Cumberb*****s to change their name

Kind of like "geek" and "nerd," I suppose (becoming more acceptable, I mean).

 

But like those two words, I think "b*tch" is a word that can acceptably be applied only to oneself or to another member of one's in-group.

Since Benedict Cumberbatch was clearly uncomfortable with the word and had trouble saying it, I think it just shows that his female fandom is showing a great deal of empathy and good taste by changing it.

I think, perhaps, it's the modern age. Certain words were counted as offensive like calling someone a b***h a time ago. Today, I don't think a lot of people mind and new words come along. The real meaning of the word 'b***h' is a female dog and I love dogs.

I like Sherlockian, come to think of it.

 

That's a grand old term for sure.  But since it's been used for decades (centuries?) to mean someone who likes Sherlock Holmes in general (and the Conan Doyle stories in particular), it's not really a synonym for Cumberb*tch (which, as I understand it, can refer to any Cumberbatch fan, even one who might not care for BBC Sherlock).

Personally I am glad and hope they change it.  I consider myself a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch but would never self-identify as a "Cumberbitch".  To me it is cringe-worthy.  And the fact that he obviously finds it cringe-worthy should mean something to his fans.  Stop embarrassing the man! 

 

Cumbercollective, Cumbercookie, Cumber People...all good in my book.

just found this thread.  Yesterday I saw part of the Graham Norton show (via youtube) where Benedict & Chris Pine were on.  Graham had them each mention the name of their fan group and went into the audience to see who had traveled from where & which group they were a part of.  Benedict initially referred to his fans as Cumbercollective then went on to say what the actual name was (obviously not wanting to).  Benedict had gone into the audience about 3 times & hugged the ladies that were part of his fan base.  Then Chris had to do the same thing when his next fan came up & made up for not doing that with the first fan or 2 part of the Pine Nuts.  Then Benedict stated that you took one of my b****** and immediately realized what he did & was like oops (& of course everyone was laughing).  I wonder what would have happened if one of those people who had traveled had been in both camps.  I know if I had been at the showing & we were to move it to this year, I would be in both & much prefer the Cumbercollective to Cumberb****.  Of course I could state that I am an old school pine nut.  Chris' dad Robert is also an actor.  I remember watching at least 2 shows he was on while growing up & enjoyed his talent.

Thanks for mentioning Robert Pine, SherlockedCAMPer.  I checked his IMDb page, and find that I've seen him in all sorts of things.  I specifically remember him as Magnum's father, and also as the crooked congressman on an episode of Leverage -- but he sold me so completely on those characters that I never realized they were the same actor.  And I had no idea he was Chris Pine's dad.

I looked it up last year after watching Chris in Bottle Shock & wondered if they were related.  Chris has his dad's mouth, not sure what his mom looks like, but guessing he looks more like her.  Much like Benedict looks a lot like his dad
