type artworks to My Little Pony on Steroids (Although I don't think Thirty-Thirty was in this story) -m0r
  4. I had some fun with a guy on IMDb who thought that Sherlock (2010) had stolen the quote from Quinto's Spock of Star Trek (2009). I pointed out your above quote from 'Undiscovered Country' (1991) to him and over the course of two days had him realise that Sherlock was the originator of the phrase. Fun times! -m0r
  5. We don't know how long it was from Moriarty shooting himself to John arriving. In fact the entire episode of 'The Reichenbach Fall' takes place over 2 months and just feels like it is one rushy ADHD injection of action. Sherlock could have swapped clothes and fooled John that way - but I think that's a bit cheap. Sherlock has gone into hiding for a reason, his reputation means nothing to him and so it is either for John, Mrs Hudson and Lestrade's well being or it is to investigate something without the pressure of people knowing he's investigating. There's more afoot and I think that's what will become apparent in series 3. Of course it's all guesswork - but it is fun to speculate. -m0r
  6. What is in the adult access area? I realise it's 18+ stuff...but I can't imagine what that could be. Is it just shipping stories? -m0r
  7. Wow! I've just set it to Gradiance and am loving it! Deviant three is very nice but I'm a softy for lighter backgrounds. Many people won't know about skinning - might add this page into my signature for others to change if they want. This forum has all the cool toys! -m0r
  8. This clip from Mitchell and Webb is quite poignant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp02ubGuTIU -m0r

  9. I'd say The Mentalist just steals stuff from Derren Brown rather than being a 'take' on Sherlock. House takes a lot from Holmes, for example his apartment is 221b Baker Street, New Jersey. Spock, and subsequently Data, from the Star Trek universe were fashioned on a Holmesian model. Dirk Gently sort of plays with a holistic framework in the Sherlock style. Funnily enough Holmes is often referred to as a reworked 'take' on Poe's Dupin . -m0r
  10. Who censors the censors? -m0r
  11. I'd guess that the London Olympics will play pivotal role somehow. Perhaps Sherlock stows away with a Norwegian team or goes undercover in order to investigate a global threat. He's only really done a security guard and a priest with his 'disguises' so far, I expect him to utilise that aspect of his skills further upon his return. -m0r
  12. I enjoyed most of the shows throughout his tenure. One particularly bad one which focuses on Mycroft as the hero stands out like a sore thumb though and spoils what is a masterfully carried Sherlock by Brett. -m0r
  13. Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! Davina, nice to see you here. I think the persona is the same and it's the username which is different I've enjoyed your thoughts upon the episodes you've commented upon - looking forward to you finishing the rest. -m0r
  14. 6/10 from me. Whilst it was a superb set of nods to various Holmesian trivialities and not a bad go at modernising the original tale it felt weak and slightly overstated in its own worth. Missing out the incestuous/married element from the original and being slightly needless in its attempt to have Holmes chase down facts from an MOD computer which pertain to the case...well....meh! I'd watch it again, it's certainly enjoyable enough - just a bit too schoolboy for me, but that doesn't mean it isn't exactly what a schoolboy would enjoy (Which was the age when I first read Sherlock Holmes). -m0r
  15. 5/10 from me. Slightly clichéd, awkward rambling story which misses all the gleam from the two other episodes from the first series. On its plus side it does develop Sherlock and John's relationship well from the beginning and establishes how strong their friendship has become so quickly. I'd rather it had been made with more apt sleuthing skills required and less caricaturing of the criminals in the Fu Manchu style. -m0r
  16. 8/10 - a surprising, and yet well paced opening, interwoven ulterior crimes, character development all round and an emotional ending. -m0r
  17. 9/10 again for a series finally. Again a slew of crimes being investigated which flt like an entire series rolled into one episode. Powerful play from Andrew and Benedict with John and Mycroft playing their supportive roles perfectly. Lots of guesswork going on across the globe as to how it all came together which is a marvellous thing to achieve and brings so many people together. Simply brilliant! -m0r
  18. Tapatalk search engine for me - made finding this forum a joy as I can now keep it touch with the community whilst on the move. Very modern Sherlock of you! -m0r
  19. 9/10 for me. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time and gave a flurry of amazing cases which made the episode feel like an entire series in one sitting. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the cliff hanger ending was to die for. -m0r
  20. I loved the episode and it set up the foundations for what has been an amazing and well received revival of Sherlock Holmes in the 21st Century (100 years before that awful cartoon). I did have to mark it down though purely for the obvious clue which was pushed throughout the show and Sherlock overlooked. I know it's setting the audience up to be prepared for Sherlock's observational and intellectual guile however the cab thing was far too obvious and let the story down a little. Still, I'd not change a peep of it as it serves its purpose well and my 8/10 hopefully shows my respects to that end. -m0r
  21. Thank you aSnowyEvening! I'm the more 'Devil's advocate' than 'burn you' type of Moriarty and hope to be a worthwhile addition to the membership here. Seems like I should update my profile with favourite episodes judging from your profile - I'm right on it! -m0r
  22. Whilst I don't pirate or condone piracy I do think that free distribution can be worthwhile for an artist at the beginning of their game. I also think that 'Intellectual property' is a bad thing when allowed to be 'legally' protected for any longer that is decent and vehemently suggest that Steamboat Willy, Cliff Richard and others with works which are considered intrinsic to common knowledge boil their heads in a decent molar brew of their favourite acid. Artist create and should get paid if their creations are liked. They should also know that once their creation is published or 'put out' they have sacrificed their ownership of it and that fair use sampling of their materials will, and should, occur. I can cite any book in existence using the Harvard referencing method but can't use video or audio samples under the same conditions - no go I'm afraid. With every creation having either tropes, clichés or direct stealing of material as 'inspiration' it gets very murky to determine what is allowed to be used and what is illegal and breaching copyright. When artists die poor and are celebrated after their deaths as geniuses, is that stealing? When a family, or estate, holds onto popular material one hundred years after the author has died, is that stealing? I think if we brought down who can use what and for how long things are 'protected' we would have a world bustling with new and inventive concepts which showed something original, or at least unusual, floating to the surface of explorative humanities - as is it's a lawyers game and there's nothing much worth perusing. -m0r
  23. And whilst this is my fourth post on these boards (Two of which have yet to be approved) I am stuck with the restriction count of 9 posts until I can post freely. Even were the 2 unpublished posts removed from my tally I should be at 8 until the restriction is lifted. I'm sure it's jsut a quirk in the forum software - but thought I'd keep you abreast. -m0r
