Ever received a gift that is just so *you* that it has made you grin like a loon. I don't just mean things you've wanted for a while or that you love to bits, but things that are really appropriate to who you are or your outlook on life or whatever.

To start the ball rolling, I'll tell you about the one I got for my birthday.

It's a locket (no major biggie, one may think) but this locket is actually an anatomically correct heart! :boing: Fantastic! Like I said, it is just so ME!

And here's one that is very similar (mine is pewter, not sterling silver like this one but is otherwise identical)

An old friend brought me this shirt from Disneyworld once:

In case that's not readable, that's the grumpy dwarf saying, "I'm right, you're wrong, any questions?" I should explain that I was working as a tutor then, and it fit perfectly :).

I love cats, especially black cats. For Christmas my oldest sister gave me a pair of black socks with yellow cat's eyes and paw prints. I call them my "black cat Sherlock socks". Don't ask me why, but I am just so taken with them.

I think a gift that stands out like that for me was a present my friend Hiromi gave to me for my birthday when I lived in Japan.  We were getting ready to go to the port for the umi no hi festival and everyone met over at my apartment.  I was still tying the obi on my yukata when they came in, and gave me birthday presents (a big surprise for me).  Hiromi gave me set with these delicate pink crystal hair pins, a handkerchief and a fan.  I was so in love with them that I wore them all to the festival (it's almost a must to have a fan on you in the hot summer months in Japan).  The funniest part of that festival was when this tiny, little old lady suddenly grabbed Hiromi from behind and started retying her obi saying "No good, no good".  Then she looked at my obi (and I'm a foreigner that did it myself) and she said "Good, good" with a thumbs up.  We all laughed.  That was 10 years ago now, and I still have them in the same box which she gave to me.

You had probably followed the directions on the package!   :D

LOL, kind of, actually XD  Most Japanese wear traditional clothing like kimono or yukata for celebrations or special occasions, so many of the younger generations don't actually know how to wear them properly- so what many do is either pay someone to put it on them, rent the entire outfit and and expert will put it on them, or have a family member who knows how do it.  Since I would never have anyone who could help me put it on, I asked the ladies in the department store to teach me.  A couple of years ago, I dressed my daughter up in her little yukata that a friend had sent and I wore my old one for Halloween.
