Stories Behind Your User Names & Avatar Pictures.
ToniLianne replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Introduce yourself here.
Very true getting that photo was actually quite funny, it took me about 5 minutes to realise we were actually on Baker Street, and then myself and Liselle who was with me spent the entire journey along Baker Street trying to get a clear picture! -
Thanks for the links I've seen at least 8 I'm interested in for next year and could probably make 5 of them! I better start saving now! I was thinking of trying online to find people to go with. I did find one girl I "knew" in Cardiff but she has stalls at these events, and I also found some people from my twitter who maybe I could meet with. I did make quite good friends with one lady who goes to a lot of these events but stupidly didn't stay in touch.

I'm one of those boring people that uses my actual name on forums, because I can't think of anything interesting or original and don't really have a nickname, so yeah my user name is my first and middle name combined. My avatar is a photo I over excited took from a coach window on Baker Street (don't know why I was so excited, it wasn't the first time I had been to Baker Street, but hey Sherlock!) it isn't very clear because the damn coach kept moving but I thought it would be fitting for this particular forum -
Are these all in the UK? I had never even heard of a comic con until a couple of years ago, I never realised there were so many different conventions, especially in the UK! I have heard of a couple of the residential weekender ones like Hallowhedon, which sounds right up my street and I would love to go to one, but its getting time off work, and getting someone to go with, I went Cardiff on my own, which is fine for a day at a comic con/expo and people were friendly enough and happy to talk to me but I'm not sure about going alone for a 2/3 day event and yes they are expensive, I only attended Cardiff on the Sunday, but still spent a small fortune when you take travel and accomodation into account, it's not the nearest one or easiest to get to for me, but Tony Head was there too and I'm a big fan of his and that probably makes me sound like a right fangirl but I knew I would regret it if I didn't go, and I'd been wanting to go to a comic con for ages and I'm so glad I made the effort I had a fantastic time and met Alexander Vlahos and Colin Baker too, I would have like to have met more but I couldn't afford too! A Sherlock convention would be brilliant, I would definitely try and make that one. I think if I did go to anymore this year it would just be the MCM Birmingham one, as that isn't too far I think Birmingham events are the closest to me. It depends on the guests though, I'm not a comic book reader or cosplayer myself, I go for the TV/film side, although it does fall on the weekend of the Doctor Who 50th so I'm tempted to go purely for the atmosphere and costumes. I'm interested in the Wales Comic Con next year myself too as I've seen Mark Addy and another actor from Atlantis, which I'm watching and really enjoying are going to be there, although with it being a new show I guess they'll be doing a few conventions next year.

that sounds amazing!! I attended Cardiff Film and Comic Con earlier in the year, it was the first time I had been to a convention and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was quite overwhelmed by it all and found it very surreal to be in such close proximity to people from TV shows I have watched and I got to meet one of my favourite actors too! Unfortunately there wasn't a Saturday night event at this particular con, which is a shame, but Joss Whedon, wow just that's incredible! Have you been to other conventions or planning anymore Aely? I hope to get to more if not this year then definitely next year, I'm hooked!

I know there are a lot of theories out there and some of them are brilliant but I just really can't see how he did it, like you say we'll have to wait and see! Hopefully it will be something really clever and completely unexpected, I expect nothing less from a show such as this! Ooh is that the name of the first episode? I hadn't seen that yet, I like it

I actually missed this episode when it aired, and only started watching Sherlock because surprisingly my mum who hates every other show I watch, had watched it and loved it and thought it would be my cup of tea so to speak, how right she was! Me being me, I still didn't actually get around to watching "A Study In Pink" until after the second series, when I bought the boxset and eventually watched it. So anyway naturally I thought the episode was brilliant, and as always very cleverly written. I loved the introduction to the characters, in particular to John Watson, as with missing this episode in the first instance I had missed seeing Watson's back story and I quite like knowing the backgrounds of characters for me I think this plays a part in the characters development, and it was interesting to see how John's character changes with Sherlock's influence. I also really enjoyed the plot/case I know that these series are based on the original stories, but having never read them or seen any other adaptations of Sherlock it was completely new for me, and I cannot comment on the accuracy of relevance to the original cases, but I thought it was really well done and like how they have managed to modernise it and probably inspired a whole new generation of Sherlock Holmes fans, like myself.

I have seen odd episodes and series from all of the Doctors, and the films featuring Peter Cushing too courtesy of my dad who is a life long whovian, so even from a young age despite the show seemingly finished I was into Doctor Who long before it was brought back to our screens and one of my favourite Doctors of all time is Tom Baker's portrayal. Of course I have watched all of the new series and Doctors too, which I have enjoyed and I am eagerly anticipating the 50th anniversary show. I am not that familiar with Peter Capaldi as an actor, that is not necessarily a bad thing though, and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the role. I shall reserve judgement until I have seen him in action.

Random question, do I need to have watched or followed Star Trek at all in order to watch and understand and enjoy the films?? I've never seen the series but I've been hearing great things about the films and wouldn't mind giving them a go.

What other TV shows do you watch?
ToniLianne replied to EvigMidnat's topic in Movies & Entertainment
Yes that's the one Carol, I really enjoyed that show and the whole concept, there wasn't really any supernatural type shows aimed at adults around in the UK at that time that I know of. It can't have been to popular though, my friend and I often wonder whether it would fare better if it was made now? I think I may have heard of Star Trek, can't say I've ever really watched it, I never knew it was cancelled though, I always thought it was quite popular and had a large following?? I have a really bad habit of getting into shows several series in, and then just as I'm catching up and really getting into it, they announce that the next series is going to be the last one. -

Favourite Books & Favourite Writers
ToniLianne replied to Undead Medic's topic in Movies & Entertainment
sorry to be obvious but the Harry Potter books by J K Rowling are amongst my favourite reads from child and adulthood and the books I've re-read the most David Eddings The Belgariad and The Mallorean the only fantasy series of books I've ever really got into, I just love the characters. Also another favourite of mine is The Redemption of Athalus by the same author Cassandre Clare, read her books earlier in the year and loved them. also read a lot of books from the following authors.. Jodi Picoult Stephen King Anne Rice L.J.Smith although more from my childhood than recently. I must confess I have never actually read any Sherlock Holmes books but they are on my to be read list. -

I can't remember that much about it, but I loved it and I'm pretty sure my friend and I are the only people that I know of that watched it! -
I opted for Watson, purely for his fashion choices, I do love a good jumper! I also do harbour a bit of a soft spot for John Watson and Martin Freeman too.
