The other two that I got from IMDb were: Vinette Robinson who played Donovan. She played a character called Abi Lerner in 2007. Phil Davis who played Jeff the serial killer/taxi driver in ASIP. He played Lucius in 2009. You both did better than I would have done faced with the same question👍

When I bring up my google page a list of news items appears. As you will know by now my knowledge of all things ‘computer’ is minimal so I don’t know if everyone gets this. Quite often there’s a Sherlock or Moftiss-related item and I’m always a little unsure of a) are the links worth posting or has everyone already seen them and b, where to post them? So I set up this thread. I’m happy to be guided by Mods on this🙂 by the way, I typed ‘ a)’ without a problem but when I went to do the same for b (ie b bracket) it comes up as . Why? Well double-dammit! I wasn’t up to date enough in my checks to count Mark Gatiss! And I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for you pesky moderators😀 and so, to recap, we have Mark Gatiss and Wanda Ventham so far. My apparently rather flimsy research gives me three more names. I’ll post the names in around 2-3 hours.

Oops. How did I miss that one? I went through the cast list on IMDb looking at each cv but that one got past me. So that’s one named. I have 4 more.

A quiz question for all you Sherlock fans. Of all the actors that have appeared in more than one episode of Sherlock, how many have appeared in Dr Who? And, of course, can you name them?

I just noticed a few more ‘missing’ posts. They’re on the Solar Pons thread and they are all from Hikari where she has quoted me. Her responses are missing. There’s obviously a technical explaination but it’s all witchcraft to me🙂

Hikari, I just looked at the leaderboard and didn’t understand it. To be honest I understood no part of it.

For me, one of the best new things is the edit function. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been caught out by the hated predictive text so well done Tim👍 I was wondering if there were any features on the 2 Ripper Forums that I post on which would be good on here? Not really, is the answer. Except perhaps for one thing. On those forums each post is numbered and so it’s easy if you want to point something out or refer to a post by saying “it’s post #67 on the ‘So and so’ thread.

I’ll have to revise my original statement to Sherlock Holmes is ‘almost’ everywhere😀 I’m not really a film watcher so I’m useless with modern actors. For example, I’ve heard the name Bradley Cooper but I couldn’t name any of his movies. Older USA movies aren’t too bad because you can often recognise actors that were in Rathbone movies for example. The ripper connection was Heather Graham (From Hell) by the way.

I admit to a resounding defeat on The Hangover. Not even the merest scent of Holmes. I was thinking that maybe there’d be someone who had been in Elementary perhaps but zilch. US film and tv are stonier grounds for Holmes. My crown is dented already😀

Hi Hikari, Just to be clear. In my first ‘FT’ post I knew all of those facts without research except for Ken Campbell’s name and the fact that Ballard Berkeley appeared in 2 episodes of the Cushing series I could only recall one.) But... in my second post I didn’t know any of those facts. I just went through the cast list and brought up a list of what they had done and noted the Holmes connections. I’m not making any claims to omniscience here🙂 That said, I think I’ll have to admit to defeat on that one in terms of what I know👍. I only recognise 3 names from the cast of The Hangover. I see a Jack The Ripper connection but no Holmes. My only excuse is that most Holmes tv and movies involve UK actors. I’ll have a look at some of the actors cv’s to see if any links exist. My hopes are low though. Holmes was an amateur boxer and Mike Tyson was in The Hangover! Nah, I can’t claim that one😀

Not that this is a story that needs to be told but I thought that I’d re-post the one that disappeared during the changeover. It’s in regard to that silly game of linking things to Holmes/Doyle. It’s just an example of how Holmes is pretty much everywhere that you look. i went out for a drink with three friends on Friday night on the occasion of one of my friends 50th birthday. We ended up back at his flat (he lives alone; quite recently divorced.) We ordered Indian food and one of my friends searched through the dvd collection and put on his box set of Fawlty Towers (I assume that most in the States will be familiar with the series?) My friend turned to me and said, through a mouthful of Chicken Madras, “ok smart arse link Fawlty Towers to Sherlock Holmes.” This was what you might call ‘an own goal.’ And so we have: John Cleese (BASIL) played Sherlock Holmes in a spoof movie called The Strange Case Of The End Of Civilisation As We Know It. Connie Booth (POLLY) was also in it. As was Ron Moody who played Holmes on stage and Joss Ackland who played Jephro Rucastle In The Copper Beeches In the Grenada series. Then there was Denholm Elliot who was in it. He played Stapleton in the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore spoof ‘Hound,’ And Dr Mortimer in the Ian Richardson ‘Hound.’ Connie Booth was also in the Richardson ‘Hound’ were she played Laura Lyons. She also played in a TV movie called The Return Of Sherlock Holmes. Prunella Scales (SYBIL) played a Post Mistress in the Cook and Moore ‘Hound’ spoof. Andrew Sachs (MANUEL) played Dr Watson on radio to Clive Merrison’s Holmes. Then, in the episode ‘Anniversary’ there is a couple called Roger and Alice. Roger is played by Ken Campbell (I didn’t know this actors name just his face) and he played James Ryder in the Grenada series The Blue Carbuncle. Alice was played by Una Stubbs ( I don’t think that I need to explain that one on here🙂) Ballard Berkeley (THE MAJOR) appeared in two episodes of the Peter Cushing Holmes TV series. Finally Fawlty Towers was set in Torquay, Devon. Doyle lectured twice at the Torquay Pavillians which are very near to the actual hotel. Sherlock Holmes is eveywhere😀👍

Now, either I’m losing any powers of observation that I might have had or... Tim has just inserted the States in a fiendish, Hitchcockian plan to drive me insane😀 I genuinly would have sworn that your States weren’t there.

Anything new will always have teething problems. Personally, I really like the ‘new’ Forum. Tim has ‘built’ the new house and now he’s running around fixing plugs and re-connecting wires. One thing that I’ve noticed, and it’s a difference and not a problem, is that Carol, Arcadia and Hikari’s ‘locations’ are now listed as USA where they used to have the State name too if I recall correctly.

Thanks for looking into it Arcadia. I know that I’m not going mad then.

Tim, this isn’t a moan but just to let you know because it might be important technically, there are definately posts missing. I’ve been back over the Recently Watched Movies Thread six times. i made a post on Tuesday at 3.25. The next post was by Carol at 5.45 where she quotes from me “Pick a subject and I’ll find a Holmes link somewhere.” The post where she got that quote from isn’t there. Also, where she used my quote, there is no message from her...just the quote. Then there’s a post from me at 8.20pm which is a blank quote from Carol and my “Pick a subject” quote from me but with no actual post. In response to my “Pick a quote..” post Carol suggested Felix The Cat (the post appears later) and Arcadia suggested The Pentagon Papers. Arcadia’s post doesn’t exist. I posted the ‘Pentagon Papers’ links but that post doesn’t exist, but a post containing a correction (mentioning Matt Frewer) does exist. Then yesterday afternoon I posted a lengthy post on the subject of links to Holmes (it was about Fawlty Towers) but that post doesn’t appear. Again Tim I’m only pointing this out in case it’s some kind of glitch that you’re not aware of.

I’ve just looked on the ‘recently watched movies’ thread. One of my post begins ‘I have a friend (well I have more..........then it’s cut off. It was a longish post I think. I only posted it once but it’s repeated later in the thread. Hikari then quotes it (in its truncated form) but her reply isn’t shown. This afternoon I made a long post on the same theme which doesn’t now appear ( I wonder if this is something to do with the fact that I might have posted it as you were moving over to the new layout?
