ADDED: Ooops! I see Sittything went ahead and gave an answer! Well, now you have two to think about! :D

Well, my answers are probably pretty biased.  I'm solidly on shipper ground at this point.  It's all over my stupid tumblr page.  I look at gifs and stills and think... THIS MEANS SOMETHING!!!    I'm ridiculous, but I've decided to own it.  lol

I'll let you in on something, Janine - uh, Sittything ... I think Sherlock was trying to get something going with Molly too, in TEH. I'm not sure what, but something. But I'm aware that's debatable, so I left it out. But he was definitely flirting with her at Shilcott's! (Whether he knew it or not.)

I can't help myself (it's the weekend!!!!) -- I have to add my two bits to this...

Thanks, T.o.b.y and Arcadia! I was just going to do the same thing, but you saved me the trouble. Except for --

  • How come the emergency service did not provide the police with the information that there were two different callers? (two different phones!)

5.) Perhaps Mary called from Magnussen's phone?

She did, didn't she? She picks up his phone from the floor, I'm almost certain. So the police would have questioned CAM, and he lied.

Sorry, but you may have made it three phones!  The only call we actually saw was John's -- presumably using John's phone.  Then Sherlock's mental reconstruction of the scene showed a] Mary making a call on a phone and b] CAM messing around with something on the floor (which may have been a phone -- and if so, possibly the same one Mary supposedly used, which could have been his -- or hers, I suppose -- and upon which he may have placed a call to the emergency services).

On the original thread (and thanks for bringing this discussion over here, T.o.b.y), I suggested this interpretation (which should also work for three phones):

How come the emergency service did not provide the police with the information that there were two different callers? (two different phones!)

I would imagine that happens a lot in big cities -- there's an accident or whatever, and several people witness it, and they all have cell phones these days. Maybe that detail was indeed in their report to the police, but no one considered it noteworthy.

Just checked ... she definitely picked up the phone on the floor and dialed. It's the same phone which CAM appeared to be trying to grab earlier, so it's logical to assume it's his ... but you're right, this was all in Sherlock's retelling of the scene. So if Sherlock's right, CAM was knocked out when Mary made the call, but he could have called again when he came to. Or Sherlock's wrong, and Mary never made the call, and CAM either did or didn't (he doesn't seem like the type that would, to  me.) Either way we have at most two phones in use, unless Janine or the guard also called when they came to.

I agree, however it happened, it's not necessarily evidence of anything. I think. Not in Sherlock world, anyway!

By the way, having just watched that part again too (because I was there and I love it so) -- I still think the OR also was in Sherlock's mind. The way it's filmed, the behaviour of the doctors, the lighting ... none of it's realistic. Mind palace. Or not. :p

And ... I just used the British spelling for behavior, didn't I? This show is ruining me .............

Yes you did :)  My spell check thought it was wring until I added it.  I know someone where I was surprised not to find a single word that had British/American spelling options in his thank you's on his newest CD.  The last several had British spelling of a word or 2 which made me think that either his wife wrote them (she learned British English in South Africa growing up) either from dictation or typed up his writing, or she influenced his spelling in their 11+ years of marriage.

Will have to re-watch everything after the shot to check out the OR scene.  What I recall of it, I can see how a mind palace sequence could be possible.

Interesting, this is something I had never considered!  I'll have to rewatch!  Though, I've always thought the scene was really odd and seemed rather unrealistic.

Just because CAM was grabbing at the phone doesn't mean it was his -- Mary might have dropped her phone at some point, or put it there on purpose for some reason.  So Mary may have called -- but that's Sherlock's conjecture (he would have been out cold by then).  And if she did phone, it could have been on a phone that she pulled out of her pocket, or on CAM's (if the one on the floor was indeed his) -- or even on Sherlock's phone for all we know.  And CAM certainly could have phoned (on his own phone, or on Mary's if she left it behind) after she left but before John arrived.  And we actually saw John phone.  So that could be anywhere between one call (from one phone) and three calls (from two or three phones).

I occasionally find myself saying (without meaning to) things like "I've not seen it" (instead of "I haven't seen it"). It's insidious, I tell you!

Well, it's got a lot of slo-mo and other effects, so call it Mind Palace or imagination or simply how Sherlock's thinking of it -- but we're not seeing those scenes ourselves, we're seeing them inside Sherlock's head. And some of it isn't what he actually saw either, it's his conjecture, because he was out cold at the time.

I would argue about the phone some more but I can't think of any new points. :P
