  1. Try to find something fun to do that won’t break the bank. While I’m legally married, my hubby and I are separated (non-court order) and don’t do anything together for our anniversary. I try to do something special for it since I forgot about the first one after we separated. (I was devastated the next day when I realized).
  2. I definitely like bananas, but you can have the sweet potato, yams (which many people call sweet potatoes), & red garnets (similar shape but darker than a yam).
  3. When it gets done, you can drag a fork through it and it will string up looking like spaghetti, hence its name.
  4. Sorry, no pumpkin anything for this squash avoider except to occasionally carve one because that’s fun.
  5. Was that progression or actually digression (most conversations I hear that end up on President Trump tend to be digressions).
  6. That’s ok. I used my laptop and tablet.
  7. Yours was the first notification since September 18. Thanks much.
  8. Thesaurus.com will likely be your friend. Maybe snigger?
  9. What type of shoe are we talking about. Trainers, high heels, boots, spiked, leather, open-toed, close-toed, something else?
  10. I could see Mr. Holmes as either for a bit of fun or when he was overly annoying. As for godparents being called aunts & uncles, many times the godparents are a child’s actual aunt and uncle so that is likely. And I second Carol on the close family friends. I know several people who have the title of aunt/ uncle because they work with the child’s parent and are such close friends with that parent that the title got earned. I could see Mrs. Hudson being called grandma or equivalent term by Rosie with the rest of the gang given the title of aunt/uncle as it applies.
  11. I've seen Benedict as the creature twice. I want to see him as Frankenstein. Alas, my budget still does not allow it.
  12. Tim any ideas on this? I tried logging out and logging back in to Tapatalk a few minutes ago with a phone restart in between and still no luck.
  13. In regards to Patrick Melrose:
  14. There'a a radio station I listen to when I'm driving that does tell a joke Tuesday during their afternoon show. The jokes are described as "dad jokes". These are family friendly bad jokes that are likely to be told by a dad. The more horrendous the better. Maybe your pitiful puns will fit in there. Also we do have the terrible puns thread on here somewhere started by Bendydoodle if I'm remembering correctly.
  15. While Europe has many buildings dating back to the middle ages (mainly castles and cathedrals), the actual countries as we remotely know them now date back at most 2 hundred years and some only to the first World War while the ethnic groups have been around since shortly after the Tower of Babel. Ancestry has finally separated out Scandinavia to its individual countries.
  16. Why are you humiliated? Just hop a flight to MN, rent a car and drive about an hour northwest on the Interstate (Unless it's rush hour, then it can easily be 2 hours), follow the exit that has a highway that could resemble a first year uni course number and travel north about 10 minutes (again rush hour can make this longer) and hang a left at the 3rd traffic light followed by a left at the first intersection and go to the end of the road. You will have passed my work getting to the traffic light. I'd be more than willing to make you a mocha. When you leave, it's easier to make a right than a left, but watch out for traffic. It can be heavy at times.
  17. With the old software, I had the basic : ) ; ) but not the bbcode emoties on Tapatalk. With the new software, most show up, some with a slight delay.
  18. You will have to come to the right part of Minnesota to get some. I look mostly like my profile pic spo recognzing me shouldn't be too hard. I made my own hot chocolate last night at work. That was interesting. It managed to do the right amount of hazelnut syrup so it wasn't too strong (I half the amount called for so I get a subtle flavor that doesn't overpower the dark chocolate).
  19. Ancestry has updated my DNA results and still does not have the Western/Central European Jew that despite all of the other ethnicities marrying in to the family, has held out the strongest (name and natural accent). Ancestry is now telling me that I'm 2% Finnish, while still not finding the Jewish blood and still no Italian (my sister somehow thinks we have some distant blood from there beyond an uncle who married one of my mom's aunts).
  20. That's what came out in one of the articles I read about the case. As for the what goes on behind closed doors, religious people (particularly those who think there is only 1 way to heaven and that there is definitely a hell), tend to follow the Bible (or similar monotheistic religious text) as an all or nothing, not a pick and choose as to what is true (correct, fact) and what isn't. Which means they will also believe that the homosexual lifestyle will mean an eternity in hell (a place you really don't want to go ever) unless there is a change in lifestyle choices (with some having the caveat that the good works a person did didn't outweigh the bad works [aka sin]). And as far as being PC is concerned, I never really cared one way or another (I still tend to use mailman over postal carrier or other gender neutral term). There are people who would consider me a homophobe (and intolerant) because I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle and wouldn't hear me out on my stance (jumping to conclusions and showing themselves to be intolerant in that moment and I don't have any fear of that lifestyle). (I don't believe homosexual attraction is wrong, it's what a person does with that attraction where the right or wrong (sin) can happen). Every human is prone to a variety of thoughts that would be considered wrong by both liberal and conservative people if dwelt on that we push aside almost immediately because we generally don't want those types of thoughts invading our minds. I try to follow the Bible (I fail miserably often), and if I hold the position that the Bible is all true/correct/fact (which I do), then dwelling/acting on something that the Bible states is sin would mean that I have sinned and would not be getting to heaven unless I changed my actions and didn't return to whatever that sin was. As far as elected officials go, whenever they explain their reasoning for being for/against some legislation, it had best sound like s/he were not saying anything that sounded like personal opinion even if his/her view aligned with the majority of the constituents that elected the person because there will be backlash regardless of the fact that there would have been backlash no matter which way the person voted. You can't please everyone so don't try to. When I was in uni, I had a professor mention freewill and predestination (foreordination) and how both exist, but God already knows what you're going to choose. He also mentioned that it was something that is very hard to comprehend (finite mind and an infinite God). It's been nearly 20 years and I still don't understand how the 2 mesh, I just know that they do.
  21. What else am I supposed to do since we're on an indeterminable length hiatus? I need to do something besides learn how to make mochas and lattes when I'm not homeschooling johnspec.
  22. I used Ancestry when they had one of their sales so it only cost $69USD instead of the normal $99USD. My dad and some of his siblings talked about doing it and I suggested his Aunt once I realized she was still alive. I haven't heard of her passing yet as my dad would have mentioned something. Since she is in her early 90s, I understand how soon she could go. None of her siblings made it to 90. Many did make 80s. (There were 6 of them plus an older half-sibling from their mom).
  23. I always thought the lording happened in subtle, unobtrusive, secretive manners (think Sherlock making John miss a whole Wednesday only without the sedatives). In other words, Carol is so good at it, that no one realizes she's doing it.
  24. I've done it but need to have it done buy one of my older relatives. I have a great aunt that is apparently still alive out in Seattle, WA. She's the last of her siblings and the person I would like tested to figure out her paternal side. My test missed the European Jew as my Scandinavian and British Isles ancestry collectively are larger even though my Jewish blood might actually be higher than my Irish and Scottish when they are counted separately.
  25. From the research I have done, I find that countries that have established church and state together tend to be leaning more secular and in some cases, the state church has strayed away from the Bible they once held dear.
