Anyone know the source of this book? - Sherlock: Season One & Season Two Script Book

Recommended Posts

I bought this book in the donated section of my local library. Was curious about finding it for Season 3 and 4, tried looking it up, and surprisingly could not find any information whatsoever about this book. The inside contains no publication page or information, nor does it even have an ISBN or barcode. Wondered if anyone had any knowledge about where this book came from.

I can't get that link to load, but I'm on my cellphone right now -- will try on my computer tomorrow.  But I don't recall ever seeing such a book, or even hearing about it.

The closest thing I can think of would be print-outs of transcripts from Ariane Devere's website -- will post a link to that tomorrow, if nobody beats me to it.

Anyhow, welcome to Sherlock Forum, outlaw!  And thanks for posting such an intriguing question.  Looks like we have a mystery to solve!

Looked up the Ariane Devere's transcripts. Does not appear to be the same thing, as theirs has descriptions of movement, expression, and scenery in quotations. My book seems to only have dialogue with a few descriptions here and there in quotations.

Also the photos were an issue on my end, they should be working now!

Welcome, Outlaw.

This looks like one of those self-made books, even if it's made very well. Could be printed by an online service. Or maybe it's a bookbinder's exam piece? I doubt if you find the other piece, even if there is one at all.

If you are interested in the scripts themselves, they were available online. You might look up this thread:

@Carol, Ariane made transcripts from the episodes, the original scripts (final drafts) may vary, even if it's not much in the case of Sherlock.

I always wanted to see the early drafts, but they are not online AFAIK.

Thank you, those photos come right up now.  And thanks for the description of your book's interior.  I think you're right -- or at least if it is a copy of Ariane's transcripts, it's been heavily amended.

The transcripts that I've seen for other TV shows vary quite a lot in the amount of description included -- some don't even mention who says what, just the dialog (possibly done using speech-recognition software) -- so the same could be true of Sherlock transcripts (if there are any others -- but I haven't seen any).

Unfortunately the BBC link in that thread now leads to a "404 Page not found" error.  And the "alternative source" (http://www.zen134237.zen.co.uk/Sherlock/) mentioned later in the same post of that thread is currently timing out for me, though it might be worth checking later, to see if it's recovered.

Unfortunately, I suspect you're right.
