  1. My husband doesn't watch Sherlock, but I had it on in bed watching it last night on PBS, and he asked without opening his eyes, "Is that Alan Rickman?" And then of course, the one moment he DOES open his eyes to look at the screen is when the eyeball pops up in Sherlock's coffee cup...
  2. "Computer, in the Holmesian style, create a mystery to confound Data with an opponent who has the ability to defeat him...Create an adversary capable of defeating Data." Oh Geordi, never change. And with those two statements launch a subgenre of ST fandom.
  3. I've always liked "The Red-headed League", mainly because it's the first one I ever figured out on my own before Sherlock told us whodunnit.
  4. I loved the little plot tidbits thrown in the scrolling headlines banner: Internet detective Sherlock Holmes falls to his death from roof of London hospital Killer of TV star Connie Prince launches appeal Further protests at Dartmoor research facility over animal If they've peppered the "newscast" with previous episode plot points, I wonder if the others might be a clue to some future episode plot points: Prime Minister travels to Geneva for sustainable energy summit Hundreds of schools closed in Scotland as country experiences severe winds Footballer Ian Farrington announces retirement (I googled Ian Farrington and didn't find him as any sort of football/soccer player) Economic slump continues as unemployment figures rise I'm guessing any ideas should be taken to the speculation thread, eh?
  5. Didn't Sheldon also have that idea in The Big Bang Theory?
  6. Carol, thanks for the welcome! I look forward to being part of the community. BakerStreet Irregular: I had no idea SH was in the Guiness Book of World Records. Makes, sense, though. They're really good stories. Julia Mae: Thanks for the great picture. Nerd is the new sexy!
  7. Truer words were never spoken, at least for some of the native Texans I know. I live in Austin, by way of Missouri and California. I didn't necessarily *want* to move to Texas when we decided to come here 12 years ago, but I LOVE Austin. The food, the music, the technology industry...it's a great town. And I never admin my girls were born in Texas. They were born in Austin. NOT Texas.
  8. Hi fellow forum members! Just wanted to pop in the Intro forum and introduce myself. I'm Becky, and I hail from Austin, TX. I've been enjoying Sherlock for the past several years, having discovered the series just after the second episode aired here in the States. Got my mom hooked too. But then again, we're both Anglophiles with a yen for a good BBC adaptation of classic mysteries. I absolutely ADORE that a book series that's over 100 years old translates so literally to modern-day London. Technology may be lightyears ahead of Doyle's day, but folks are folks. The human condition remains remarkably simliar, and don't even get me started on the correlation of world events in the 1890s vs the 2010s. I'm happy to have found this great board to discuss one of my favorite shows. Here's to watching along and posting my thoughts! Becky
  9. And stubbornness. And the fact that although Doctor Who was off the air, it never quite died. It was kept alive by books, magazines and audio adventures, although the unternet didn't really exist to keep it alive until after the movie in 1996. Actualy no, it did exist, but not that many fans had the wherewithal to access it unless they were serious geeks - getting onto the internet prior to Windows '95 was not pretty and not easy! Firefly lives on in comics, and don't forget, we did get Serenity - an amazing film that by all rights (if you believe TPTB) should never have happened. At least with Sherlock we KNOW we're getting more, even if the waiting drives us nuts in the process. The problem with Firefly now is that there haven't been a lot of new canonical elements out in the past 4-5 years. When's the last time a FF/Serenity comic came out? Browncoat Balls and an odd cast/crew comment thrown out online or in a Comic Con panel can only take you so far. And this is coming from someone who was pretty deeply involved with the fan support for a good five years after Serenity came out. With Sherlock being an adaptaion with a plethora of souce material to draw on, there's already an established fandom to slip right into. Which makes it easier to handle the long wait between series. I've recently started reading the complete Sherlock Holmes again, and it's almost as fresh as it was the first time I read it when I was 10 or 11.
  10. Just completed a rewatch of all six episodes this weekend, and this is the only one I fell asleep watching and didn't necessarily feel like attempting to finish. The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of my favorite Doyle stories, but seeing it in all its gristly glory on-screen just isn't for me. Too many of the characters' neuroses and fears hit a bit too close to home, I suppose. But then again, I've never been a fan of the horror genre (Buffy/Angel excepted, but those shows are more camp anyway). And every time I saw Russell Tovey on screen, all I could think was, "Budgie!"
