Guillermo del Toro is in pre-production for "Crimson Peak," Benedict Cumberbatch has starring role, and it's expected to start filming sometime in early 2014.  But, other than that it's a kind of Gothic  haunted house set in an English manor in the country story, nothing much has been said about it.

Now, Charlie Hunnam gave an interview just posted (http://collider.com/charlie-hunnam-pacific-rim-crisom-peak-interview/) describing his role, and incidentally, Mr. Cumberbatch's:

HUNNAM: I am involved, Crimson Peak.

Exactly, when is it filming?  What do you know about it?

HUNNAM: We’re going to start filming in early spring of next year and it’s kind of a Jane Austen type of haunted house ghost story.  It’s wonderful kind of collaborating with a director.  I was so proud, and pleased, and honored when Guillermo asked me to come and star in another movie right after we finished this one.  I’ve always kind of dreamed of having a long standing collaboration with a filmmaker like that, and god there’s no one – I mean, I hit the lottery with Guillermo.  But it’s funny he kind of saw something in me that I felt like I would be able to do that I don’t think many people would really consider me for, which was really also kind of sweet and made me feel really proud.  He’s a totally different character than I’ve ever played.  He’s a very kind of quiet, shy, thoughtful kind of stoic, taciturn, very learned guy who is madly in love with the female hero, but she just can’t even see him because Benedict Cumberbatch, this larger than life swashbuckling ladies’ man, sh*** all over my love and makes it unrequited.

"Swashbuckling ladies man?"  Our Benny?

Be still my heart.

It's about freakin' time.

Yeah, I can see that! Depending on the script and direction, that role could be either a lot of scenery-chewing fun or else deceptively subtle. Or both.

Title sounds like a damned soap opera, though!

Did anyone else see this?  I did (of course)!!  Hiddleston was very good in it, as was Jessica Chastain.  It's hard to imagine BC in that role after seeing it with Hiddles.  Although, I'm sure he would have done an excellent job.  I just imagine the character would have seemed less boyish with BC in the role.  Hiddles has a boyish quality about him.

Yup, I did see the film when it came out, and recently received it on DVD. I am not the biggest fan of delToros monsters (the ghosts are somewhat ugly in the whole rather beautiful interior of Allerdale Hall, but maybe it was intentionally...only 'Thomas' in the end looked rather nicely and bit of bowie-esque), but the rest of the whole thing is just brilliant. Nothing new and groundbreaking (for people who have watched scary movies for a lifetime already, I kinda grew up with them :skull: ), but a decent scary movie which I enjoy watching. I don't know how Benedict would have fit the role, but maybe he would have made something entirely different then, why not? Though now as you say, it's hard to imagine after Hiddleston...it would be as if someone else now would be trying to play Loki. :P

I love Mia Wasikowska since I first saw her in 'Alice...', and it wasn't the first time she and Tom Hiddleston played in a movie together, I have already seen them in 'Only lovers left alive', very good and 'gothic' cast if you will...but definitely none of Jim Jarmusch's best in my opinion. Love his films, but Jarmusch making vampire movies is a bit like Tim Burton trying to make a regular rom com with Hugh Grant or something.

Jessica Chastain was awesome too, of course. Didn't really know her name before.
