Including links in a post.

I can't ever get links to copy over into my posts.

 

When I use the link icon in the taskbar at the top of the text box nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

You have to first highlight the word(s) you want to turn into links, Lisa.

 

Say, we have the sentence: I love John's blog, and I want to make "John's blog" link to, well, John's blog.

 

a] Open John's blog in a second tab.

 

b] Copy the URL address (http://johnwatsonblog.co.uk/).

 

c] Write the sentence. In this case, type: I love John's blog.

 

d] Mark "John's blog" with your mouse (finger if you're doing this on a smartphone). It should now be highlighted.

 

e] Now click that link icon above (the one that looks like a chain). Paste the URL into the, well URL field (to the right of the window that popped up).

 

f] If all went well, the sentence should now look like this: I love John's blog.

 

g] If not, tell me where things went wrong and I'll try to explain it better.

 

eta: If you're satisfied with just the URL showing up as itself, just copy it to your post. The nifty forum software recognizes what this is all on its own. Same as with videos.

I tried this and when the box comes up to put my URL in I pasted it in, clicked OK and then.....nothing happens. As in nothing at all. I'm just left with the box open. It's like the whole thing freezes. I can't cancel it and when I click on the X at the top right to close the link box I get the message "Some of the options have been changed. Are you sure you want to close the dialogue box?" Then, when I click "OK" - nothing happens again.

This is odd indeed. Which browser are you using, if I may ask, and do you have any addons like script blockers installed? I'm finding myself unable to replicate your problem here, but maybe we can get to the bottom of this yet.

Is your Javascript up to date mangopony? and is javascript enabled in your browser?

Och, this is starting to get annoying! I've updated Java and I've made sure that javascript is enabled as Undead Medic suggested but I still can't get links to work. I can do it at work though strangely... Must be something in the settings of my home computer. Boo!

....But turns out if I use Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer it works just fine! Oh well then! Thanks for your advice guys :-) x
