We are watching a new interpretation of a worldwide spectacular success the first time round. Both creators have admitted that they are Sherock Holmes geeks whose fan fiction has generated fan fiction of its own, made the names of its characters household names and produced a lot of profit and goodwill, even in China, where the British are not exactly on a sure footing, what with Lord Elgin destroying the Summer Palace, the Boxer revolt and the Hong Kong hundred year colonisation. All this does not mean that they have poetic licence to commit any sort of sacrilege against their own creation, which seems to be the path taken ever since TRF and which runs like a red thread all down S3!
