Russel´s writing was very good - no doubt - but I love all the Moffat-complicated-unpredictable-mindblowing stuff.

Actually I think Moffat is clearly the better Doctor Who writer.

 I guess some people just want the straight-forward storylines that are stretched only over one episode.
They can't handle "not knowing" for a bit, or having their minds messed up but that is exactly what I like - when I don't understand anything and have to process it over a couple of days. :D

What do you think of it?

I loved it.

However weak the story might be (I woudn't say it was bad), all the River - Doctor stuff makes up for that. A lot.
Ahh, there were moments when I just wanted to shout! Like the "Hello, sweetie" bit.

While browsing through Wikipedia, I came across the intriguing possibility that The Doctor may have been inspired by a puppet character on the Canadian version of Howdy Doody. Mr. X traveled through time and space in his Whatsis Box ... which could be just a coincidence ... except that the head of programming for the CBC at that time was Sydney Newman, who later created Dr. Who!

Oh, and the host of that show was Timber Tom, played by James Doohan ... whose occasional standin was played by William Shatner. They later teamed up again on the original Star Trek.
