This one's exceptionally good, imo.

It is.  I wonder if it was one of those that actually started as a photo and was photoshopped to look like a painting.

Oi, don't spoil it for me! Although if it is, it's still very good, because I can't tell. Most digital paintings, I can spot in an instant.

It's just dawned on me ... that's why there's so much of this stuff, isn't it? Because it's mostly digital work. I've been wondering how so many people can be producing so many high end portraits of BC -- most professionals don't do "fan art", and what are the odds that those who do just happen to be BC fans -- but if they're just running paint effects over a photo .... aha. Altho as I said, some of them are so good, I still have to acknowledge their skill.

I'm pretty ambivalent about digital art. On the one hand, I believe in using any tool available to create. On the other hand, I think it's cheating to use a computer to produce something that looks like it was painted with a brush. If they're going to do digital art, why take so much care to make it look like it isn't digital? Why mimic a paint stroke, instead of making the real thing? Why not create effects that are unique to the medium they're being executed in?

But there must be a million acrylics out there that are mimicking, say, watercolors, and I don't necessarily have a problem with those. So I can't be too absolutist about it. But still ... I can't help it. A lot of digital art feels like cheating to me. *sigh*

What strikes me is that it looks like it was based on a photo of Benedict Cumberbatch (i.e., not a photo of him as Sherlock).  At least that's how it looks to me -- but goodness knows he gives Sherlock all sorts of facial expressions!

Whereas it looks utterly Sherlocky to me! Hounds, or maybe HLV. One of those ones where he's wearing the white shirt. And where his collar's turned up so he'll look cool.

Looks very Sherlock to me too, especially S2 or S3.
