N. Gower St. filming for TSo3 (& TEH)

Recommended Posts

Alex found a 17-minute fan video of that day.  I can't get it to load properly right now, so I'll just post a link to that YouTube page (because I don't know whether I could embed it properly if it's not working for me).

Wonderful!  Thanks so much.  Filmmaking really is a lot of standing around and waiting, isn't it?

From what we saw, it sure is!  The film crew and actors were there for something like three hours, I think, and did maybe four takes each of four brief scenes, for a total screen time of maybe two or three minutes.

Yes, I did say four scenes.  We (like the gal who posted the video) noticed only two of them at the time, but upon viewing "The Sign of Three," we realized we'd seen them film two other scenes (which did not involve either Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman).  I will post more on that next time I'm at the library.

I mentioned a while back that the fake "Rumbelow's" real-estate signs (like we saw being installed over real-life real-estate signs) have appeared on Sherlock ever since the unaired pilot.  We watched the pilot again tonight, and finally noticed where the name came from -- set decorator Joelle Rumbelow.  She apparently hasn't worked on Sherlock since "The Great Game," but her name lives on!

Can anyone identify the dark-haired woman in glasses who's standing in front of [and to our left of Freeman and Cumberbatch]?  She's in a lot of our photos, but we have no idea who she is.

(You can enlarge that photo by clicking on it -- then hit ESC to revert to normal view.)

I believe we finally know who she is -- namely, Susie Liggat, the producer. "Sign" is the only Sherlock episode she's produced so far, but she has more history with Doctor Who.  I've found a few photos of her online -- this one is terribly unflattering, but has the best angle (and the glasses), while this one is a better likeness.

Just ran across a photo of the crowd of fans that day (May 21st), or as many as would fit in one shot (2/3, maybe?), which I found posted here (thanks, Claire!).  If you look toward the right edge of the photo, at the right edge of the dark archway, you'll see in the top row of heads a blue hat and a red hat side-by-side -- that's me and Alex, respectively!

Last night I found a similar photo on the Speedy's website.  This one's from a really good angle not available to fans (since the cafe was being used as Production Central at the time), and shows a bit more of the crowd (plus director of photography Steve Lawes with his back to us at the right):

If you click on the photo to display it at full resolution, you'll be able to see even more detail.

Don't I wish!  But at least we have our pictures on Speedy's website, so we're famous, huh?  :P

Your fifteen minutes of fame. Enjoy it while it lasts!

What fifteen minutes?  Speedy's posted that photo well over a year ago.  We are immortal!  :D
