You know your "Sherlock" obsession is bad when...
Tunguska replied to Joanhs's topic in BBC Sherlock General Discussion.
To go back to the original topic: I measured bone ash content in an experiment that I'm writing up right now and my mind keeps going "Ash. I know ash...!". Yes, thank you, brain, very helpful, I'll put that in the discussion section. -
Nice longish interview with Martin Freeman about the Eichmann show, acting, and Sherlock fans & their behaviour: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/martin-freeman-interview-the-actor-on-hobbits-cumbermania-and-his-nazihounding-role-in-the-eichmann-show-9983829.html

Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"
Tunguska replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Cast & Crew
Agreed but this was far more distracting than the eating had been, lol! The guy's wife seemed to be dying with embarassment, too. Ahh, exciting times. -
Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"

I loved it, thought it was touching and surprisingly funny. I was distracted for a bit though when a guy apparantly became so upset by somebody eating M&Ms from a squeaky bag that he grabbed the bag and smashed it to the floor, sending the M&Ms flying everywhere O_o they had a bit of an argument afterwards and it was very awkward. My husband became very excited about explaining how the code was cracked exactly and proclaimed Turing a personal hero, 'insofar those exist'. So apart from Crazy!M&Mguy, I think I was in the right company to see this film :D -
I understand what you mean Boton, I'll sometimes hear a phrase that triggers me to think 'oh, that was in Sherlock, too!' only to realise it was actually in Doctor Who.

Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"
Tunguska replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Cast & Crew
My husband just proposed that we go see it tonight. I did not object [emoji14] I'm quite lucky, it shows in 5 minutes walking distance from my house in the original version (but with subtitles). The Netherlands is always great with showing undubbed versions and a good coverage of cinemas showing smaller art house films. -
You see him matching books a few times. A book with vivid green lettering by Ian Banks, and a book called Freak Economics or something. The scene is quite brief. For all we know, the books are already apphabetized by their previous owners. And to be honest, Sherlock never seemed particularly organized to me. His flat is a mess, he flails around crime scenes and runs off on any train of thought that occurs to him. It's a very realistic portrayal, I believe - all the geniuses I know are more or less chaotic in their actions, house keeping, and/or conversations. Too many thoughts and ideas popping up and a mind brilliant enough to keep track of things without organizing them, it seems.

I love how you notice small new things with each rewatch of Sherlock episodes. When Sherlock and John are going through the crates of books, Sherlock keeps putting his matching pairs on a pile on John's desk and John silently keeps moving them to another pile. Just a very recognizable, realistic little scene - the same inevitably happens when my husband and I sort through stuff together.

Agreed! It also ended a bit abruptly but that may have been my phone playing it inaccurately. Hope he does well at the awards. Also, thank you for posting about the Eichmann show - we get BBC 2 here and I will definitely watch!

I'm just hoping he will be wearing a hat during the costume scenes. And a wig thereafter! -

Honestly, I wish I could watch Hearse with the moustache photoshopped off because it's just so distractingly ugly (while Martin Freeman is acting his socks off, all I can stare at is the caterpillar). And now they're doing it again? The world is a cruel place for Johnlovers :( Also, I really really really prefer Benedict with black curls so whip out those wigs please! :D Still very excited it's actually happening, though. -

His hair seems to be shaven to an even shorter crop than it was when he arrived on set by the way :-O -

Oh no! Slick hair on Sherlock and a moustache on John? Will they deny me all eye candy? -

I am much more excited about this than is justified. :S -

To be honest, never having read any of the Tolkien books (well, I gave Fellowship a try but disliked it), I really did not like Bilbo in LotR. I thought he was unpleasantly unhinged and did not feel any sympathy for him. It took me the Hobbit films to realize he is probably the coolest person in Middle Earth - clever, adventurous, kind and with great moral standards. Also, I only just realized how incredibly strong he is. He may have become a bit unhinged by the time of LotR but the ring actually seems to have had very little power over him compared to others - even when compared to other Hobbits. Frodo was losing it after just a few months and don't get me started on Gollum. Bilbo was mostly just distracted and had DemonFace once. It also makes me feel sad. After all that adventure, he gets such a huge burden to carry with him for the rest of his life and he does so quietly and nobody gives him any credit for it.

There are several songs that I somehow associate with Sherlock - because of the atmosphere, lyrics, or for various other reasons. I'm sure I'm not the only one and thought it would be nice to share songs that remind us of the series Sherlock! :D I'll start with a song per episode to give you an idea. I've also copied some of the lyrics to highlight why these songs fit so well for me, even though it's often not a literal fit. A Study in Pink I'll start with a sad one: Coldplay - Amsterdam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7Lmi_uemSc I could have picked many happy songs for this episode because it really is a happy story but I also feel we start off with two very lonely, unhappy men and this song fits that perfectly. (Also, I'm a sucker for sad songs.) Come on, oh my star is fading And I see no chance of release And I know I'm dead on the surface But I am screaming underneath (...) Stood on the edge, tied to the noose And you came along and you cut me loose The Blind Banker The National - Brainy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF3MFwDsc7I Pretty self-explanatory - I think we can all guess who 'Brainy' is here. I've been dragging around from the end of your coat for two weeks You keep changing your fancy, fancy mind every time I decide to let it go I was up all night again, boning up and reading the American dictionary You'll never believe me what I found, think I better follow you around You might need me more than you think you will Come home in the car you love, brainy, brainy, brainy The Great Game Interpol - Evil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C5Eipt8xn0 This would have fit another episode equally well as it's really about a serial killer called (Rose)mary :P But the lyrics about playing games involving murder remind me of this episode. I spent a lifespan with no cellmate The long way back Sandy, why can't we look the other way? You're weightless, to me erotic You need someone to take you there Sandy, why can't we look the other way? Why can't we just play the other game? Why can't we just look the other way? A Scandal in Belgravia The Velvet Underground - Venus in Furs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLQzaLr1enE Because Irene deserves the best dominatrix song ever written. Downy sins of streetlight fancies Chase the costumes she shall wear Ermine furs adorn the imperious Severin, Severin awaits you there The Hounds of Baskerville The Pixies - Where is my mind? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrdpliMfoAM Poor Henry Knight. With your feet on the air and your head on the ground Try this trick and spin it, yeah Your head will collapse But there's nothing in it And you'll ask yourself Where is my mind? The Reichenbach Fall Editors - Open your arms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wKqr5xmcA4 I guess this one is obvious. Look up look up look up there It's a long way down Look up look up look up now It's a long way down You fail you fail to see now What you need the most Making a meal of me now You're the perfect host This lot This lot Has messed you around The Empty Hearse The Boxer Rebellion - Diamonds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKTAXkpGceQ Yeah, sorry, I just really love sad songs - and this reminds me of Sherlock and John and how messed up they were. I'm no good next to Diamonds When I'm too close to start to fade Are you angry with me now Are you angry cause I'm to blame The Sign of Three Dandy Warhols - Bohemian like you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CU3mc0yvRNk A happy song! Just a happy song about friendship (or maybe flirting but I'm going with friendship for this association). Also, Goldfrapp's Crystalline Green reminds me of this episode now, but that's mostly because it was actually in it - it used to be my Doctor Who associated song! 'cause I like you yeah I like you and I'm feeling so bohemian like you Yeah I like you yeah I like you. And I feel whoa ho woo His Last Vow Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1acEVmnVhI It just seems to be written for this episode. I used to be a little boy So old in my shoes And what i choose is my choice What's a boy supposed to do? The killer in me is the killer in you Really looking forward to your suggestions and I hope my associations weren't too crazy! This post became quite a bit longer than I was expecting O_o

The Hobbit/Office one made me chuckle, it was pretty good. The wedding one... not so much. And that antler ring toss seemed to have been as embarassing to be in as it was to watch.

Lol, this is the first time I've noticed but the skull is wearing a christmas hat!

That was very well done!

I really hope it will appear online soon.

Tunguska replied to Joanhs's topic in BBC Sherlock General Discussion.
Oooh, exactly. The coffee machine at work is a fancy digital apparatus and it tells you it's 'deducting' after you've msde your choice. That always gives me private giggles. -
I really hope you will enjoy it. I mean, there are still some battle scenes that felt a bit prolonged bordering ridiculous but mostly, there was more dialogue and less orc clashing than I feared. I have not read the book yet to be honest so I don't know how true they are to that but Bilbo's involvement in the war was very touching and believable I thought - indeed, especially that pre-released scene where he talks to Gandalf about saving the dwarves. Lump in throat! Bilbo's amount of face time was a bit better than I feared after the trailer, too, although it could always have been more if you asked me - even non stop Bilbo scenes would have suited me perfectly so I'm not the best to ask! :P
