  1. Actually that didn't cross my mind. I thought since it's a mystery, there should be a detective that is in line with what we like here, and since you like John, I thought you'd be inspired to use his name.
  2. I hope it was really a misdirect! Yeah, back then we picked up every call and listed our address to the world out there. That was how the terminator found Sarah Connor! To be fair, and this is the right thread. I prefer the terminator than the AI that is rampant now. I used to have freelance projects that helped me pay the bills after the failed business, but the company uses AI now. I don't blame them, but it sucks. It has also invaded writing in a very invasive and bad way. I hope real readers still choose to read work from human writers.
  3. Yes, while I have improved (I think) I don't have the radar to spot mistake naturally. There is one I have made peace with, 'in' my direction, while I thought it made more sense to use 'to' my direction. Most of the time, I just decided to rephrase a confusing sentence or not post at all to save my sanity. But not here, I was shameless and just went with it, subjecting you all to my horrible grammar that drove a certain individual to the wall back then. Yes, I kept the cute sketch but unfortunately I'm not sure if she is okay for me to share it anywhere.
  4. I think we should be careful with J.P, guys. Get a scary dog to help guard your property!
  5. Wait wait wait, what did he say? Do tell!
  6. Thank you so much for holding the fort, Carol! Does anyone know about Arcadia? I miss her! And Toby, SherlockedCamper, Sfmco (if I spell it correctly), Pseudonym were those during my time.
  7. It's a fascinating language actually, and I like it. Preposition drives me nuts as well. A kind hearted beta reader sketched for me the difference between perch on and perch in a tree. I used perch on, before my character is sitting of a branch, like a bird perching on, and it's 'right' when I checked around. Perch in is more like J.P an owl inside a hollow of a tree imho. However, according to her, perch on indicates my character is situated on the very top of the tree, while perch in is more suitable for my intention. She gave me a very cute sketch to explain that. It makes a lot of sense!
  8. I believe I have the soft copy (somewhere) and printed photos (somewhere). I guess we uploaded them for someone who wanted to see it. I haven't seen them in twenty over years, I actually have never seen my wedding party photos. Wedding was an awkward suffering for me I don't really care about it. It's the marriage that matters. Aging should stop at certain age, huh? Dang it!
  9. Yes, the middle one, and yes, Locky is named after Sherlock. I believe I joined in April 2015. Locky was born in May 2015, my friend asked me to adopt him in June/July 2015 (and to name him). At that time, I only had Sherlock in mind! Yes, the middle one.
  10. Best wishes! Is there a detective in there? Is his name... John? Wait, Dabbler is not your real name? There are pros and CONS about using real name. The reality that I still struggle with is putting myself out there, although I still hide behind anonymity. Apparently, the books don't sell themselves! My effort is minimum, as said, I don't have the budget so I don't advertise. I don't join cliques or anything. However, I try to somewhat exist and interact in at least other one social media that is not here so once in a while I can post about my books. Even so, I hardly do that as I don't feel want to clog others' feed with unsolicited book promos. Just like the nature of social media, it can be a cesspool. My experience has been decent, but I have seen dramas and personal attacks. I think it's healthy for the mind to separate it with real life. However, those who there to do so have the benefit of looking more established and professional. Many have 'author portrait' while all I have is my dog with his naked friends or random scenery. Maybe I should use a pen name 'Blabbler the Third.' She loves it And to add another cake on a cake, she hasn't been reading for years but she finished mine in relatively short time (400+ pages). It's my latest, I haven't told her about others, but I'm already very grateful.
  11. Sorry it took me so long to reply to your post, Carol. I hope someday you'll get the book out there and tell us about it. I've taken steps to tell some people in real life about them, and as predicted, they are not readers/not their genre/not their language, but one who used to be my best friend in high school read it and liked it. She was my one and only co-writer. Two of us wrote a story during our last year in high school. We took turn to contribute a few paragraphs/pages each time. It was a hand-written or a few pieces of paper stapled together (and to be added accordingly). We gained some fans along the way who passed the story around and read it in the classroom or during break time. We finished it just before graduation and have been studying apart and didn't get in touch until recently in a group setting. I think she should know and I really wanted to know what she thought, so after multiple considerations (years), I told her. Okay, okay, on topic. Anyone started as adult?
  12. I saw Ripley in February, and for some strange reason, I 'recognized' the boat. Apparently this is the TV series of the movie I saw twenty plus years ago, the one starring Matt Damon and Jude Law, so yes, I knew how the story goes and how it's going to end. It was probably a good thing because I focused more on the details. You are right, it's very beautiful, and Andrew is great. He has become one of my top character actors. I also understand what you said about compacting it because the movie was less than two hour and the essence is there.
  13. IT DOES! You guys are not going to be spared! Above is my dog Locky, he is ten now. This is him and his bestie. No kidding, the brown dog is his best friend and they are always happy to see each other. This is him again breaking into the bathroom and supervising my morning business.
  14. Really hope it works, I found new image hosting website. I have tons, I mean tons of dog pictures.
  15. I thought I saw Mycroft in Incredible 4 Trailer (the one with Pedro Pascal) but I could be wrong, didn't watch the movie.
  16. I have to admire you persistence Carol I have my wedding picture there but I have never look at it and I don't look like that anymore, so I just shrugged it off when they asked for money.
  17. British and American spelling drive me nuts sometimes (most times) because as a non speaker, I'm not familiar about which and which. Is it using double L or single L, S or Z, OU or O again? They say the key is consistency, but that's what we don't have because the spelling changes with my reading source's origin.
  18. The other day I saw a gif of Moriarty in the court room and gasp... I mistook it for a scene in The Great Game! What happened? I used to know every single scene and quote! To think it came from The Reichenbach Fall, the episode that broke me and sent me here in pieces (I thought he was really dead). Is it because I have moved on? No, it's not possible! Carol is still having problem with Photobucket. It must only have been half a year since the series, right? Anyway, I miss you all and I miss the forum where there are more of us bantering. I don't miss the weird time when the series was airing though, it was too scary for me with all the strangers and everyone was posting but no one was reading. Hope you are all well!
  19. My landline died on me a few years ago, even though I paid for it (comes with internet). Didn't realize it until I got a handed down handset that it no longer worked. I downgrade my internet anyway and got it of it altogether. The one in my family's house is still working. I think nothing beats the satisfaction of slamming down the receiver when we are pissed. Pressing a button with a controlled rage while gritting teeth is not healthy.
  20. https://imgur.com/L6WvB50 I am not sure how to embed image anymore. Nothing seems to work. This my dog Locky enjoying his surf today in the beach. Moderator Comment: You need the .jpeg (or whichever it is) part of the link, or embedding won't work. Some browsers tend to swallow that bit.
  21. I hide here so I don't clog more recent threads. I am in a very happy mood now. There are not many people I can share this with and you guys have been the ones who know me better. I guess I'm more comfortable hiding behind the keyboard. I used to work a decent job, but quit right before covid. There were multiple reasons. The problem of working my 'dream job' is the part when it ruins everything. I learned the ugliness of the industry and it didn't sit well with my conscience. It was also heartbreaking to see my dog waiting for me everyday and this was my biggest reason. I tried a small business that enabled me to spend 24/7 with him, but it was just my luck to start and end it with covid, wiping my life savings along the way. Starting that time, I revive my long-life passion for writing. I have finally received some royalty payment for my books. It's puny, probably won't last a few grocery trips, and I had spent much more than that in expenses, and this is the span of three-years work! However, it feels unbelievable that there are people out there who had spent their hard-earned few bucks and used their precious times to read my works. I am very grateful. I haven't admitted to many friends or family about this because for some reasons, it feels too personal. Weird, yes, but I don't feel comfortable because they know me in real life. Anyway, most of them are not readers. For those who read, they don't read English books. You guys also know I struggle forever because it's not my first language, therefore I still hesitate to reveal the books, but I am improving. It's nothing much, it's one of the hardest things I do (working purpose) and it's an emotional roller-coaster. For a few days I feel great, there are countless days when I feel worthless and inadequate. Today, it's great. Just want to share. You are all still my safe place.
  22. Carol, this is like an ex who always lingers and being annoying. I am sorry but I have seen your war with it for years
  23. There are a lot of ways to look into it, but yeah, I am on his side. I still care about people and feel for those who are the victims of war, disease, and injustice. I still worry about my loved ones and the future everyday. However, I'm hopeless about what ordinary people can do because we are basically powerless, pawns. Those with power are mostly greedy and don't blink an eyes about the misery they cause to ordinary people, but sadly, there isn't much we can do. Most are too easily distracted or pitted against each other, have no critical minds, or too narrow-minded to see the bigger pictures. I have no faith that this is ever going to change in my lifetime.
  24. Oh good to know. I knew I would need to dedicate a lot of time so I haven't started, maybe I won't. I am the kind of person who would go sleepless to finish watching a show and it's not good for my timing. I enjoyed it but it doesn't leave much impression after I was done. Apparently there is a lot of things in the background from the moment it was still an unknown work until the messed-up production, to deaths etc surrounding it. Yes. There is a spin-off Yakamoz S-245 with the submarine. Story is still not concluded though.
  25. Humans with below 40ish eyes, maybe? Some images are so blur and unclear there were more than two times when I had to do ten tests. Once I gave up because it was never-ending. I don't think they look at the camera (I hope not!). I am that kind of people who always have tape over the cameras. Judging by the amounts of bots frequenting almost every social media nowadays, I think they are not doing good jobs at separating humans and bots, although I strongly suspect bots are intentional. Just recently FB mentioned they are introducing bots to interact with humans. Not sure why, because they are already out there everywhere, posting propaganda, chatting users up, etc. I am 'quite new' to Twitter, in terms of knowing how it works. There are countless of sexy bots thinking I am sexy, sending dms, following in batch. At first I thought they were genuine 'followers' (hate that term) After a while, I am getting slightly smarter now and know I can't be that sexy.
